How to Set Environment Variables in Linux

00:56
Follow this tutorial to learn how to set shell environment variables in a Linux operating system like Ubuntu. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in linux. Linux based operating systems use bash shell. The shell environment variables are used for several purposes, from storing data, storing software configurations, set terminal settings, and changing shell environment. The environment variables are normally created by the operating system during installation, or by different software as per the required need. Apart from that, in linux, to set environment variables, we first need to access the terminal application. That's because the user has the privilege to add, edit, and remove different variables at will. Step # 1 -- All variables on terminal In linux, to set environment variables we first need to access shell environment variables. For that, we will need to open the terminal by searching for it in the applications menu, or selecting it from the dock on the left. Once the terminal is opened up, to check for all environment variables, type the set command and press enter. This will list all the environment variables stored in the shell. Step # 2 -- One variable at a time The amount of these variables can become a very long list and locating one specific variable can become a tough task. Fortunately Linux allows us to display the value of one shell variable by using the echo command along with the name of the variable. This makes the task very easy. Step # 3 -- Changing a variable Now, to add or modify an environment variable, we can use the export command followed by the name of the variable and the values that go with it. Multiple values for a variable need to be separated by a colon. The colon indicates to the operating system that one value has ended and another has begun. The variables can be created and removed from the shell easily, and can be done whenever required. But changing important variables may mess with the operating system's functionalities so it's important to be careful. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in Linux.

how to create directory in oracle 12c, 11g

02:52
Use the CREATE DIRECTORY statement to create a directory object. A directory object specifies an alias for a directory on the server file system where external binary file LOBs and external table data are located. You can use directory names when referring to BFILEs in your PL/SQL code and OCI calls, rather than hard coding the operating system path name, for management flexibility. All directories are created in a single namespace and are not owned by an individual schema. You can secure access to the BFILEs stored within the directory structure by granting object privileges on the directories to specific users. You must have CREATE ANY DIRECTORY system privilege to create directories. When you create a directory, you are automatically granted the READ and WRITE object privileges on the directory, and you can grant these privileges to other users and roles. The DBA can also grant these privileges to other users and roles. WRITE privileges on a directory are useful in connection with external tables. They let the grantee determine whether the external table agent can write a log file or a bad file to the directory. For file storage, you must also create a corresponding operating system directory, an ASM disk group, or a directory within an ASM disk group. Your system or database administrator must ensure that the operating system directory has the correct read and write permissions for Oracle Database processes. Privileges granted for the directory are created independently of the permissions defined for the operating system directory, and the two may or may not correspond exactly. For example, an error occurs if sample user hr is granted READ privilege on the directory object but the corresponding operating system directory does not have READ permission defined for Oracle Database processes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Default directory is DATA_PUMP_DIR.Below command is to get directory name and directory path. SELECT directory_name, directory_path FROM dba_directories WHERE directory_name='DATA_PUMP_DIR' DIRECTORY_NAME DIRECTORY_PATH --------------- ------------------------------------------------------- DATA_PUMP_DIR /u01/app/mohammad75/product/12.1.0/dbhome_1/rdbms/log/

What is Oracle Base?

07:39
When you install Oracle Software for the first time in a machine, you would need to specify a folder that would act as a base for all the Oracle related softwares and folders. And every subsequent folders will be organized and referred using this base folder. This folder is called ORACLE_BASE For example, if you configure C:\app\oracle as your ORACLE BASE, then every folders will be created beneath it in an uniform structure. If you install, Oracle 12c software in Windows, it will by default, be installed in, C:\app\oracle\product\12.1.0\dbhome_1 Because Oracle_BASE is C:\app\oracle And, if you install, SQL Developer software, it will be installed in C:\app\oracle\product\sqldeveloper So, it is very important to setup the ORACLE_BASE environment variable before installing the Oracle software. To do that, first create the folder that you would want to designate as ORACLE_BASE. Then set the environment variable ORACLE_BASE What if ORACLE_BASE wasn’t set before invoking the Oracle Universal Installer? In Linux/UNIX: It will search for the first writable directory from /u01 to /u09 Let us say, it finds /u02 as the first writable directory and you have logged in as the OS user ‘oracle’ Then it will create a folder called /u02/app/oracle and will make it as the ORACLE_BASE If it cannot find any writable area from /u01 to /u09, then it will create the app/oracle directory under the user’s home directory. In Windows: It will search for the disk drive that has the most amount of free space Let us say, it finds D drive as the one and you are logged in as the OS user Oracle Then it will create a folder called D:\app\oracle and will make it as the ORACLE_BASE

