Victoria Will Shoots the Stars at Sundance

04:25
What do you do as a portrait photographer when you need to reignite your creative spark? One thing you can do is switch tools. When asked to shoot the stars at the Sundance Film Festival for the fifth year in a row, celebrity photographer Victoria Will did just that. She put down her DSLR and picked up an old Graflex Super D camera, and she replaced the TIFFs and JPGs with beautiful, aluminum tintypes. Last but not least, she added Profoto Pro-8 flashes and Light Shaping Tools to the equation, thereby bringing the century-old tintype technique into the 21st century. Sue Bryce creates her own natural light with the B1

03:30
What sets a professional photographer apart from everyone else is the ability to create the perfect light. Los Angeles-based portrait photographer Sue Bryce has spent decades creating contemporary fashion-inspired portraiture that makes everyday women look like Vanity Fair fashion models. And she built an international reputation using natural light almost exclusively. Recently, though, she has fallen in love with the Profoto B1. “I started seeing studio lights the way I see, use and master natural light. I bounce and zig-zag it the same way I do with natural light. The B1 is extraordinary, and it has the ability to dial down to low, soft light with big modifiers so I can create the exact same daylight I have been working with for the last 27 years. I can shoot at any time of the day and still control the light”.

Richard Walch Puts the Profoto B1 Off-camera Flash to the Test

03:54
We call the new B1 an off-camera flash, because it is not a speedlight and it is not a monolight. It is a new kind of flash that brings a whole new way of shooting. It has TTL, so you get a perfect exposure in a flash. It is battery-powered and cordless, so you can take it with you wherever you go and put it wherever you want. Add to that the power, speed and light shaping possibilities that Profoto lights are known for, and you have an off-camera flash that makes great light easy. Photographer Richard Walch brought a couple of B1 off-camera flashes and two top-ranking BMX bikers with him to a marble quarry in Italy for some serious action shots. Natural light with flash with Adam Angelides

05:14
Sometimes the ambient light is just perfect. But usually it’s not. It’s too bright. It’s too dark. It’s the middle of the day when you want a glowing sunset. That's why we use flash. With flash you’re in full control. If it’s too bright you use it to overpower the sun. If it’s too dark you light up your subject. If it’s the wrong time of day you add an orange color gel and create your own sunset. The trick is to make it look natural. People shouldn’t be able to notice the flash light. They should pay attention to the image, not the technique behind it. In this video, commercial photographer Adam Angelides shows you how. He uses color gels to recreate warm sunlight. He uses a large and deep umbrella as fill light. He uses High Speed Sync to control the ambient light. He uses gels to create a flare. All this in under five minutes. Spice Up Your Lighting with the Profoto WideZoom Reflector

05:06
The Profoto WideZoom Reflector has much in common with the popular Magnum Reflector, but is capable of creating a much wider and strikingly even light spread. For this reason it is often used to create a perfectly even background illumination. But what many forget is that the WideZoom Reflector's light spread can be zoomed from 40° to 80° (by simply sliding the reflector on the lamp head.) This opens up a world of creative possibilities to shape the light. "If you know the properties of your Light Shaping Tools, bend the rules and spice up your lighting," says photographer Andrea Belluso. Watch the video and learn how he did it for this shot. Profoto Off-Camera Flash: How It Works

02:28
Profoto Off-Camera Flash allows you to forget about the flash and focus on the light. Here is how it works: Step 1: Grab your camera. Step 2: Add the remote that fits your camera. If you shoot with Canon, add an Air Remote TTL-C. Doing so will allow you to shoot with TTL. If you shoot with Nikon, add an Air Remote TTL-N. Doing so will also allow you to shoot with TTL. If you shoot with any other camera, add a standard Air Remote. You will not be able shoot with TTL. But you will have wireless remote control. Step 3: Choose Off-Camera Flash. Shoot with the cordless and powerful B1, shoot with the portable B2 on or off camera flash, or shoot with both at once. Step 4: Choose Light Shaping Tool. There are many to choose from. There are four different OCF Softboxes. They create a soft and even light. There is an OCF Grid Kit. It limits the light spread in either 10°, 20° or 30°. There is an OCF Snoot. It creates a hard and direct light. There are OCF Barndoors. Use them to shape the light spread. In total, there are 120 more to choose from. Step 5: Take stunning pictures. Go off-camera. And on to light shaping. Learn more at www.profoto.com/cameraflash Creative Director: Kamis www.kamis.se Animation: Niklas Grinder www.niklasgrinder.com

Profoto Strip RFi Softboxes

01:31
The Strip RFi is often used as a distinct rim light that effectively separates the subject from the background. You can tell how suitable it is for this purpose by just looking at it! The Strip RFi is also favored by product photographers requiring a long and narrow reflection with soft edges. Take a closer look at a car ad or a photo of a wine bottle. It might very well be the Strip RFi you see reflecting in that shiny surface. In addition, the Strip RFi is a great asset when you are shooting in a confined area. It occupies very little space, and its narrow shape allows you to put it right next to a wall to create a soft and even back light.

In Hong Kong-based wedding photographer Chan Kit's case, he brought a B2 Off-Camera Flash, an Umbrella Deep and a Zoom Reflector with him to Tsim Sha Tsui Harbor in Southern Kowloon to light this well-know spot from a new angle. "If you’re a tourist in Hong Kong, chances are good that you will come here to take pictures,” says Kit. “So my idea for this shoot was to use lighting to show this popular location in a new light."
