The Navy still conducts burials at sea
It may seem like an antiquated practice, but for many of our nation's sailors, a Navy burial at sea is a rite of passage – to the great beyond, at least. After bidding a beloved Navy veteran "fair winds and following seas," you can have their remains interred beneath the water they loved so much. The Navy will absolutely take care of the hardest part of this process for you. There are just a few simple rules to follow. Worlds MOST FEARED !!! US Navy SEALS promo video
A great promotional video of the US Navy SEALS. The United States Navy's Sea, Air, Land Teams, commonly known as the Navy SEALs, are the U.S. Navy's principal special operations force and a part of the Naval Special Warfare Command and United States Special Operations Command.[3] The SEALs' duty is to conduct small-unit maritime military operations which originate from, and return to a river, ocean, swamp, delta, or coastline. SEALs can negotiate shallow water areas such as the Persian Gulf coastline, where large ships and submarines are limited due to depth.[4] "SEAL" is always capitalized in reference to members of the Naval Special Warfare community. The Navy SEALs are trained to operate in all environments (Sea, Air, and Land) for which they are named. SEALs are also prepared to operate in a variety of climates, such as desert, arctic, and jungle. All SEALs are male members of the United States Navy.[4][5][6][7] The CIA's highly secretive Special Activities Division (SAD) and more specifically its elite Special Operations Group (SOG) recruits operators from the SEAL Teams.[8] Joint Navy SEALs and CIA operations go back to the MACV-SOG during the Vietnam War.[9] This cooperation still exists today and is seen in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.[10][11] History[edit] This section needs additional citations for verification. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed. (November 2013) Origins[edit] The modern day U.S. Navy SEALs can trace their roots to World War II.[4] The United States Navy recognized the need for the covert reconnaissance of landing beaches and coastal defenses. As a result, the Amphibious Scout and Raider School was established in 1942 at Fort Pierce, Florida.[7] The Scouts and Raiders were formed in September of that year, just nine months after the attack on Pearl Harbor, from the Observer Group, a joint U.S. Army-Marine-Navy unit Scouts and Raiders[edit] Recognizing the need for a beach reconnaissance force, a select group of Army and Navy personnel assembled at Amphibious Training Base Little Creek, Virginia on August 15, 1942 to begin Amphibious Scouts and Raiders (joint) training. The Scouts and Raiders mission was to identify and reconnoiter the objective beach, maintain a position on the designated beach prior to a landing, and guide the assault waves to the landing beach.[4] The first group included Phil H. Bucklew, the "Father of Naval Special Warfare," after whom the Naval Special Warfare Center building is named. Commissioned in October 1942, this group saw combat in November 1942 during Operation Torch on the North African coast. Scouts and Raiders also supported landings in Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, Normandy, and southern France.[12] A second group of Scouts and Raiders, code-named Special Service Unit No. 1, was established on 7 July 1943, as a joint and combined operations force. The first mission, in September 1943, was at Finschafen on New Guinea. Later operations were at Gasmata, Arawe, Cape Gloucester, and the East and South coast of New Britain, all without any loss of personnel. Conflicts arose over operational matters, and all non-Navy personnel were reassigned. The unit, renamed 7th Amphibious Scouts, received a new mission, to go ashore with the assault boats, buoy channels, erect markers for the incoming craft, handle casualties, take offshore soundings, clear beach obstacles and maintain voice communications linking the troops ashore, incoming boats and nearby ships. The 7th Amphibious Scouts conducted operations in the Pacific for the duration of the conflict, participating in more than 40 landings.[4] The third and final Scouts and Raiders organization operated in China. Scouts and Raiders were deployed to fight with the Sino-American Cooperative Organization, or SACO. To help bolster the work of SACO, Admiral Ernest J. King ordered that 120 officers and 900 men be trained for "Amphibious Raider" at the Scout and Raider school at Fort Pierce, Florida. They formed the core of what was envisioned as a "guerrilla amphibious organization of Americans and Chinese operating from coastal waters, lakes and rivers employing small steamboats and sampans." While most Amphibious Raider forces remained at Camp Knox in Calcutta, three of the groups saw active service. They conducted a survey of the upper Yangtze River in the spring of 1945 and, disguised as coolies, conducted a detailed three-month survey of the Chinese coast from Shanghai to Kitchioh Wan, near Hong Kong.[4] Naval Combat Demolition Units[edit] In September 1942, 17 Navy salvage personnel arrived at ATB Little Creek, VA for a week long course in demolitions, explosive cable cutting and commando raiding techniques. On November 10, 1942, the first combat demolition unit successfully cut cable and net barriers across the Wadi Sebou River during Operation Torch in North Africa.

