A Family dinner for my Birthday

12:22
Last years birthday was a fairly big affair but I felt family was left out of the celebrations so this year it's just a family thing. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W This restaurant specializes in Isan style food and I chose to come here because all the girls in our family love their Isan food. I actually felt the large party at the Rome restaurant became segregated between the Thai and my farang guests and there was no mixing between the 2 groups. Although it was a good party, I felt family was dislocated so this year I'm just having the family for my celebration. Now, the food, on the other hand, was as good or better than what we had at the Rome and it was generally 1/3 the price so, in my book, it was great value. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the meal which is the main thing. Checking out the Dog Country Cafe

19:07
Chanya picked the most adorable place to visit on her day off today. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Even after 2 and 1/2 years living in Bangkok, I'm still surprised by some of the special places. This place, the Dog Country Cafe is no exception. I'm always browsing the internet looking for something unique, but it was Chanya who picked this place. I'm getting the feeling she wants a new dog. Of course, I'm not that easy to convince that owning a dog here in the suburbs is a good idea. They need places to run and things to keep them occupied but there is no real space for that. Aside from the soi dogs roaming, most dog owners around our way keep their dogs in cages which simply won't be something I would stand for. Of course, it will end up being me who takes the dog out for playtime which will work given Chanya works now. I would still be concerned about the interaction with the soi dogs and their territorial boundaries. The main thing that holds me back right now is that I haven't got over the passing of my last dog who died at the age of 17. Harley test ride at Panda Rider

09:41
In my mind, weekend rides need a destination and Panda Rider have Harley Davidson offering more test rides so I took the short ride out to see both. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Some people might think motorcycle riding is dangerous here in Thailand. Well, as they say, you only live once so make it a fun ride. It does seem to me that Harley Davidson is sure keen to get people onto their bikes in the hope that we'll buy them. Alas, unless they can find finance for retiree's, I'll have to wait until I win the lottery before I can get one. It is one of the little gripes I have given that I had a perfect credit rating before I left Australia. Oh well, it's their loss and I already have my bike which is just as much or even more fun to ride. The main reason for the ride out here today was that I have not been to this Panda Rider store before. It certainly beats riding into the city to their main store that's for certain. I did find an item there which I need to get for Chanya's bike. She wants to mount her phone for GPS navigation but you really need to power them as the phone will suck a lot of battery without external power. This requires some sort of USB power source and they had a few on display. It's Chanya's birthday!

15:17
Another year is done and dusted so it's time to celebrate Thai style and eat food - lol Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Tonight we could have gone anywhere but Chanya wanted to eat Issan food at our favourite little Korat style restaurant. We've eaten here many times before and the food is very tasty and the selection is varied. Of course, the birthday cake was not on their menu but mother picked out a lovely cake from the bakery at our local Big-C Extra on the way there. The rainy season certainly didn't let us down and we got the typical downpour which is how life goes here in Thailand. A wonderful family affair and wonderful times to share with my sweetheart. Chanya talks about dating in Thailand (Chanya พูดถึงการออกเดทในประเทศไทย)

26:37
We just had a spot of rain so everything had just cooled down so we take a run to Dalat World Market for a spot of shopping and market food. We found a new stall owner making that special ice cream which I've seen on other videos so I decided to try some. Anyway, I thought it might be nice to have Chanya give her views on dating Thai girls and what might work for guys outside the bar girl scene. __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. My laptop broke so back to the Mall!

22:28
It looks like the power issue from a few weeks back broke my laptop so I need to take it to the mall for a warranty repair. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W It does seem that every time I take Chanya shopping that we are always getting things for her. The shoe is on the other foot today because my laptop needs repairs and I need a new camera. I did mention in January that I was looking around at different options but now that it is March, I have saved up enough to make a purchase. I was looking at the DJI Ozmo Pocket but I have also been looking at the Sony FDR-X3000 as an alternative. One thing I have been wanting on a camera is the auxiliary microphone input. Sony also makes a Handycam which is similar to my Panasonic rig but the price is outside my budget. Thankfully, the gods have been smiling on me and we find the Sony FDR-X3000 is on special with a bunch of extras. Chanya did seem a little sad that she didn't get a dress today, but we did manage to pop around an buy an outdoor table and chair set for the salon. We pick up Chanya's CB650F (เรารับ CB650F ของ Chanya)

