Jigsaw puzzles for kids are superb educational tools. Gibsons have a super jigsaw puzzle called 'My Body' that teaches kids about the human body. Check out Beau's highlights from the Toy Fair 2015 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YeQjqjcZ8c
Today we're going to take a look at what you get inside the box of this jigsaw puzzle for kids made by Gibsons.
We caught up with Gibsons who had a stand at the Toy Fair 2015 in London this year. Gibsons make educational games and puzzles. At their stand we could see many other puzzle sets such as My Dominoes, Dino Jigosawrus, Ships Ahoy, My Wheels, My Farm Animals to name just a few... all based around the 'My World' theme.
Gibsons were kind enough to let Beau have a jigsaw puzzle set called 'My Body' for him to play with and review which he will do on his show this weekend.
A nice touch is on the box itself there's a slot on the top that encourages kids to post the jigsaw pieces back into the box when they've finished with them.
On the back there's lots of additional educational information that you wouldn't normally find with a standard jigsaw puzzle.
Recommended by child experts such as psychologist Dr. Amanda Gummer, the set has also won a Mum's Choice award recognised for being one of the top 5 games and puzzles for children.
It's worth mentioning that there are two puzzles in one with this set. Either you can put together a 36 piece puzzle or the larger 50 piece. This allows your child to progress at putting jigsaws together and at the same time, having fun learning fun facts about the inside and outside of the body.
The jigsaw pieces themselves are good quality and designed for durability.
The leaflet contains additional information about other puzzles and games in the 'My World' collection and the educational benefits they bring to your child's development.
And that's it for this unboxing. Don't forget to tune in this weekend when Beau will have a go at putting this jigsaw puzzle together - let's see how quickly he can do it... and we'll see what happened when he met up with another boy at the Gibson's stand, Dr Ruben!
Also, the legendary Mr Michael Gibson who remains the company's chairman himself talks to Beau about his company's games and puzzles.
So what's the history of this company? Gibsons Games is an independent, family owned British board game and jigsaw puzzle manufacturer, and the oldest of its kind in the United Kingdom. In 1903, Harry Gibson managed to obtain an unsecured loan of £500 from the Royal Bank of Scotland in Bishopsgate, London.
This generous sum enabled him to start a business, which at that time was called The International Card Co. Trading from offices in Aldersgate Street, he supplied retailers with a range of products including card games and postcards; an unlikely combination these days, but back then, most towns would have a number of stationers in the High Street and they became Harry Percy’s first customers.
The International Card business was sold to the De La Rue Company and H. P. Gibson & Sons Limited was formed in 1919.
The International Series brand continued to be used on some products right up to the early 1980s, but H P Gibson & Sons Ltd made its name with the ‘HPG’ brand of indoor games, with old favourites such as L’Attaque and Dover Patrol; huge sellers before and after the Second World War. Sadly the company’s premises, along with all its manufacturing equipment were destroyed during the blitz in 1940 and when the war ended, it was almost a case of starting from scratch. Robert and Harry Gibson (jnr.), sons of the founder, re-established trading from Barrett Street in London’s West End.
The company continued to sell its own family games and pastimes, alongside ranges from other established names, including Waddingtons and Chad Valley. 1966 Harry Percy’s grandson, Michael Gibson joined the family business.
He remembers his father paying him £11.00 a week out of which he had to pay his mother living expenses.
Gibsons originally had only six puzzle pictures in the range which depicted aerial shots of well-known British landmarks, but nowadays, the range has grown to over 250 titles, running from 2 to 2000 pieces, with over 50 new jigsaw puzzle images added every year.
Gibsons have a broad selection of products for all the family including games and puzzles suitable for pre-school to big school and beyond!
