Anna Wintour is undoubtedly one of the most well-known and highly influential figures in the fashion industry due to her position as the editor-in-chief of Vogue Magazine in the United States. With her distinctive signature look of a pageboy bob hairstyle and her eyes shielded by dark sunglasses, Wintour is widely regarded by the press and among her peers in the industry as a champion of style and beauty. However, she has also received heavy criticism from her detractors regarding on her personality and the business strategies for the magazine she runs among other things. Love her or hate her, there’s truly no denying that Wintour reigns supreme as the fashion world’s gatekeeper, tastemaker, and power broker. Early Life: Wintour was born in London in November 3, 1949 to a British father and an American mother, and has four other siblings in her upper-class family. Her love for fashion was already apparent during her youth when she frequently rebelled against the strict uniform dress codes of her school, as well as devouring countless fashion magazines that would come to hone her eye for aesthetics. Career: In 1975, Wintour made the momentous decision to move to New York City as part of her plan to become the editor-in-chief of American Vogue. But before this would even become a reality, she held positions as a fashion editor for titles like Harper’s Bazaar and New York Magazine. Her dream and her father’s prediction happened in 1988 when Conde Nast, the publishing house of American Vogue and other top lifestyle magazines, hired her as the title’s editor-in-chief. Heights: Despite her prominence within the fashion industry, Wintour was relatively unknown in the mainstream consciousness until the publication and release of The Devil Wears Prada in 2003, written by her former assistant, Lauren Weisberger. Despite Weisberger’s claims that the fictional character of Miranda Priestly was not based on her former boss, many people in and out of the fashion industry still believe that Wintour was the main inspiration for the novel’s primary antagonist, since the character also happened to be an editor of a popular fashion magazine. When the film adaptation of the book came out later in 2006, Wintour’s public profile was expanded to a wider scale that everyday people on the streets of New York can recognize her every time she enters the building that houses the Vogue offices. Personal Life: Wintour’s first marriage with prominent child psychiatrist Dr. David Shaffer resulted in the birth of her two children, Charles and Katherine Shaffer. She has since divorced from Shaffer and has entered into a committed relationship with another high-profile divorcee, the American business executive, Shelby Bryan. Influence and Legacy: Wintour’s significant contributions to fashion on a global scale has provided her with multiple career milestones. Chief among these achievements was her appointment as Conde Nast’s artistic director in 2013, which gave her greater responsibilities to manage the visual direction of Vogue’s sister publications. Another major highlight was the Met Museum’s decision to name a wing of their building in her honor: the Anna Wintour Costume Center, which houses the collection of the Costume Institute and was endowed by philanthropists Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch. Her most recent achievement was when she was made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Queen Elizabeth II during the 2017 New Year’s Honours. Hey thank you so much watching a video. The proofs show why Meghan is now the most powerful woman in fashion

09:15
Like Princess Diana, Meghan Markle understands the importance of channelling subtle messages in her clothing — perhaps choosing fabrics which represent the place she’s visiting or which will resonate with the people she’s meeting. The pair also share a penchant for off-the-shoulder looks. This style is a particularly apt representation of both women’s wardrobes, delicately treading a line between regal and risqué — and it goes some way to explaining why Meghan appears to be copying so many of Diana’s choices. Like Diana, Meghan is opinionated, wilful and has a personality and a sense of style which are very much her own.

