This collection of songs continues on the path where the late 2012 debut album Movements In Season ended, with large, lush atmospheres and open textures. Ambient music has always been able to create opportunities for listeners to interpret emotions in a variety of ways, and any one song can mean something so different from one set of ears to the next. For Chris, inspiration for these songs arrives in a similar fashion. It comes from all sorts of angles - love and friendship, hope and doubt, life and death. Residents of Minnesota know the drastic difference of the four calendar seasons all too well. Summer in the "land of 10,000 lakes" is overwhelmingly beautiful, while winter is, to say the least, frigid. While certainly bound to be diverse in interpretation, Release was originally inspired by the many Minnesota winters Chris has experienced. It is the first of a double album. A 'spring' version will follow, after a predictably chilled few months. The album opens with the expansive, airy four-and-a-half minute crescendo titled "We Can All Be New." The listener is encouraged to become lost in the grand calm of spacious vocals, guitars, and sampled atmospheres. This leads to an immediate transition with the second track, "Small Hands," which was written in anticipation of Chris' and his wife's first child, who will join them in the spring. The simple piano piece is reminiscent of any number of calming neo-classical songs or minimalist film scores. .... read more at http://elskavon.com ● ● ● Album artwork photo by Anton Novoselov.

Modern Electronic and Classical Music | Peter Lu | TEDxNewarkAcademy
Electronic music seeks to expand the musical world by using the latest technology available. However, this isn’t a novel idea: classical artists have done the same for centuries by introducing new instruments and musical styles, occasionally subjecting themselves to harsh criticism. Throughout his career, Beethoven’s work was described as “a gross enormity,” and “a daring wild fantasia of inordinate length.” Today, despite electronic music’s increasing popularity, it is nevertheless not as well-respected when compared to other genres. Peter’s talk identifies the deep connections between the two, explaining how electronic music has risen over the past decade to establish itself as one of the most popular genres worldwide. Peter Lu has attended Newark Academy since 2012 and has been a classical musician all his life. He began studying piano when he was four years old, going on to become an accomplished violinist, guitarist, and singer. Peter listens to varied genres of music and enjoys sharing his passion with others. In addition to performing, he has written musical arrangements for a cappella groups, rock bands, and - most recently - a wind ensemble. An enthusiastic student, Peter is always willing to lend a hand and is often a familiar face at many school functions. His favorite subjects are math, Spanish, and chemistry. In his spare time, Peter is dedicated to cross-country, likes to cook, and never misses an opportunity to catch a new movie with friends. Peter often volunteers his time in retirement homes and local schools to give back to the community. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at http://ted.com/tedx

Funk, As Digested by a Classical Musician
As a classical musician, I haven't been exposed to much funk until very recently, and I had fun getting to the know the genre this week. I break down some of the ways I digested my initial understanding of funk music, and write/perform an original piece influenced by this style. Thank you to Paul Boos for suggesting this idea. It is also the second installment of a double album, the follow-up to 2013's Release. The contrast and growth of the sound from Release to Reveal is certainly intentional. This is the first Elskavon album that introduces drums and percussion, and touches on a more ethereal post-rock style, while still behind an ambient wash. Most of the Elskavon albums are written and recorded by Chris alone in the studio, but he sought out some collaboration this time around. Bjorn Nilsen, good friend and Bora York bandmate of Chris', recorded acoustic drums for "Imprints," "Letting Go" and "April Rain." Another aspect of collaboration, the album artwork was again a photo by Anton Novoselov. Anton's photos have been used for both Release and Reveal, and the transition from night to day in these photos coincides with the musical style progression. While Chris finds inspiration for these songs from many aspects and facets of life, the root love of making music for him comes down to one question. Are you alive? Are you living each day alive, free, passionate? Enjoying the passing moments while also living in anticipation for something greater? Are you living for something greater than yourself? Are you living each day in an identity that gives you life or an identity that tears you down? .... read more at http://anthemfallsmusic.com/elskavon ● ● ● SOCIAL • http://facebook.com/elskavon • http://twitter.com/elskavon • http://instagram.com/elskavonmusic • http://instagram.com/hificali ● ● ● Album artwork photo by Anton Novoselov.