"Swim call" is a rare treat that can sometimes be experienced on deployments out at sea. The military tradition allows sailors to take a breather and enjoy the open ocean as their own private swimming pool. US Navy warships just challenged China with a South China Sea sail-by operation. Beijing is furious
The US Navy sent two guided-missiIe destroyers to challenge China in the South China Sea, and Beijing is outraged. Two Arleigh Burke-class destroyers — the USS Spruance and the USS Preble — conducted a freedom-of-navigation operation on Monday, sailing within 12 nautical miles of Chinese outposts in the contested Spratly Islands. The purpose was "to challenge excessive maritime claims and preserve access to the waterways," as well as to show that the US "will fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows," Cmdr. Clay Doss, a US Navy 7th Fleet spokesman, told CNN. Beijing sharply criticized the operation. A spokeswoman for the Chinese foreign ministry, Hua Chunying, accused the US of entering Chinese waters without permission and engaging in provocations that threaten China's sovereignty, the South China Morning Post reported. What i do on Merchant Navy | ABLE BODIED Seamen | Life at Sea
As a member of the deck crew, an Able-bodied Seaman (AB) has a varied role on board a ship, which is often physically demanding, and by its nature, all-weather. Able Seamen, as with any seafaring role, have to balance their family and work lives as they can be at sea for long periods of time. The flipside of those prolonged stretches at sea is lengthy leave periods, which makes seafaring a unique sector to work in. Am proud to be a Seafarer. US Navy Has Put to Sea the First-ever F-35 Aircraft Carrier & It's a Big Warning to China & N. Korea
The US Navy made history on Monday by putting to sea for the first time ever an aircraft carrier with F-35B jets. And by deploying them in the Pacific, it's a message China and North Korea are sure to hear loud and clear. The US Marine Corps's Fighter Attack Squadron 121 deployed aboard the USS Wasp, a smaller-deck aircraft carrier that used to operate harrier jump jets and helicopters before getting special modifications to field the F-35. "This is a historic deployment," said Col. Tye R. Wallace, 31st MEU Commanding Officer in a US Navy press release. "The F-35B is the most capable aircraft ever to support a Marine rifleman on the ground." The deployment marks the culmination of years of planing. Since its inception, the F-35 has been designed with the idea of accommodating short takeoff, vertical landing variants. Initially, the design compromises forced by the massive tail fan and unique capabilities caused complications, compromises, and long and expensive delays.

CHINA NAVY PANIC: Two US destroyers USS Spruance & USS Preble sail in disputed South China Sea
CHINA NAVY PANIC: Two US destroyers USS Spruance & USS Preble sail in disputed South China Sea - The United States sailed two warships close to disputed islands in the South China Sea on Monday a move that is bound to draw the ire of Beijing. The guided-missile destroyers USS Spruance and USS Preble sailed within 12 nautical miles of the Spratly Islands as part of what the US Navy calls a "freedom of navigation operation." The operation was carried out "to challenge excessive maritime claims and preserve access to the waterways as governed by international law," Cmdr Clay Doss, a spokesman for the US Navy's 7th Fleet, told CNN. "All operations are designed in accordance with international law and demonstrate that the United States will fly, sail and operate wherever international law allows," Doss said, adding "that is true in the South China Sea as in other places around the globe." Monday's operation was the second in the South China Sea reported by the US Navy this year. In January, the destroyer USS McCampbell sailed within 12 nautical miles of the Paracel Islands. Shortly after that operation, China accused the US of trespassing in its territorial waters -- and said it had deployed missiles "capable of targeting medium and large ships." "The US action violated the Chinese laws and international laws, infringed China's sovereignty, damaged regional peace, security, and order," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lu Kang said at the time. "China will take necessary actions to protect state sovereignty." In late September, the USS Decatur also sailed within 12 nautical miles of Gaven and Johnson reefs in the Spratly Islands as part of a similar freedom of navigation operation. During that operation, a Chinese destroyer came within 45 yards of the US warship, forcing it to maneuver to avoid a collision. The US labeled the Chinese warship's actions unsafe and unprofessional, while Beijing said the US was threatening the safety and sovereignty of China. The US has accused Beijing of installing missiles and other military hardware on the disputed islands. "There's been sort of a steady increase," Adm. John Richardson, the US Chief of Naval Operations, told reporters earlier this month when asked about China's militarization of the area. "The weapons systems have been getting increasingly sophisticated so it's something we're watching very closely," he added. "We've got big interests there so we're going to remain there," he added, noting that about a third of the world's trade passed through those waters. This beautiful hymn is well-known to those who live on or by the sea; and particularly those who serve on ships or lifeboats. A tribute to those who served and died at sea, including Emmanuel Leonard, my late great-uncle from Plymouth, Devon, and of the Royal Navy. NOTE: I apologise for the typo concerning the composer of this hymn. It's John Bacchus Dykes (not Sykes). These are the original lyrics: Eternal Father, strong to save, Whose arm hath bound the restless wave, Who bidd'st the mighty ocean deep Its own appointed limits keep; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea! O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard And hushed their raging at Thy word, Who walkedst on the foaming deep, And calm amidst its rage didst sleep; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea! Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood Upon the chaos dark and rude, And bid its angry tumult cease, And give, for wild confusion, peace; Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee, For those in peril on the sea! O Trinity of love and power! Our brethren's shield in danger's hour; From rock and tempest, fire and foe, Protect them wheresoe'er they go; Thus evermore shall rise to Thee Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.