Here's What Gangs From All Over the World Look Like

08:09
Very few think about it, but almost every country has its low-class gangsters. And each of them has their own specific subculture and style. TIMESTAMPS France – Racaille (rah-KYE) 0:29 USA – White trash 1:09 England – Chavs 1:53 Japan – Yankii 2:36 India – Tapori 3:17 Spain – Cani 4:02 Scotland – Ned 4:43 Israel – Ars 5:23 South Africa – Zef 6:06 Russia – Gopnik 6:46 SUMMARY - Racaille as true Frenchmen possesses a flawless style. They prefer Lacoste, wear Lacoste belt bags, and think that the height of style is pants tucked into socks. - In America, poor white people are often shortly called ”white-trash.” This term goes back to the 1820s and allegedly was invented by African Americans to disparage local poor white people. - The term “chav” came from a Romani word “chavvi,” which means “a child.” Chavs live in poor suburban districts. London traffic is too heavy for them. - Yankii are working-class Japanese youngsters. They are not tough guys like the yakuza, of course. But they are famous for being loud, rude, and refusing to take part in the strict manners of Japanese culture. - Tapori are street thugs from Mumbai. Their motto is "Milking a dummy is saint." That's why their main activity is hustling tourists. - Cani is very easy to spot a Southern-Spanish thug: they look as if they’ve just robbed a pawnshop, wearing multiple rings, gold chains, and other accessories. They like to listen to loud music on public transport, always playing club music out loud. - “Ned” is actually a short version for “non-educated delinquent.” Neds live in the poorer areas of Scottish suburbs. Unlike their English counterparts, these gentlemen are very aggressive, and they can drink huge amounts of alcohol with very little effect. - Arsim is a unique phenomenon in thug subculture because they are mostly religious. They often prefer national headwear to the standard baseball cap. - In the past, Zefs were wealthy but uneducated snobs who drove Ford Zephyrs. Then they degraded, but they still try to demonstrate style and wealth. - A Russian gopnik is a small predator of the criminal world. Gopniks also usually come from the dysfunctional background. They often spend their time squatting in groups and drinking beer. Do you know any other interesting facts about low-class gangs in your country? Tell us in the comment section below. Does 'Power Dressing' Actually Work?

03:17
Dressing up to feel powerful may have been a fashion fad of the 1980s, but do we still think differently if we wear formal clothes? Learn more at HowStuffWorks.com: http://money.howstuffworks.com/busine... Share on Facebook: https://goo.gl/fkNE01 Share on Twitter: https://goo.gl/f012Ql Subscribe: http://goo.gl/ZYI7Gt Visit our site: http://www.brainstuffshow.com Well hello there BrainStuff. I’m Cristen Conger and I’ve got a question for you. Do I look powerful? 'Cause I feel powerful! Some people even think that what you wear (especially feminist sweatshirts) can produce this kind of confidence. So what is this so-called “power dressing?” And does it actually work? To answer that question we have to take a trip to the smooth 1970s, when a guy named John Molloy came out with a series of books about “dressing for success.” For men, Molloy recommended conservative business attire that was high-quality and fit well. Essentially, a business suit in a dark hue, with a modest white shirt and tie. Think Don Draper. For women, he adapted this uniform to include a skirted suit, and a soft blouse with floppy or bowed neck piece. Think Margaret Thatcher. In order to achieve the kind of authority of The Iron Lady, Molloy recommended women do two things. Don’t look like a secretary, and don’t look too sexy. Because of course women should protect themselves from their own sexual objectification! You couldn’t wear waistcoats or contoured jackets, according to Molloy, because they drew attention to the bust. Scarves were popular because they drew attention to the face and away from the breasts. It's all about distraction, you see! And floral prints and feminine colors like salmon pink were out. But you didn’t want to look too masculine either, hence the skirts instead of trousers. This was the birth of “power dressing.” And by the 1980s, it became the way “enterprising” women learned to manage or limit the potential sexuality of their bodies and leave all that gross girl stuff like cooties at home. But as they entered the corporate workforce in ever-greater numbers, some women wanted to modify this uniform while maintaining their professional appearance. One alternative model for breaking out of these fashion limitations was Princess Diana, with her more glamorous outfits. Others were on TV, in shows like “Dynasty,” “Designing Women” and “Moonlighting.” Enter broad shoulder pads, wide lapels and a wider range of textures, colors and accessories. Cut to present day! Most of these fashion fads have come and gone, but you can still see their influence on politicians, for example. Take Hillary Clinton. Or Donald Trump. Many of the tenets of power dressing are still in play today, we just don’t call it that anymore. But a 2015 study re-examined the principles behind power dressing. It found that putting on formal clothing does indeed make us feel powerful and even makes us think differently. The authors of this study tested student participants in a series of experiments by rating their outfits and taking cognitive tests. When the students switched out of sweatpants and into the kind of clothing they thought they should wear to a job interview, the tests showed their cognitive processing became more abstract, broader and holistic. The authors also say that how often you actually wear formal clothes doesn’t matter. Regardless of when you wear it, these uniforms have become a symbol of power. SOURCES: Schaefer, J. O. (2015). Why Prince Harry's fiancée is now the most powerful woman in fashion ?| LMT News