10:38
Ok, we're off to pick up Chnaya's Honda CB650F and ride it home. It took 3 days to transfer from Australia to Thailand and another 4 days to transfer inter-bank in Thailand, but we finally got the money through. It would have taken another 3 days to transfer to the dealer but Chanya said it was easier to simply draw the money out and pay cash. Of course, I could have done that initially, but the would have meant running into Bangkok and carrying a large wad of cash around but that's how this cash society works over here. Anyway, the pick-up went smoothly and she got the bike home safely so everything worked out fine. __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Our Vios goes to the Body Shop

18:17
Our car has had a few scrapes over the last couple of months so I sent it to the Body Shop to get it all sorted out. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W I'm still pleasantly surprised by the quality of workmanship at really affordable rates here in Thailand. Our car is getting on in years now and at last count, it was 16 years old. Mind you, with this panel work and respray, you'd think it just came off the showroom floor. Today in this video, I take a divergence from our normal daily life and take you to the panel beaters to pick up our Vios which has been in the shop for the last couple of weeks. Driving the Fortuna around is not only expensive on the gas, but it is also a pig to drive in Bangkok traffic. All up, the car has been resprayed inside and out along with new light fittings and trim. The best part of the exercise is that it only cost 23,000 Baht (~$1000 AUD) so I am certainly not complaining. It's almost like driving a new car again! __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Our riding group organised some test rides at Harley Davidson of Bangkok Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W As I've mentioned before, we have a small group of dedicated riders who met through the Foreign Motorcycle Riders of Thailand Facebook group. We've taken long rides but sometimes we just get together to hang out. Today our friend Por has organised some demo rides at Harley Davidson of Bangkok for us to get a feel for the Harley's. Although the Harleys are out of my price range, I did love the tour of their showroom and got to ride a Forty Eight for the first time which was a bit of a treat. Alas, I don't think I'll be trading in my Kawasaki Vulcan unless finance companies finally see the light and allow foreign resident retiree's finance options. As far as I'm concerned, it's their loss and not mine. After our test rides, we took a run to a cafe that Por raid was good. The food there was great, but a little on the expensive side of things. Who pays 350 baht for a shredded pork burger? I must admit, it did taste good though. Vlog 153 - Checking out the second hand car dealers

Fitting a gel seat upgrade for the Vulcan

16:06
I've been saying that I needed to sort out the seat for my Vulcan, so today we take a ride into Bangkok and get it fitted. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Sorry guys, Chanya is not with me today, but I do take a run into Bang Na, Bangkok to visit Noi Watdan 24. My friend Bob had his Vulcan seat upgraded with a Gel insert last year and recommended this place. I'm sure some of the comfort issues for cruisers is solved by manufacturers like Harley Davidson by using a spring seat, but the seat on the Vulcan is fixed to the frame which means there is only a basic foam layer to absorb the bumps. Adding a 20mm layer of Gel to the seat will help absorb and even out the pressure points on the seat or that is the theory behind it anyway. I was quite impressed with the speed these guys worked at, given that I didn't make an appointment but they were quick to the task anyway. 45 minutes later, and parting with 2,000 baht, I was on the road again. Saturday afternoon in Cha-Am

Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W It's been a few years since I visited Cha-Am but hanging out with Rob and Bee certainly makes a fun Saturday afternoon. We first head out to take a look at where they are building their house. It is going to be big and will be a great place to visit when they get it finished. We then head down to the beach and dip our toes in the water. I was quite surprised but the lack of people on the beach. I can only guess that it is due to the overcast day. Mind you, Rob did say that the tourist numbers are down from previous years around this time. We head home for a freshen up and then head out for dinner on the beach. To be totally honest, this restaurant couldn't be any closer to the beach without actually being in the water. The food was great, the company was wonderful and we had a really good feed. If you are interested in the location for this restaurant, here is the google map pin location. https://goo.gl/maps/zA9zXDrzAGq __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. The Harley Davidson Open House

Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Yet again, I got a notification on Facebook that Harley Davidson was holding an open house in the centre of Bangkok. This seemed like a great idea for another video given that I had recently covered the Ducati Demo Day. I wasn't going to take a chance on the weather and ride in so I took at Taxi and the double shuffle on the Skytrain and Underground network to get there. I got a few minutes to talk to the manager but was unable to get any further inside information on when we might see the price drop across the range of motorcycles Harley Davidson is building here in Thailand. The body language was difficult to read, but I'd be hedging bets that we could see the drop around Christmas time or maybe even the Motor Show that runs in early December. 90-Day check-in and Visa renewal

09:33
Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W We head back into Bangkok Immigration to run the gauntlet again with the 90-day check-in and my O-A Retirement Visa extension. The trick here is to get tickets in both queues and keep your fingers crossed that both numbers don't get called at the same time. While waiting in the L-queue for the visa extension, I could see that the 90-day check-in was going to be called up at roughly the same time so I grabbed another 90-day queue ticket as a backup. No one likes hanging around in long queues so you need to get creative. Well, even though my bank said that the bank statement needed to show a transaction within the last 3 days of presentation to immigration, the certifying letter MUST be signed on the day you visit the immigration office. No one can explain the logic for this to me and it is really frustrating that's for sure. I think I'll be looking at changing banks very soon because it looks to me that Thailand Immigration has an issue with Citibank for some reason. It might be because they are an international (foreign) bank and Thailand doesn't have full insight into their records or something like that. I am only speculating but it was some strange body language I was reading when I inquired why the cover letter needed to be signed on the day of renewal. Oh well, as we say, This is Thailand! I guess it's partly due to our focus on getting the salon set up and running. Oh well, suffice it to say, it is that time again for our 90-Day Check-In. I've done the run today on the Vulcan to try and beat the traffic congestion, but I can imagine that Changwattana Road is going to be this bad for the next 2-3 years while they add the new BTS Pink line. This might make the whole process a lot easier if there aren't too many Skytrain interchanges from our place, but I guess that's not the reason for this line anyway. A water fountain for the Salon

It's been a slow few weeks with Songkran and the school holidays, but now it's time to prepare for the next year ahead. Chanya wanted to enhance the front of the salon with a water feature. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W The school holidays are now over and it's time for the new year ahead. Adding a water fountain to the front of your business seems to be a common feature around our area. We had seen a few out at Sanam Luang 2 recently so we took a run back there to pick one up. Chanya has been giving me some insight into the way business runs around the calendar cycle. A typical Thai household puts all their spare cash into the Songkran celebration and once that is over, they are then scraping by to clothe their children for the next year of school. Now that those 2 events have passed, the women will once again be thinking of their appearance and splashing out on things that make them the star of the family so we need to prepare the salon for the new year ahead. Avoid getting sick in Thailand

20:20
While riding home last week from Mother Trucker Burgers, I passed an ambulance stuck in traffic and no one was giving it any space to get through. It was this that had me thinking about Thailand health points. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W It really can be a problem if you are being rushed to the hospital and then find it was probably quicker to walk if you're stuck in traffic. No, I wasn't in any sort of trouble, but this traffic issue problem for ambulances got me thinking about general health issues here in Thailand. Statistics are showing that 20% of ambulance patients are dying in transit due to not getting the right of way on the roads. This got me thinking of things foreign visitors should be aware of if they choose Thailand as a holiday destination. I'm sure there are many more things that could go on the list. This was the first 10 that seemed relevant from reading articles and foreigner questions over the last few months. __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Exploring Bangkok

22:02
Sometimes it is just fun to drop into Bangkok and wander around for a little exploration. I called up Tim and he wasn't busy either so off we went. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Tim is still getting his foothold in Thailand after 5 months in the Kingdom. It can be difficult to acclimate and learn the lay of the land unless you get out and start exploring. What better city is there to explore than central Bangkok? If you’ve lived your whole life in western culture, you’ll find Bangkok is really no different from any big city. Cities like New York in the US, London in the UK or Sydney Australia. There are some oddities to get used too, but on the whole, you just need to get out of the house and go adventuring. I needed to go to the MBK centre to see if I could pick up a new pendant, which I lost while visiting Sukhothai. Tim was looking for an Apple keyboard so he could free up a port on his Mac Book. This meant we actually had a goal to achieve which justified the meandering around the city. After wandering around the shopping district, I suggested we drop into Hooters at Silom for a beer. Tim has been banned from visiting my favourite bar on Sukhumvit so Silom seemed like a good destination. We did get there in time for the girls to do their funky dance routines which was a bonus for us and our viewers. Then we took a stroll down to Patpong to check out the night bazaar where I bumped into Billy who has done 2 of my tattoos and is still in Patpong after 10 years. At the west end of Patpong we checked out an Irish bar but there was no air-conditioning so we moved on. We finally landed at The Cosmos where we had a bite to eat and a few beverages. This wrapped up our adventure and got us home in time for our girls without causing any dramas. Thai life living with a Ladyboy

Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au The ThailandHUB Social Forum: https://thailandhub.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W I try to avoid the subject of our unique relationship, but all my friends keep telling me I should be talking about it more. For me, it hardly ever crosses my mind that Chanya was borne a male because everything about her portrays female. In my eyes, she is the most beautiful girl on the planet and she fills my life with joy. The only reason I'm now going to talk about it more is due to the recent vlogumentary Leonid made about us and another couple here in Thailand in a similar unique lifestyle. Chanya's Salon is almost finished

Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W The work on Chanya's salon is almost complete now. It is, at least, ready for cutting hair so I took the opportunity to be the first customer. We still have a few items to acquire, such as a Desk, a product shelf, some work trollies for the stylists, some sign writing and installing the trademark Barber's pole out the front. I'm quite surprised at how quickly it has all come together and seeing Chanya's enthusiasm to get this underway has been a great experience. She has come home exhausted every day for the last 2 weeks. Anyway, we are looking at the 6th of November as the official opening day when we get the monks to bless the establishment. If you want to come around and be here for the official opening, let us know on our facebook page and we'll keep you in the loop. Here is an unofficial Google map pin for the location and once she finalizes on the name of the salon, I'll make an official map location. https://goo.gl/maps/ST4bLTbb6Sv __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. My Drivers License Renewal in Thailand

Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Two years ago I applied for my drivers license through a consultant so they took care of everything when I transferred my license over from an Australian license. This time around I decided to run the gauntlet alone with Chanya's help mainly because I can't find any useful information that can assist me with the process. Anyway, it took nearly all the day to sort it out but we did get both licenses renewed. The last time around I used a service I found on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/Tiktokservices/) but now that I live in the Bangkok province, I can't use her as she is based in the Chon Buri (Pattaya) province. She was very helpful and it was worth the 5,000 baht for her to do all the running around so if you are visiting and need an agent, she will do her best to sort you out. __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Our Video Blog covers the typical things we find ourselves doing as we build our life together living in the suburbs of Bangkok. My fiancée is a post-op ladyboy and we have been together since 2009. I finally moved to Thailand in September 2016 because the 8 years of travelling to see her were taking its toll. Getting my Tabien Baan and Thai ID Card (รับบัตรประชาชนไทยและสำเนาทะเบียนบ้าน)

So, I finally get things organized with my Thai family and we apply for my Tabian Baan. Apart from the running around to get the necessary document certifications, it proved to be a relatively simple process. You can read the reference document I referred to here:- https://xpat.life/thailand/tabien-baan Ministry of Foreign Affairs https://goo.gl/maps/vCMorefcFys Australian Embassy https://goo.gl/maps/dhLpuDia9UA2 Our Local Amphur https://goo.gl/maps/dft3mwbQM112 __ __ __ __ __ __ I chose early retirement over working the 40 40 40 plan and now I'm living stress-free as an Aussie expat living in Thailand with my Thai girlfriend. Chanya's day off

13:59
Another week goes by and it's Chanya's day off again. This time she wanted to go to the markets. Join our Website - https://www.dia.net.au Follow us on Patreon - https://goo.gl/LdZ18W Some people will find it odd but I do look forward to Chanya's one day off each week. This is where she can choose whatever she wants (within reason) and I'll be by her side all the way. Today we are visiting Sanam Luang 2 markets and then head off to the Seacon Bangkae mall. Sanam Luang 2 is quite a popular weekend market for the locals, but a fairly large proportion of the market is open on weekdays as well. They have quite a range of home decorating products and plenty of food stalls. Chanya was looking for something she wanted for the Salon. We then headed to the Seacon Bangkae mall where she bought some shoes. The last time I was here, there was no central display happening, but this time we were in luck. Anyway, some cosmetics and a new dress made her day and we headed home.