South China Sea: the Navy’s top officer says the US and China will ‘meet more and more on high seas’
Chief of US Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson said on Tuesday the US and China “will meet each other more and more on the high seas” after a Chinese warship came close to a US ship in the disputed South China Sea. The Chinese vessel came within 45 yards of the USS Decatur during a “freedom of navigation” sail in late September, US Vice President Mike Pence said this month. The US mission was the latest attempt to counter what Washington sees as Beijing’s efforts to limit freedom of navigation in the strategic waters, where Chinese, Japanese, and some Southeast Asian navies operate. In the weeks since, a US Navy research ship has visited Taiwan and two US warships sailed through the Taiwan Strait. China considers Taiwan a breakaway province and has bolstered its presence around the island country. In mid-October, during a meeting with his Japanese and South Korean counterparts, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said the US and its partners in the region would “continue to fly, sail, and operate wherever international law allows and our national interests demand.”

South China Sea - U.S Navy Confronted With Chinese Cat Guard
South China Sea - U.S Navy Confronted With Chinese Cat Guard The Chinese navy issued warnings (with cat voice) to the U.S. Navy jet eight times during the flight, telling it to leave the area. The United States maintains its planes and ships are exercising internationally recognized freedom of navigation rights in and over the South China Sea. South China Sea underpins the economic dynamism of the region, which is based on extensive intra-regional and international trade. More than 5 trillion dollars'worth of trade passes through these waters each year. But the sea is contests by several Asian countries, which make this region a hot spot and could slide into a very dangerous water. U.S policy towards the South China Sea has evolved in response to the increase of tensions in these disputes and in particular to China's actions. Although the U.S does not take a position on the underlying claims to sovereignty, it has increased its involvement in the dispute with an emphasis on the peaceful resolution of disputes. As a result, maritime security in the South China Sea has become an issues in US-China relations.

Russian Navy attack Ukrainian ships in Sea of Azov
Russian naval group attacked the Ukrainian Navy vessels in the Sea of Azov on November 25. The incident took place as two Ukraine's small gunboats and a tugboat were heading from Mariupol to Odesa, crossing Kerch Strait. The Border Guard of Russian FSB demanded that the Ukrainian ships halt since they ‘illegally entered’ the Russian waters in the area of Kerch Strait. The Ukrainian vessels continued to move on, obeying the order of the naval command and living up to the international maritime law. The Russian gunboats and gunships escorted them and then opened fire. The attack rendered all three vessels immobile, and six Ukrainian sailors were wounded; two of them are now in grave condition. The Ukrainian side and a number of foreign authorities unanimously condemned Russia's actions in this case. Kyiv turned for international assistance on this issue. Meanwhile, three of the six injured Ukrainian sailors are at a hospital in Kerch in the annexed Crimea. Russian ombudswoman Tatyana Moskalkova stated their condition was 'fine'. ******************************************************************* 112 International: Breaking News and Analysis from Ukraine and Around the World ******************************************************************* Visit our web-site: http://112.international/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/112UAInternational/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/112NewsFeed
Chinese Navy Issues Angry Warning to US Plane in South China Sea - Audio Recording
The Chinese navy repeatedly warned the U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon plane to leave airspace around disputed islands in the South China Sea. "Foreign military aircraft, this is Chinese navy. You are approaching our military alert zone. Leave immediately," a Chinese naval officer warned the U.S. plane, "Your action is unfriendly and dangerous. Please go away quickly." US Navy HIGH SPEED sea trial of USS Milwaukee LCS 5 ship