LMT News: Meghan Markle the Style Princess: Why Prince Harry's fiancée is now the most powerful woman in fashion. Mere seconds after Meghan Markle steps out of a car, one stiletto-clad foot after the other, she sets in motion an extraordinary chain reaction across the globe. Fashion bloggers frantically identify every garment she’s wearing — from her jeans to her jewellery — ringing designers, ateliers and stores from Cardiff to Canada. Once those details are posted online, shops, from exclusive Stella McCartney to Marks & Spencer, are bombarded by shoppers desperate to get Meghan’s look. The outcome is always the same. Every item Meghan is wearing sells out, usually within minutes, sometimes seconds, of her appearance — cheaper copycat items, too. Websites frequently crash under the strain. Few other style icons wield such incredible power in the fashion world — not even the Duchess of Cambridge. Kate adds an estimated £1 billion to the British fashion industry annually, but in the latest issue of Vogue, editor Edward Enninful says her soon-to-be-sister-in-law could eclipse her: ‘Ms Markle is an astonishing fashion sales force, who is setting the industry alight.’ So what is it about Meghan that makes her wardrobe so covetable and sends clothes flying, quite literally, off the shelves? Fashion experts in Toronto, Meghan’s home for the six years between 2011 and 2017 when she was filming legal drama Suits, all use the same expression, ‘effortless chic’, to describe her style. ‘She always looks like she’s not trying,’ says John Muscat, founder of Line The Label, the Canadian brand behind the £750 white wrap coat Meghan wore to mark her engagement to Prince Harry last November. 03:55
If you're new, Subscribe! → https://bit.ly/2AHMTPt The Duchess of Cambridge is still the most powerful royal fashion influencer - but Meghan is hot on her heels at number two. Kate, 36, is most likely to convince shoppers in the US to buy products by British brands, according to a new report. She is followed by Meghan in second place, with Prince Harry and Prince William in third and fourth respectively. Meanwhile, the survey found Kate is the most liked UK 'icon' in the US, followed by the Duke of Sussex and singer Adele - with the Duchess of Sussex in fourth place. According to Brand Finance's British Luxury 2018 survey, Kate wearing a product  increases the desirability among 38 per cent of US shoppers. The report found Meghan, 37, improves the desirability by 35 per cent, with Harry, 34, increasing a brand's prospects by 32 per cent. It comes after a number of items worn by the Duchess of Sussex on her first major royal tour have quickly sold out, including the £89 & Other Stories polka dot dress she wore on Fraser Island.Meanwhile, the Duchess of Cambridge's £159 Whistles dress, which she wore at a Kensington Palace reception last week, has also sold out.  The report found both Kate and Meghan have a 'golden touch' when it comes to transforming the success of a brand. One of the brands that has benefited is Goat, a brand that Kate has worn on a number of occasions. The British label was also worn by Meghan at a Buckingham Palace garden party celebrating Prince Charles' 70th birthday, just days after her wedding in May.Kalpa Shah, managing director of Goat, said: 'The planets really did align for us when the Duchess of Sussex wore one of our dresses at Prince Charles’ birthday... all eyes were still on her.  'And people wanted to see the bride after the wedding, the impact for Goat was magnified simply because of the timing.'  The impact royals have on US shoppers  The Duchess of Cambridge - increases desirability by 38%The Duchess of Sussex -  increases desirability by 35%Prince Harry -  increases desirability by 32%Prince William -  increases desirability by 27%  She added: 'We get an uplift straight away... [Kate and Meghan] have both been amazing at putting us on the radar of such a huge amount of people, because of their profile.'  Commenting on the report, Alex Haigh, director of Brand Finance, said: 'The monarchy is one of the most defining features of Brand Britain and the royal impact on the desirability of British luxury brands cannot be overstated. 'Endorsement by any royal, but particularly the Duchesses, is like the mythical golden touch and can transform a brand’s performance overnight.'

