Brooklyn Sittner, from Billings, Montana, started weight training at six-years-old after falling in love with the sport at her dad’s gym and can now lift 45kgs - the equivalent weight of a teenage boy. The pint-sized weightlifter set three state records at the Montana State Weightlifting Championships - lifting a combined total of 74kgs - and is on her way to dominating at the Youth Nationals in June. Today we have a challenge at Six Pack Shortcuts Headquarters between two of our trainers to see who can be dubbed the King or Queen of the official Six Pack Shortcuts Pull-Up Challenge. Before we tip-off, here are the rules for the challenge: -Strict pull-ups only -No kipping - using your core in a “push-press” motion to use momentum to get up and over the bar -No swaying of the body -The chin must reach above the bar for the rep to count Pre-challenge predictions: Ashley is yoked, guys…I’m worried for my boy Henry to be honest. Did I forget to mention…Winner gets to sign their name and forever be immortalized on the Clark Shao Memorial Gym wall…Loser has to go do lunges around the ENTIRE Six Pack Shortcuts Headquarters. Each competitor has one minute to do as many pull-ups as they can. Remember, if their chin doesn't go up and past the bar, the rep does not count. It originated in Ancient Greece, but became a popular movement in Russia, Eastern Europe. and the United States, especially in New York City and Baltimore's urban neighborhoods. It has now spread all over the world. It is a combination of athletics, calisthenics, and sports. Street workout is a modern name for bodyweight workouts in outdoor parks. Street workout teams and organized competitions exist. A typical street workout routine often consists of physical exercises such as pull-ups, chin-ups, push-ups, dips, muscle-ups, sit-ups and squats. Street workout also involves some static (isometric) holds such as the human flag, front lever, back lever and planche. Never Do Ab Wheel Rollouts Like This!

Given their ease of setup, they are actually a great exercise for home workouts too since you can do them on the floor with very little space and one inexpensive ab wheel. The problem is, the ab rollout is also one of the most abused and misperformed exercises which can quickly ruin your lower back if you don’t fix how you’re doing them. In this video, I’m going to show you how to perform an ab wheel rollout safely so you can train your abs without wrecking your back. The problem with the ab wheel rollout starts with the position of your lower back during the setup of the exercise. The two things you want to avoid is letting your hips drop down into a straight line with your back and getting the hands out too far from the body. Either one of these will shift too much of the focus onto the lats and turn the into the prime mover of the exercise. This is not bad if you are looking for a great bodyweight back exercise but this is certainly not our goal when performing the ab wheel rollout. The back should be pulled out of the natural anterior pelvic tilt that occurs during the setup for this exercise. While you will be flexing the spine from above, a key function of the abdominal muscles, you will likely only be flattening the lumbar spine and pulling into a more of a posterior tilt from the excessive anterior tilt. This will have an effect of actually putting the back into a safer position to perform the exercise. From here, you want to consciously make sure that you hold the abs in a contracted position as you initiate the rollout. Only go out as far as your ab strength can support you. If you are a beginner, you may only be able to go out a foot or two. That is ok, as long as your lower back is not caving in at any point because your have surpassed the strength of your abs then you can still get great benefits from the exercise. If you are stronger, you can go out further and even hold the end position for awhile to increase the challenge. The next part is where most of us will ruin the exercise, even if it has been performed properly up to this point. Instead of initiating the return of the ab wheel to the top using the hips you have to contract the abs first and be sure to move your entire torso in one piece. Your hips and the wheel should come up together, without allowing the hips to travel backwards. In fact, you can check that you are doing this right by placing a bench behind your hips and making sure not to make contact with it with your butt as you pull back to the top. The most important element of this move is that you are getting both benefits of the abs if you want to get the most from it. The anti-extension and spinal flexion components of the abs are both going to be tested if you perform this right. Both are needed in order to build the ab strength necessary not only to get great results from the ab wheel rollout but to keep it a safe exercise choice as well. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who, along with many siblings and friends, had to watch me 24/7 as I was a danger to myself. Eventually I was hospitalized in the Psych Ward for a week. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, Mood stabilizers, anti psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I for the first time had any type of possible explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of such Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started Testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 5 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Treating my low testosterone has been 1 HUGE part of the puzzle but I have had to continue to work hard to hold on to my mental stability with many set backs. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor. I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time and I also share this on my channel.

