Never obscure the original shape of the garment. If you misrepresent the product it can lead to customer returns and hurt your brand. If a shirt is too big and needs to be clipped, clip evenly. A shirt for example would need to be clipped behind the collar, in between the shoulders, at the bottom of the back and on the backs of the upper arms. How to Steam and Organize your Garments before a Photo Shoot

02:07
Organize and group your products on the rail to gain efficiency and leave more time for great styling. See more tutorials at http://styleshoots.com/product-photography-tutorials/ Steam all your garments before starting a session, ideally a day in advance. Don’t cram too many garments onto one rail. Allow for some space to prevent creasing. Ensure the garment is steamed to its natural shape and isn’t skewed in any way. Keep water in the steamer on standby for items that may need a finishing touch just before being photographed. Pay attention to collars, bows or ties. Be sure not to miss the bottoms, edges and sides of garments. Understand which fabrics can be steamed and which cannot, such as leather. For example, an iron does a much neater and crisper job of pressing pleats on a shirt, so be sure to use the right tool for the job. Group garments by length. This saves you from zooming in and out between shots and ensures consistency in image size. Group garments by sleeve type. Shoot sleeveless items first and work your way through garments according to sleeve length. This makes handling the mannequin much more efficient. See more tutorials at http://styleshoots.com/product-photography-tutorials/ For light and white garments, step the exposure down to avoid bright areas burning out. Better have it a tad too dark, than lose detail. For dark and black garments, step the exposure up, to avoid details disappearing. Take multiple images and choose the best ones later. If a garment i both black and white at the same time, you may need to composite two images in post, but generally you’ll be able to find a good middle ground while taking the shot. A versatile lighting setup should be arranged symmetrically around the product area giving you consistency in color, detail and freedom to make adjustments. By altering the balance between the individual lights in your setup, you can achieve dramatically different styles. When combined with diffusers and reflectors, your creative possibilities become almost infinite. Zoom in to showcase texture and details like stitching, buttons and zippers.