How and why classical musicians feel rhythm differently
COMMENT RESPONSE VIDEO HERE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZJzjCiC1No Support me on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/adamneely Rhythm is treated very differently in classical music from the sharp precision that other musics might require - it's organic and fluid. Recognizing this difference and being sensitive to the nature of rhythm itself in different contexts is important if you're trying to bridge gaps between different styles of musicianship. I recognize also that I come off as pompous and harsh sometimes with my critiques of - the musicians who played on inside//outside's record were absolutely phenomenal and had to learn and record the music in a very short amount of time. What they did was, quite frankly, incredible, and of the highest professional standard. The Best Classical Music Themes MIX ( modern interpretation)
...and classical for all (part 1)....Screenplay by Alex.....Mozart,Beethoven,Bach,Vivaldi & Co. Popular perception has it that if you listened to classical music, you are either way too snobbish, or you downright boring. But then, that’s popular perception and it need not always be right....it is time we acknowledge classical music’s value in our own unique ways.

E Aural Trainer - Recognising the style and period of a piece of music - Grades 5-8 Aural
Want a DISTINCTION in YOUR next ABRSM Exam? https://www.music-online.org.uk/2019/01/how-to-get-distinction-in-abrsm-exams.html The four main periods which you will be expected to identify are Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Modern and each of them have distinguishing characteristics which you will learn in this video Baroque music was very elaborate, often with many ornaments, the melodies would be difficult to sing or memorise and the harmony was created by individual voices conversing with each other - known as polyphonic harmony. Because baroque music was originally for the harpsichord and not the piano, the dynamic range is not as great as in later periods and also the keyboard was shorter - very high or very low notes were not possible. Regarding dynamics these tended to be terraced, that is crescendos and decrescendos were not used, rather there were more sudden changes. Classical music on the other hand was much more refined and simple, the melodies could be easily remembered and sung and the harmonies were generally made by a tune with simple accompaniment - know as homophonic harmony. Phrases were clearly defined and regular. The idea of crescendo and diminuendo also came into use during the classical period. In the Romantic period, melodies were still singable and easily memorable, but the intensity of emotion was much greater. Harmonies became richer, texture thicker and dynamic range much wider. Tempo was much freer and the use of the sustain pedal was now very prevalent in this period. Modern music (20th/ 21st Century music) is easily recognised by its discordant use of harmony. That said, 20th century music also includes jazz and impressionism, the later being the style of composers such as Debussy in which the music often has a blurry misty feel giving an “impression” of something rather than a dramatic picture of that thing. -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "STOP PRESS - Sample Papers for the NEW style ABRSM Music Theory Papers AVAILABLE NOW!!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZX0gKgma2M -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Nina Burmi sings Thumri | Vocal and tabla | Indian Classical Music
#darbarfestival | Nina Burmi uses her smooth three-octave vocal range to explore the thumri style - a semi-classical genre intimately connected with dance, poetry, and drama. |*| Explore the finest Indian classical music and dance by signing up to our newsletter at: http://www.darbar.org/newsletter, and watch full length exclusive concerts in pristine HD on the Darbar Player: http://www.darbar.org/darbarplayer --------------------------------------------------------------------- Learn more about the music: Thumri is a sensuous ‘light classical’ style, originating in Uttar Pradesh. The word is derived from the Hindi ‘thumakna’, meaning ‘to walk with dancing steps so as to make the ankle-bells tinkle’, and the genre remains closely connected with dance and drama. Ragas are treated more flexibly, and songs are often devotional, romantic, or even erotic in nature. Lyrics have a central role, often being based on folk tales or classical poetry, and commonly depicting the separation of lovers, or myths of Lord Krishna. Nina Burmi sings in the Kirana gharana style, tackling khayal, thumri, bhajan, and other forms. Currently living in the UK, she trained under the esteemed husband-wife pairing of Dilshad Khan and Parveen Sultana, and combines the latter’s wide vocal range with a more sparsely ornamented approach. In this song she is joined by top accompanists, with lyrics describing the tension and sorrow of a lover who is separated from Lord Krishna. Recorded for Darbar Festival 2006 -Nina Burmi (vocal) -Ramesh Mishra (sarangi) -Sanju Sahai (tabla) Darbar believes in the power of Indian classical arts to stir, thrill and inspire. "The Challenges of Modernist Music" with Charles Rosen
The first lecture of the series will be given by Charles Rosen, celebrated pianist and writer upon whom President Barack Obama conferred the National Humanities Medal in early 2012. Rosen is the author of the acclaimed The Classical Style, a frequent contributor to The New York Review of Books, and a passionate advocate of new music. He will assess the impact of contemporary music in the 21st century, exploring issues such as the role of public and private institutions, the responsibility of education in keeping the arts alive, the divide between commercial popular music and the concert experience, and the challenges of art's accessibility from the 18th century until today.

