BABY POINT REAL ESTATE = YORKVILLE REAL ESTATE INVESTMENT
Baby Point is rich in Real Estate History: The site with its tremendous fortification feature and location by the Humber River was the settlement of the Seneca Indians in the 1600’s. The first reported European visitor to Toronto was Étienne Brûlé who befriended the Senecas at Teiaiagon Village– the site of current day Baby Point. With the foundation of the town of York (Toronto) in 1793 the native American population had dispersed from this area and in 1816 James Baby (pronounced bah-bee), a prominent former politician of Upper Canada and member of a Quebec fur trading company created a settlement which was what has become a Toronto Garden Oasis. In 1910 the Government acquired the land with the intention to build a military fortress here yet in 1912 it was sold to Robert Home Smith who in turn developed the area as a subdivision in 1912.  It is believed that one first people to have a home here was Mr. William Yardley of the Yardley cosmetics company (first at #1 Baby Point Cres. and then when construction was completed at # 49 on the Crescent – named Tooraweenah).
BABY POINT RECREATION
The social and recreational centre of this neighbourhood is the Baby Point Club, located on the island surrounded by Baby Point Road, Baby Point Cres. and Fleury St. This private neighbourhood club features two tennis courts, lawn bowling and a log cabin clubhouse that hosts various social events throughout the year.
Having been privileged to have lived at 19 Baby Point Cres. for 10 years, the Author, during his youth, can confirm how living on Baby Point is like living in a small village in the heart of the city. The Baby Point Club embodies this and the club house acts as a Community Centre for social events, bridge, and sports functions: activities designed to strengthen the community and Baby Point culture. In the 1970`s the writer recalls the festive Baby Point Games (like the Olympics but for the kids and families in the area). This atmosphere of Community continues to thrive according to several sources who reside on `the Point`.
BABY POINT ARCHITECTURE & MORE BABY POINT HISTORY
The Georgian and Victorian Architectural styles are most dominant although in recent years renovated homes have also added a touch of modernism architecture. The majority of Baby Point houses were built in the 1920s and 1930s and within these homes contain rich oak trim and doors as well as ornate fireplaces. For the most part, when driving around The Point this early 1900’s charm is for the most part being maintained. A large part of the architecture within this Community extends itself the immaculately maintained garden and front gardens. View Baby Point in Google Map and see these gardens which in many cases comes with an indoor and or outdoor swimming pool.