In 2017, Iceland’s famous Dottirs vied for spots on the podium in one of the most heated women’s competitions in CrossFit Games history. In the end, Annie Thorisdottir, Sara Sigmundsdottir and Katrin Davidsdottir were stacked together in positions three, four and five, respectively. And they’re far from satisfied. This episode of “Road to the Games,” the first in the 2018 series, follows Iceland’s top three female CrossFit athletes in the months after the 2017 Games. Thorisdottir, who surprised many with her performance in 2017, says her training was motivated by the fans who no longer believed in her. “There were a lot of people that thought I was just done, burned out, that I was just there to compete,” Thorisdottir says. “I’m not just there to be a part of it,” she continues. “I’m there to compete for first place.” Davidsdottir trains with Thorisdottir when both are in Iceland, and their healthy rivalry pushes the two to go faster and lift heavier. Davidsdottir, who always has a spirit animal that represents her training mentality, says this year she’s going to be a sled dog. Sigmundsdottir, on the other hand, always has a theme song, and in this episode she’s singing “Solid as a Rock” from the TV show “Arrested Development.” Between song refrains, she shares insights into her nutrition habits and tells the story of how she got into weightlifting and fitness training. My 1 Year Body Transformation (Calisthenics) From Skinny To Ripped I use to be someone who was super skinny, weak, frail and i looked like a completely beta male with no physical appeal to females at all but just over 1 year ago i made the choice to change my physique and appearance fully by training intensely and consistently with body weight training with calisthenics, no body building! I managed to go from a skinny male weighing just a mere 55kgs/121lbs at my lowest weight to a ripped muscular alpha male weighing in at 70kgs/154lbs all within just one year! This journey was far from easy, there was times were i wanted to give up and just quit but i just kept pushing forward because i wanted to succeed with reaching my physique and fitness goals as much as i wanted to breathe. Ever wondered what is CrossFit or how to be a Crossfitter? Here are the top 5 reasons not to do CrossFit. Reason #5 – Speed over form You’re given a set amount of time to do a specific exercise as many times as possible. The higher the reps, the better you’ve done Crossfit says. Let’s think about this, is this actually GOOD for your body? Your body WILL fatigue, and when you’re tired, what happens? Your form goes. What happens when your form goes when lifting? Yeah, you know what happens. Reason #4 – You’re putting a lot of unnecessary stress on your joints. You have to have spent years in the gym to have built up strong tendons and ligaments. Complex compound movements such as the snatch and jerk are going to tax the HELL out of your joints and body when you haven’t put in the years at the gym. Just think for a little bit, why aren’t there many people above the age of 45 doing crossfit? Reason #3 – Your Crossfit instructor most likely knows as much as you do. $1000 and a 2 day seminar is all that's required for a level 1 certification. Let’s use logic here. When’s the last time you’ve learned ENOUGH about a specific discipline in TWO DAYS to start EDUCATING OTHER people?! NEVER!! The high cost for certification and short training program is to capitalize as much as possible on a trend. These coaches are supposed to be supervising complicated lifts at extreme fatigue. They're not trained on recognizing injuries, so many times when someone is truly injured, they're encouraged to keep going and often do more damage, as is seen in the CrossFit games. Reason #2 – You’re not actually doing anything productive towards a goal You’re literally showing up and just MOVING your body. Let’s think about this. You’re not actually trying to build muscle. You’re not actually trying to lose fat. Instead, the focus is on pain and intensity, although I’d argue the focus is on injury and making people feel good about themselves because they showed up and did something quote unquote hard. You’re not actually training as an athlete for a specific athletic sport. Is crossfit the fastest way to do any specific sport much better? Hell no. If you’re the type to need motivation, you’re a weak minded individual. Period If you want something, you set a goal, and you do whatever it takes to get to that goal. Reason #1 – Huge risk of Injury Even if you’re a seasoned vet training in the weight room, your risk of injury just goes up exponentially when you don’t listen to your body and push through reps with incorrect form. Crossfit exercises with all those Olympic style lifts just tax your joints incredibly hard, and Crossfit is just NOT a long term sustainable activity. Basically, crossfit just isn’t worth the injury risk and lack of productivity just so you can feel quote unquote good about doing a hard workout.