10:05
when fashion meets technology, fashion look like Devel Sixteen - The Most Powerful & Fastest Supercar Ever Produced - Dubai’s Devel taken aback the world four years in the past when it introduced plans for a five,000-horsepower, V-sixteen-powered automobile capable of speeds over 300 mph(500 km in step with hour). At the time, the organisation rolled out a crudely constructed prototype that regarded like it was swiftly put together in a again shed someplace. It goes without announcing that we had been skeptical. The supercar was unveiled on the 2017 Dubai motor display . Devel is growing three awesome variations of the car, even though even the entry-stage model may have a V-8 producing 2,000 horsepower. Think of this one as the model aimed toward street use. A extra hardcore version, also with a V-eight, could be the following rung up the ladder. This one will have three,000 hp and is geared toward music enthusiasts. Subscribe to Journeyman for daily uploads: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures In the slums of Manila, a determined group of women are literally turning rags to riches. In a city where the gap between rich and poor is clear to see, this pioneering new project brings the two closer together. Taking leftover fabric from clothing factories before weaving them into rugs and handbags, 'Rags to Riches' products have become the latest fashion accessory in Manila's high-end malls. It's founder, 27 year old Reese Fernandez, says her business works to "empower women" in the local community, "bringing back the dignity of the people" The women, many of whom used to live on a rubbish dump, now earn an income comparable to that of a nurse in the Philippines. Fashion's naked truths | The Economist

01:47
Half of all clothes are thrown away within one year—many have never been worn. The industry's obsession with fast fashion comes with a steep environmental price tag. Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy Fashion is one of the fastest-growing industries on the planet. Around the world eighty billion new pieces of clothing are sold every year - 400% more than just forty years ago. Americans alone are buying five times more garments than in 1980. Now a $1.3 trillion mega industry, fashion employs more than 300 million people worldwide. While other industries have come apart at the seams, clothing production has doubled in the last 15 years. But it's a fashion statement with a steep environmental price tag - making one kilogram of fabric produces 23 kilograms of greenhouse gases. Textile production generates more carbon dioxide than all international flights and maritime shipping combined. Yet half of all clothes are thrown away within one year - many having never been worn. Fashion is now considered the second most polluting industry in the world after oil. And with increasing middle classes in the developing world keen to make their own fashion statement, this will get worse. If 80 percent of emerging markets reach Western levels of clothes shopping, carbon dioxide emissions could increase by nearly 80% per person. By 2050 total clothing sales could reach 175 million tons - turning the planet into the biggest fashion victim of them all. U.S. Military's Most Powerful Cannon - Electromagnetic Railgun - Shoots 100 miles - Mach 7

