What materials do you mainly use for your drawings? In general, I use Copic Ciao markers and Touch Twin Markers, Quill Multiboard A4 white paper, 2B and HB Pentel and Faber-Castell 0.5 mechanical pencil and Faber-Castell PVC-Free Space Eraser (Cool name) and I use Uni-ball Signo white fineliner 2. Did you go to any art school or academy? No. I took Studio Arts in senior high school. It's not from that class that I learned evreything I know. I did learn new things from the class, but not to do with fashion illustration or manga drawings. I went to a regular high school, so it doesn't specialize in art. 3. How do you draw the models? Do you use any templates? I started out by tracing models from magazines which is harder than it sounds, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. Then of course, I searched all types of videos on YouTube and some sites as well on Google, which unfortunately, I don't remember. How I learned to draw my models is using the 9-Head technique. 4. How old are you? I am now 19 years old 5. How long have you been drawing? I'm pretty sure I started drawing at 6. That's probably my oldest memory of me drawing. I got into manga drawings when I was 11 years old, I started teaching myself how to draw manga when I was 13 years old. I started developing an interest in fashion design also when I was 11, but I pursued that interest or taken it further at the age of 14. So, I would say I started drawing fashion illustration at the age of 14. 6. Where do you get your inspiration? I get my inspiration from music, photos on Instagram, Tumblr fashion trends, things that I love. There are times where I am just in an Artist's Block and I feel really brain dead where I can't draw. Or I force myself to draw and it never turns out to be something that I like. 7. Do you have any links or books you can recommend? Definitely! Fashion Illustration by Anna Kiper and Fashion Poses for Fashion Illustrators by Sha Tahmasebi are two books that I own at the moment. I'm hoping to get more. These two books are very helpful if you're a beginner or even if you want to be a bit more advanced. MUSIC: Brittle Rille by Kevin MacLeod NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED

Adobe Illustrator Fashion Design Tutorial: Recolor Flat Sketches (including repeating patterns)

09:14
In this Illustrator fashion design tutorial, you'll learn the EASIEST and QUICKEST way to recolor your fashion flat sketches using a very simple trick that most advanced designers don't know. You can (literally) recolor an entire presentation board or line sheet of drawings with just a few clicks. It's a really handy trick when you need to update a few Pantone swatches or want to globally change the hue or saturation of a few colors. Best part? It works with repeating pattern swatches too, and will automatically create a new swatch colorway for you. BOOM! Download the free support file to follow along: http://sewheidi.com/videos/how-to-recolor-artwork-in-illustrator-pattern-swatches-too/ You will learn: 00:29 How to recolor pattern swatches and brushes 01:10 How to diagnose the recolor dialog box if weird colors appear 05:50 How to recolor black and white colors in your artwork *************** Further your fashion design career by gaining confidence in AI - I'll show you exactly how in my free Ultimate Guide to Illustrator for Fashion: http://bit.ly/sfd-ug-ai Visit the Website: http://bit.ly/sfd-yt Like on Facebook: http://bit.ly/sewheidi-fb Follow on Pinterest: http://bit.ly/sewheidi-pin

What Are Spec & Line Sheets / Flats? | Fashion Sketching

01:24
Watch more How to Draw Fashion Sketches videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/501958-What-Are-Spec-and-Line-Sheets-Flats-Fashion-Sketching Learn about spec and line sheets / flats from fashion designer Garo Sparo in this Howcast video. Something that's really important when you come to the point of putting your line out on the market, if you're so lucky, is you're eventually going to have to do technical drawings of your pieces, so that the buyers can just like flip through a bunch of line sheets, they're called, and buy what they want. All the details have to be very apparent, they need to be drawn very flat. So as you can see on this page, these are all of my cincture belts and corsets that I offer at my studio. There's pages and pages of them, but I won't bother to flip through. But as you can see, all of the details are very hard lines. This one has a certain closure in the front, this is showing its bones here, there, and there. This is showing that it definitely has a seam line there, and this is the exact shape of this corset. You also have your style numbers, so that your buyer is going to know what they're buying, and be able to call it in and be like, I need ten dozen of CD8, if you're so lucky. So that's the importance of technical drawings, fashion flats, line sheets, whatever you want to call them, they're very important in fashion illustration.

iPad Pro and Apple Pencil for Fashion Design and Pattern Drafting

14:38
Yes I did figure out how to rename the file right after I uploaded the video. Can you imagine sitting on a bus and drafting a pattern straight on your iPad? Or waiting at the doctors office and getting some design work done without having to bring a laptop and a tablet with you? Hi! I'm super excited about this video because in it I will be demoing just a few of the things the iPad pro is capable of, along with a short tutorial on how to digitize the basic bodice block with the Graphic app available in the App Store. I briefly go over the Concepts app as well, a drawing app that I use for fashion sketches. The main focus here is showing off what the iPad pro can do in terms of digitizing and drafting. Get the Concepts app for free, or the pro version for $7.99, and the Graohic app, formerly known as iDraw, for $8.99. Stay tuned as I learn more about drafting with the iPad pro and it's available apps.

Nice to meet you, I’m Heidi. I teach fashion designers like you the real world skills you *actually* need to learn to succeed in this cutthroat industry. (You know, all the stuff you don’t learn at fashion school.) I’ve worked as a contract designer for over a decade and run SuccessfulFashionDesigner.com. I’ve been able to make a healthy living doing work I love in fashion. But I got started just like you, one step at a time. It began with some embarrassing hand sewn dresses and fashion sketches that would make a 3-year-old’s artwork look like a masterpiece. Then, things changed. I learned how design was done on a large scale. I learned how to get things into production. And I learned all the skills I wish I knew when I was first starting out. Now, I dedicate most of my time teaching you all of that.
