Many people who want to become product managers worry about amassing technical expertise. During this talk, the Senior Product Manager for video at LinkedIn argued that to be a great product manager, you first need to understand people. You also need to understand people's problems and desires in order to build products that address them.
In addition, he said that Product Managers need to understand people's motivations to guide a team to build and deliver products and you need to be able to capture value in metrics that are people-centric.
Jonathan (Jasper) Sherman-Presser is a Senior Product Manager for video at LinkedIn, where he leads a team of more than 30 across engineering, design, data science and editorial. Prior to LinkedIn, he was a product manager at Comcast's Silicon Valley Innovation Center, where he led social TV and second screen initiatives, and at MyNewPlace, an apartment rental search startup.
He has also spent time at Spotify working on telco partnerships and advised Trinity Ventures on investment strategy in the internet/video ecosystem. He holds an MBA, a BA in English, and in a former life led bicycle tours for a living.