How to Set Environment Variables in Windows

01:27
Follow this step by step tutorial to learn how to set environment variables from system settings in the windows operating system. Don't forget to check out our site http://howtech.tv/ for more free how-to videos! http://youtube.com/ithowtovids - our feed http://www.facebook.com/howtechtv - join us on facebook https://plus.google.com/103440382717658277879 - our group in Google+ In this tutorial, you will learn how to set environment variables in windows. Operating systems require environment variables as settings and configurations for several processes. Although these variables are automatically defined or initialized during the installation of the system or specific software, in windows, to set environment variables manually is not a difficult task. That's because windows allows us to manually add, remove or edit environment variables through system settings according to our requirements. Step # 1 -- Opening environment variables In windows, to set environmental variables, you can take two paths. Either we can go to control panel, then access the system security option, and then the system option. Or we can simply right click on My Computer and select its properties. Once we are in the system window, select the advanced system settings from the list on the left side. A new window will pop up. Over here, click on the environment variables button near the bottom of this window and you can now access the Windows environment variables. Step # 2 -- Adding a variable In this window there are two sets of environment variables, one is the "user variables", and the other is the "system variables". Choose the new button in the user variables section to open the "define a new variable" dialog window. Over here, you will be required to define the variable name as anything you wish to set, such as temporary and then define its value as the path to the directory. With that done, let's complete this process by pressing OK. Your new environment variable has been created now. Step # 3 -- Editing and removing a variable To edit an environment variable, click on it, and then click on the edit button to open a dialog window. Here we can edit the name and value of the variable. Likewise to remove an environment variable, simply click on the variable and then click on the delete button. Once all the definitions are complete, close the window and restart your computer to allow the operating system to load these settings on boot. And that's basically all you need to know for how to set environment variables in windows.

This tutorial is also helpful to install Zentyal Server 5.0 on physical computer or server hardware. We also install Guest Additions on Zentyal Server for better performance and usability features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display, Shared Folder, Seamless Mode and Shared Clipboard, Improved Performance and Drag and Drop. Steps: 1- Create Virtual Machine on Oracle VirtualBox 2- Start Zentyal Server 5.0 Installation 3- Install VirtualBox Guest Additions on Zentyal Server 5.0 4- Test Guest Additions Features: Automatic Resizing Guest Display and Shared Clipboard 5- Installing Additional Server Roles: Domain Controller and File Sharing, DNS Server and DHCP Server 6- Zentyal Server 5.0 Initial Configuration via Web GUI 7- Create Organizational Unit, New User and Group 8- Create, Configure and Test CIFS/SMB Shared Folder 9- Configure DHCP Server on Zentyal Server 10- Zentyal Server 5.0 Overview Zentyal Server 5.0 New Features and Improvements Zentyal Server is a unified network server that offers easy and efficient computer network administration for small and medium-size businesses. Zentyal Server incorporates all the network services required in a small and medium business environment, most importantly the first-ever native Microsoft Active Directory implementation on Linux that is easy to use. These functionalities are tightly integrated, automating most tasks, avoiding mistakes and saving time for system administrators. Zentyal Server 5.0 is based on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and it comes with the latest versions of all the integrated software. New features and improvements include: - Latest released version of Samba directly from upstream, without any custom patch by Zentyal - Comes with all the fixes in the Samba project since Samba 4.3, which are many, specially on the replication code - The Zentyal integration code has been rewritten to no longer need the custom patches, this will result in more stability and maintainability, getting newer versions quicker - NSS/PAM is now managed with winbind instead of sssd, which is the recommended way - New UI using modern web technologies with improved look&feel, visual effects and usability - Lots of fixes and improvements on ActiveSync implementation - New HTTP Proxy module Linux Small Business Server Website: http://www.zentyal.org/ Download Zentyal Server 5.0 ISO: http://www.zentyal.org/server/ Zentyal Server 5.0 Minimum System Requirements - Zentyal runs on standard x86_64 (64-bit) hardware. However, you must ensure that Ubuntu Xenial 16.04 LTS (kernel 4.4) supports the hardware you are going to use. - The Zentyal server hardware requirements depend on the modules you install, how many users will use the services and what their usage patterns are. - Some modules have low resource requirements, like Firewall, DHCP or DNS. Others, like Mailfilter or Antivirus need more RAM memory and CPU. Proxy and File sharing modules benefit from faster disks due their intensive I/O usage. - A RAID setup gives a higher level of security against hard disk failures and increased speed on read operations. - If you use Zentyal as a gateway or firewall, you will need at least two network cards, but if you use it as a standalone server, one network card is enough. Hope you found it informative and useful. Any questions or comments are welcomed. The NTFS system requirements listed in this section are more accurate than the hard disk values reported by the Oracle Universal Installer Summary window. The Summary window does not include accurate values for disk space, the space required to create a database, or the size of compressed files that are expanded on the hard drive. The hard disk requirements for Oracle Database components include 32 MB required to install Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and Oracle Universal Installer on the partition where the operating system is installed. If sufficient space is not detected, installation fails and an error message appears. .----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------. video courses- list of playlist : tips and trics link► https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOfLYVXrwqXrI5jvwUEi6N13QR4xCj2k2 command prompt commands: link►https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOfLYVXrwqXobXGUdGk6JhzyQ216dNiQL oracle sql: link►https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOfLYVXrwqXqoUWCoh4cARGDW13SofDO- c programming: link►https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOfLYVXrwqXrZ_Ub8EXeLY7YP1YxhoJzf .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------. watch more videos: learn oracle sql online overview tutorail : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dfesgj4w8QA&t=8s how to fix or repair a corrupted usb flash drive or cd card using command prompt: https://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id... how to copy a folder using cmd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lblhb... how to move a folder using cmd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFfHZ... how to dell files in cmd: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3-lqg... how to make and remove directory: https://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id... how to change color and title in cmd: https://www.youtube.com/edit?video_id... how to change directory in command prompt: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmLYx... .-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------. social media links: join our group: ► https://www.facebook.com/groups/24299... ► Follow on Google+: http://[email protected] ► Follow on Twitter: https://twitter.com/@rananavi4766669 :
