Hey guys. Welcome back. I’m Shaina, if you’re new here. So I just got done reading “The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up,” which explains the KonMari method, it’s a Japanese art of decluttering and organizing. Maybe you’ve done it yourself or just heard about it or maybe this all new information for you.
What I’ve done is put together a playlist of short videos in relation to the Konmari method, starting with this one.
So in this video, I want to talk about what it is and why it really does work, as far as being life changing! Here we go…
This method of tidying is very, very simple. I’m going to give you guys the exact steps on how to do it in the next video, but the overall concept is to only keep the things in your living space that spark complete JOY and get rid of everything else.
At first, this may seem outrageous, but I can attest to the fact that it truly is life changing. The author says in the book, by doing this, “you are compelled to reset your life,” and I couldn’t have said it better myself. That is the feeling that comes over you when you do this.
When I went through coach training, I learned a lot about how our living spaces are really a reflection of what’s going on inside of us. In fact, one of my all time favorite exercises to do with my clients was “the living space tool,” because it gave me so many clues as to what was going on with them.
If someone had a messy room, I knew that their mind was a mess. While an organized space equals a more relaxed mind. A light and bright environment is equivalent to a positive outlook on life. If a client said to me, “I always have the blinds closed.” Well, that’s a sign you’re closing yourself off from something out in the world.”
And the insights go even deeper than that! For example, if your space looks clean and organized when you walk in your home, but your closets are full from top to bottom with things, that’s a good indicator that you put on a happy front to the world, but there’s a lot of crap you’re hiding deep down.
With that being said, when you clean up + organize your physical surroundings; you clean up your mental state and well being…and vice verse. When people do a lot of inner work, they’ll suddenly start to redecorate. It’s pretty cool how it works.
So the KonMari method, because it’s such an extreme cleanout, it creates such a huge impact…mentally, where you just become super clear on what you need in your life and what you don’t. So as you clean up your personal belongings, you suddenly realize which relationships you want to let go of or you have the light bulb moment of “Oh my goodness, I really don’t like my job, and really want to be doing XYZ instead.” This is what makes it life changing. You suddenly gain this mental clarity AND the motivation to see your newfound revelations through.
With that being said, I encourage you guys to give it a shot. Next, I’m giving you a cheat sheet on the KonMari method and how to do it…
