FFiddler's Dram - Day trip to Bangor 1980 Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Do you recall the thrill of it all as we walked along the sea grand Then on the sand we heard a brass band that played the Diddlely-Bump-Terrara Elsie and me had one cup of tea then we took a Paddler boat out Splashing away as we sat on the bay and the wheels went 'round Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Wasn't it nice, eating chocolate ice as we strolled around the fun-fair Then we ate eels in big ferris wheels as we sailed around the ground but then We had to be quick 'cause Elsie felt sick and we had to find somewhere to take her I said to her lad, what made her feel bad was the wheel going 'round Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Elsie and me, we finished our tea and said goodbye to the seaside Got on the bus, Flo said to us, oh isn't it a shame to go Wouldn't it be grand to have cash on demand and to live like this for always Oh it makes me feel ill, when I think of the mill and the wheels goin' 'round Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around La la la la ...

Fiddler's Dram - "Day Trip to Bangor (Didn't We Have a Lovely Time)" - 1979

02:50
Fiddler's Dram were a British folk band of the late 1970s. They are mainly known for their hit single, "Day Trip to Bangor (Didn't We Have a Lovely Time)" (1979), although the sound of this record was not representative of the acoustic songs and tunes they had been performing for several years at folk clubs and festivals , The full-time members of the band were drawn from a group of musicians at the University of Kent at Canterbury and members of Duke's Folk Club in Whitstable. Jamming sessions in a Canterbury squat often took place with additional club members given the opportunity to take part in these sessions and sometimes at local performances. The band had an enthusiastic local following and played regularly at local clubs and bars in and around the Canterbury area, with the open nature of the bands ever changing part-time line-up contributing to the bands popularity. With other various club members, including John Jones and Ian Kearey, the full-time members of the band formed the Oyster Ceilidh Band c.1976, with Cathy Lesurf singing and later assuming the role of caller at dances. Sailing Magic Hawk - Day Trip To Bangor!

We don't have many subscribers to our channel (which is okay!) but someone out there may have noticed there have been no Sailing Magic Hawk videos this year! She has been hard standing for most of the season while we have performed an interior refit. This is 75% complete but we needed to move Magic Hawk nearer home so travelling would be less to complete the work. This video shows the final passage of the year from Holyhead to Dickies Boatyard at Bangor, North Wales and her subsequent haul out.

Cathy and the Cucumbers - Daytrip To Bangor

02:59
Cathy and the Cucumbers - Daytrip To Bangor. New Zealand music - 1980. Hit cover of Fiddler's Dram's original song from UK. Cathy and the Cucumbers managed to reach number 13 in NZ up against Fiddler's Dram at the same time on the charts. Fiddler's Dram reached number 19. At the same time another cover was released in Australia by The Duffy's Band which had a similar success and experience on the Australian charts. Fiddler's Dram reached number three spot in the UK ...but with no competition. The Lyrics: Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Do you recall the thrill of it all as we walked along the sea front Down on the sand we heard a brass band that played the Tiddlely-Pomp-Terrara Elsie and me had one cup of tea then we took a Paddler boat out Dashing away as we soared around the bay and the wheels went 'round Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Wasn't it nice, eating chocolate ice as we strolled around the fun-fair Then we ate eels in big ferris wheels as we sailed around the ground but then We had to be quick 'cause Elsie felt sick and we had to find somewhere to take her I said to her lad, what made her feel bad was the wheels going 'round Didn't we have a lovely time the day we went to Bangor A beautiful day, we had lunch on the way and all for under a pound you know But on the way back I cuddled with Jack and we opened a bottle of cider Singing a few of our favourite songs as the wheels went around Elsie and me, we finished our tea and said goodbye to the seaside Climbed on the bus, Flo said to us, oh isn't it a shame to go Wouldn't it be grand to have cash on demand and to live like this for always Oh it makes me feel ill, when I think of the mill and the wheels goin' 'round... lalala lalala..... FIDDLER'S DRAM Day Trip To Bangor