07:42
The U.S. Navy is tapping the power of the Force (of Star Wars fame) to wage war. Its latest weapon is an electromagnetic railgun launcher. It uses a form of electromagnetic energy known as the Lorentz force to hurl a 23-pound projectile at speeds exceeding Mach 7. Engineers already have tested this futuristic weapon on land, and the Navy plans to begin sea trials aboard a Joint High Speed Vessel Millinocket in 2016. “The electromagnetic railgun represents an incredible new offensive capability for the U.S. Navy,” Rear Adm. Bryant Fuller, the Navy’s chief engineer, said in a statement. “This capability will allow us to effectively counter a wide range of threats at a relatively low cost, while keeping our ships and sailors safer by removing the need to carry as many high-explosive weapons.” The massive railgun that needs just one sailor to operate it relies on the electromagnetic energy of the Lorentz force—the combination of electric and magnetic forces on a point charge—for power. The Navy likes the weapon for several reasons, not the least of which it has a range of 100 miles and doesn’t require explosive warheads. That makes it far safer for sailors, and cheaper for taxpayers. According to the Navy, each 18-inch projectile costs about $25,000, compared to $500,000 to $1.5 million for conventional missiles. “[It] will give our adversaries a huge moment of pause to go: ‘Do I even want to go engage a naval ship?’” Rear Admiral Matt Klunder told reporters. “Because you are going to lose. You could throw anything at us, frankly, and the fact that we now can shoot a number of these rounds at a very affordable cost, it’s my opinion that they don’t win.” The Navy’s been talking about using railguns for the past ten years. The Office of Naval Research launched a prototype program in 2005, with an initial investment of $250 million committed through 2011. The Navy anticipates spending about that much more by 2017. Of course the Army is interested in having one too, and the Pentagon is in general interested in many aspects of the technology. In July, the Navy will display the electromagnetic railgun prototype at San Diego Naval Base. “Frankly, we think it might be the right time for them to know what we’ve been doing behind closed doors in a Star Wars fashion,” said Klunder. “It’s now reality. It’s not science fiction. It’s real and you can look at it.”

Meghan Markle ‘among biggest royal FASHION INFLUENCERS’ but is not as powerful as Diana

03:11
Meghan Markle ‘among biggest royal FASHION INFLUENCERS’ but is not as powerful as Diana MEGHAN Markle is one of the biggest royal fashion influencers but is not as powerful as Princess Diana, global fashion search platform Lyst has claimed.. The platform put together an analysis of current data that combined historical insights and anecdotes about the royal women to find out who has delivered the biggest impact on fashion style trends. Last editor Charlotte Austin stated: “Forget the Kardashians or the Hadids; the Windsors are the ultimate fashion influencer family. “At Lyst we're used to looking into real time, reactive spikes in search and sales when a celebrity influencer wears a fashion brand.” Despite the incredible style impact the American has had since she first appeared with Prince Harry at the Invictus Games in Toronto, the company believes that Princess Diana is still the greatest “trend setter”. Ms Austin went on: “While we're seeing phenomenal spikes in demand for all things Meghan-endorsed right now, Diana's lasting legacy as a trend setter and continual source of inspiration for generations of designers and fashion lovers makes The Diana Effect an incredibly powerful fashion force. “Based on our research, we believe Princess Diana is the most powerful royal fashion influencer of all time. “For this project we wanted to investigate the longer term 'ripple effect' of fashion trends endorsed by the royals over the years." The 36-year-old’s “power coat” is one of the biggest factors for her style influences. The bride-to-be sported a white coat from Line The Label when the the world found out her and Prince Harry were engaged. After being photographed with the coat alongside her future husband, the fashion item sold out within 12 hours. The future royal also wore a Burberry coat during an appearance in Edinburgh - following the engagement internet searches for the brand’s coats spiked by 120 per cent in the next two days.. Meanwhile, Princess Diana set fashion trends of her own - she wore a Christina Stambolian little black dress (LBD) that is seen as responsible for huge amounts of online dress searches today. Lyst detailed it receives 500,000 searches for LBDs a month. The Duchess of Cambridge has also had an astonishing impact on the fashion world. he royal is estimated to generate more than £1billion a year for the UK fashion industry. Meghan Markle will marry Prince Harry on May 19. The event is set to take place at Windsor Castle in St George’s Chapel..