Classical Music Fails
A compilation of (mostly) classical music fails. Conductors losing batons, cell phone disruptions, and much more! I don't claim any of these clips as my own. All of them were previously published on YouTube and all credit is due their original uploaders. Please enjoy! NOTE: There is now a part 2! I never thought I would find enough clips for a second edition of this, but YouTube never fails to surprise me. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XfR6jQvvs4

Gubanova & Strauss - in Fm (modern classical music)
Katarina Gubanova & Winfried Strauss - in Fm (modern classical music) The underlining difference in my style is that I participate in the original projects that are often a fusion of music, performance, and art where the lines are blurred and the categories are vague and undefined. I think about myself as an artist and composer who breaks conventions of traditional approach to neo-classics and piano performances. So, enjoy my new collaboration! I am playing on an old Grotrian-Steinweg grand piano from the Weimar Republic and my friend Winfried playing on an Arturia Minibrute analogue synthesizer. And notice: this is FULL LIVE IMPROVISATION, not prepared track

"Faith" Modern Classical Music
This is a song about the courageousness of unwavering faith. -- This is an improvisation. This video is a repost of the one I uploaded on Saturday -- I realized that the previous version had cut off the last note short, so I wanted to re-upload to add on two seconds to the end. Thanks everyone who commented - I saved all the comments, see below. As you pass through the journey of life, there will come moments where your core beliefs, your most fundamental values, will be tested to the point of extreme conflict. When these moments happen, what will you do - will you succumb to worldly temptation and temporary relief, or will you stand firm in the face of adversary, and instead of backing down, you muster your willpower and forge ahead into the horizon. And you do this because without your values and your beliefs, you are nothing. Perspective is everything, and you will die rather than to give up the things that matter most. -- The MP3 to this song and "Vengeance" will be given free to those who contribute any amount to my campaign, in addition to rewards already listed. Thank you everyone who's donated so far, I'm amazed and so appreciative of the support. -- Visit my website for sheet music, midis, mp3s and more: http://www.musicalbasics.com/ Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/musicalbasicsmusic/ MusicalBasics on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/musicalbasics/id426144343 -- Comments on previous video (which is deleted now - thanks everyone!): • I love your music very much, and one day I showed one on my friends (who is very good at playing piano) your channel. A meeting between two different arts, different historical periods, different people" This has been a very unique collaboration for me since i got the opportunity to work directly with a musician and because of the music genre which was a unknown territory to me before this project i had to explore a new type of movement pattern In this PROMO video you can see the process and the result of this piece. A meeting has already been performed live and can be arranged through Nino Dance&Entertainment. FOR BOOKING: [email protected] www.ninohellman.se