02:58
Early 1980 and radio/videoplay had me well and truly confused as to where pop music was heading. With The Flying Lizards' 'Money' and its discordant vocal, to the antiquated style and production on 'Day trip to Bangor', i wondered what sort of year we were in for! I was at that time filled with adolescent angst and missing the disco tracks that had represented my youth. Where was my pop music? Fiddler's Dram recorded the version best known of 'Day trip' with Aussie outfit Duffy Band and Kiwis Cathy & the Cucumbers also releasing renditions. The Australian version narrowly missed the Top 40, while the English original was a Top 10 national hit, after reaching the Top 3 in Britain. It truly was the strangest time musically, as new artists such as The Pretenders, The Buggles, The Clash were circling, and Aussie bands Australian Crawl, Sports,Split Enz and Inxs among others were bringing a new energy to pop culture, there were the novelty hits such as the two mentioned above and Monty Python's 'Always look on the bright side of life' that made up the assortment that was early 1980. In America, r&b was making a comeback and rock n roll thanks to Queen, Tom Petty, Police and Pink Floyd all releasing seminal tracks that season was alive and kicking. This is certainly a postcard from late 1979/early 1980.

Fiddler's Dram - Day Trip To Bangor No.3 3rdwk December 1979 UK

02:58
Fiddler's Dram - Day Trip To Bangor (Origninal Vinyl)(RadioSpeed) Got to No.3 in the third week of December 1979 in the United Kingdom. Uploaded by former Radio DJ John Magnetron. Song Facts have this as Bangor in Wales. I’m told here in Tenerife that this is definitely about Bangor in Northern Ireland not Bangor in Wales. Otherwise it would probably say ‘’Nid oes gennym ni amser hyfryd y diwrnod aethomni’r Bangor’’ and if it said ‘Didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch it would mean you went one stop to far on the train! And even then you would have over shot the right place in Wales and gone to the Isle of Anglesey. ‘Stead of that, if you have gone to Wales and then thought that you were there by mistake, you need a Stena Line Ferry from Hollyhead to Dublin and even then you will have gone to the wrong Ireland. If you ever get there, Bangor in Northern Ireland is more picturesque than Bangor in the North of Wales, but then if you use your mobile phone, on the Beach in Bangor county down, you will be directed back to Wales again, because ‘song facts’ say that this song was supposed to say didn’t we have a lovely time the day we went to ’Rhyl’ which is what the songs writer really meant. Another place to get your head kicked in if you ask me! http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=21792 And Going by the Guinness Book of Hit Single Records and the British Book of Hit Singles, which was compiled from information that was gathered by organizations such as the British Market Research Bureau, the New Music Weekly and Gallup. As well as falling back on the overlay of chart music seen on other Internet sites which reflects chart positions of music in the same periods. These Chart positions should, therefore, be the same as the BBC Chart positions as they were played at the time. But it should be noted that the said ‘book entries’ are found in these uploads and that chart positions from ’The Official Chart Company Internet site’ are not the same reflection although similar. The importance of the Public Playing the original Vinyl on certain internet sites, are recognized and appreciated in certain professional fields such as Radio, as it helps program organizers check that the tracks that are now used from Compact Disc, Mp3 Wav and Wma tracks of the same music, are, in fact, the definite article and not re-recordings or the same music played at a different speed. (RadioSpeed) in the UK was not a definite or purposeful difference, but was about 44,43 or 42 R.P.M caused by both, in different Radio Studios, cases of ’loss’ such as, Electrical, and Mechanical, heat resistance and, more so, drag from the Tone Arm. In Cases where a Record Deck had a variable speed, it is possible that the DJ’s made them turn that slightly bit slower so as, more often, over run, ‘News Time’ etc, as you could always fade the record out, but a DJ’s Nightmare is always being left with nothing to say, the minute before the hour. So a song played now at (RadioSpeed) such as it was unpredictably during, for example, the 1970’s, the equable slower speed from the past, will bring back more memories than any old nostalgic tune that has somehow, now, speeded up. Of Course, The re-productive qualities of 45's through these sites are not good enough for professional use!