US Navy begins high speed sea trials of the USS Milwaukee LCS 5 ship. The Freedom class is one of two classes of littoral combat ship built for the United States Navy.[12] The Freedom class was proposed by Lockheed Martin as a contender for USN plans to build a fleet of small, multipurpose warships to operate in the littoral zone. Two ships were approved, to compete with the Independence-class design offered by General Dynamics and Austal for a construction contract of up to 55 vessels. Despite initial plans to only accept two of the Freedom and Independence variants, the Navy has since announced plans to order up to ten additional ships of each class, for a total 12 ships per class.[13] As of 2015, two ships are active and an additional five are under construction. Planning and construction Planning for a class of small, multipurpose warships to operate in the littoral zone began in the early 2000s. The construction contract was awarded to Lockheed Martin's LCS team (Lockheed Martin, Gibbs & Cox, Marinette Marine, Bollinger Shipyards) in May 2004 for two vessels. These would then be compared to two ships built by Austal USA to determine which design would be taken up by the Navy for a production run of up to 55 ships. On 15 April 2003, the Lockheed Martin LCS team unveiled their Sea Blade concept based on the hull form of the motor yacht Destriero.[14][15] The keel of the lead ship USS Freedom was laid down in June 2005, by Marinette Marine in Marinette, Wisconsin.[16] She was christened in September 2006,[17][18] delivered to the Navy in September 2008, and commissioned that November.[19] During INSURV trials, 2,600 discrepancies were discovered, including 21 considered high-priority.[20] Not all of these were rectified before the ship entered service, as moving the ship away from Milwaukee before the winter freeze was considered a higher priority.[21] Cost overruns during Freedom‍ 's construction combined with projected future overruns led the government to issue a "Stop-work" in January 2007 and ultimately led to the cancellation of construction of LCS-3 (the second Lockheed Martin ship) on April 13, 2007.[22] This ship was later re-ordered. After much inconsistency on how testing and orders were to proceed, in November 2010, the USN asked that Congress approve ten of both the Freedom and Independence variants.[23][24][25] Design[edit] An MH-60 Seahawk helicopter approaching USS Freedom in 2009 The ship is a semi-planing steel monohull with an aluminum superstructure. It is 377 feet (115 m) in length, displaces 3,500 metric tons, and can go faster than 45 knots (83 km/h; 52 mph). The design incorporates a large reconfigurable seaframe to allow rapidly interchangeable mission modules, a flight deck with integrated helicopter launch, recovery and handling system and the capability to launch and recover boats (manned and unmanned) from both the stern and side. The flight deck is 1.5 times the size of that of a standard surface ship, and uses a Trigon traversing system to move helicopters in and out of the hangar. The ship has two ways to launch and recover various mission packages: a stern ramp and a starboard side door near the waterline. The mission module bay has a 3-axis crane for positioning modules or cargo.[26] Problems with the electrical systems are the most serious problems with the Freedom class.[27] The fore deck has a modular weapons zone which can be used for a 57 mm gun turret or missile launcher. A Rolling Airframe Missile launcher is mounted above the hangar for short-range defense against aircraft and cruise missiles, and .50-caliber gun mounts are provided topside. The Fleet-class unmanned surface vessel is designed for operations from Freedom variant ships.[28] The core crew will be 40 sailors, usually joined by a mission package crew and an aviation detachment for a total crew of about 75. Automation allows a reduced crew, which greatly reduces operating costs, but workload can still be "gruelling".[29] During testing of the class lead, two ship's companies will rotate on four-month assignments.[30] Four 750-kilowatt Fincantieri Isotta-Fraschini diesel generators provide 3 megawatts of electrical power to power the ship systems.[31] The Congressional Budget Office estimates that fuel will account for only "8 percent to 18 percent" of the total life-cycle costs for Freedom.[32] Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama has called the report into question and has suggested that Independence, built in his state, would be more fuel efficient and that less frequent refuelings would have an impact on military operations beyond the cost of fuel.[33] In 2012, a Navy cybersecurity team found major deficiencies in Lockheed's Total Ship Computing Environment, which controls the entire ship in order to reduce crewing requirements.[34][35] Survivability has been a criticism of both Littoral Combat Ship classes, rated at level one by the Navy,

Sinking Ship Simulator: The Royal Navy's Damage Repair Instructional Unit
http://tomscott.com - with many, many thanks to the Royal Navy and everyone at HMS Excellent! http://royalnavy.mod.uk How do you train sailors to save a sinking ship? Sure, you can teach them the theory, but there's no replacement for having to hammer softwood wedges into deck and bulkhead splits that are spraying cold, high-pressure water in your face. At HMS Excellent in Portsmouth sits Hazard, a Royal Navy Damage Repair Instructional Unit (DRIU). Every Navy recruit who's going out to sea will have to go through something like this -- and on a much harder level than we did! But then, they'll have had months of training and teamwork beforehand...
