Oracle DENSE_RANK Function

04:09
https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-dense_rank/ The Oracle DENSE_RANK function allows you to calculate a rank of a row in a group of rows. It returns this rank as a NUMBER value. This function can be used as either an analytic or an aggregate function, and the syntax depends on how you use it. As an aggregate function it looks like this: DENSE_RANK ( expr, [expr(n)] ) WITHIN GROUP ( ORDER BY (order_expr [ASC|DESC] [NULLS FIRST|LAST] ) These parameters are: - expr: this is the value to search for in a particular table. You can specify multiple search values, and just separate them by a comma. - order_expr: this is used to order the expr values by, because you get a different results depending on what order you rank the values in. - NULLS FIRST or LAST: this is where you can specify if you want to have NULL values appear at the top of your ranking order or at the bottom. As an analytic function, it looks like this: DENSE_RANK() OVER ( [query_partition_clause] order_by_clause) The parameters are: - query_partition_clause: this is the expression that the ranking is “grouped” by, as analytic functions allow you to group data within rows. - order_by_clause: this is the expression to order your results by to determine a rank. For this function, if two records have the same sort or rank position, they will have the same RANK value. It won’t cause a gap in the rankings, unlike the RANK function which does cause a gap. For more information about the Oracle DENSE_RANK function, including all of the SQL shown in this video and the examples, read the related article here: https://www.databasestar.com/oracle-dense_rank/

SQL Null or Empty How to Check for Null or Empty Column in SQL Server SQL Training Online

03:42
http://www.sqltrainingonline.com SQL Null or Empty - How to Check for Null or Empty Column in SQL Server - SQL Training Online You can download the sample table script at http://www.sqltrainingonline.com/how-to-filter-for-sql-null-or-empty-string/. In this video, I show you how to filter for a SQL null or empty string. It can be difficult to filter a null because you can't simply compare with an equal sign. You have to use a special IS NULL clause to make the filter work. I also show you how to combine both the SQL Null and Empty String together in a special trick with the isnull SQL Server function. I use SQL Server 2012 to demonstrate the technique. Oracle SQL Tutorial 12 - Intro to Constraints

06:13
As I believe I've mentioned in an earlier video, a constraint is basically a rule we can put in our database that prevents someone from putting the wrong data in. It protects our relationships and data integrity. Because the goal of these constraints are to protect our data integrity, you may hear them called integrity constraints. There are many integrity constraints we are going to talk about: NOT NULL UNIQUE PRIMARY KEY FOREIGN KRY CHECK There is also the DEFAULT attribute. These are all keywords we can add to our columns that will change the way the database works with our data and also prevents incorrect data. NOT NULL is a constraint you can put on a column that prevents nulls. A null is the absence of a value. When we say null, we are saying that every single row has to have a value for this column. UNIQUE is a constraint that makes every row have a unique value for this column. Now note, this does not require values to be put it, and it will allow multiple rows to be null. Next, we are going to talk about primary keys. What qualifies a column as a candidate key? First, not a single row should have a null for that column. Second, every row must be unique. The primary key constraint is essentially a combination of the NOT NULL constraint and the UNIQUE constraint. The foreign key constraint sets the requirement that any value in this column for any row must match a row in another column. Check constraints allow us to be more strict with what data is allowed in our database. NOT NULL and UNIQUE give some level of restriction, but what if we want something more specific? For example, what if we only want values between 0 and 100? That is where check constraints come in. When using check constraints, you give a boolean expression. A boolean expression is something that can be evaluated to true or false. It will only insert the row if the value you try to put into the row makes the expression evaluate to true. So if you put in a value too great or small, the expression will be false and the data is not allowed to be entered. The default constraint is a value you can give a column, and if for any reason when the row is created in the table a value is not provided, the default value will be given. So for example, we could have a bank account table where the balance defaults to 0. How do you actually implement these constraints when you are creating a table? In the next video we are going to be adding these to our users table. COALESCE Function in SQL ORACLE Query With Example

03:53
ORACLE/PLSQL: COALESCE FUNCTION The Oracle/PLSQL COALESCE function returns the first non-null expression in the list. If all expressions evaluate to null, then the COALESCE function will return null. The syntax for the Oracle/PLSQL COALESCE function is: coalesce( expr1, expr2, ... expr_n ) PARAMETERS: expr1 to expr_n are the expressions to test for non-null values. EXAMPLE: The COALESCE function can be used in Oracle/PLSQL. You could use the coalesce function in a SQL statement as follows: SELECT COALESCE( address1, address2, address3 ) result FROM suppliers; The above COALESCE function is equivalent to the following IF-THEN-ELSE statement: IF address1 is not null THEN result := address1; ELSIF address2 is not null THEN result := address2; ELSIF address3 is not null THEN result := address3; ELSE result := null; END IF; The COALESCE function will compare each value, one by one. Lets apply the same to emp table. We have some NULL values in comm and mgr columns. but not in any other columns. So lets take a example for this 2 columns. COALESCE(comm,mgr,sal) Here if comm is null, function returns mgr value. If mgr is null it returns sal value! Query used in video: SELECT ename,comm,mgr,sal,COALESCE(comm,mgr,sal) result FROM emp;

FFT Oracle SSCC Part 5 - Save Agrias

05:47
Really luck-reliant battle. You get a game over when Agrias dies, which is far more likely to happen than Ramza crystallising. Agrias joins full-time after this battle, and since it's a Ramza solo Oracle game, that means we fire Agrias as soon as we get her equipment (mainly for selling it, I suppose). Too bad, she was quite a potent guest, and we'll miss her like we missed Delita. The weather is rainy, making the Bolt/Bolt 2 spells cast our way considerably more powerful, at times quite deadly (depending on compatibility with the two Wizards and their Faith stats). The Archer with the height advantage also has a Lightning Bow, and if a spell randomly kicks in (20% was it?) after one of her connected shots, it will hurt as hell. Rubber Shoes can be equipped on Ramza to prevent the lightning-elemental attacks from hurting him, but this will mean that the enemy will always prioritise Agrias when performing these attacks. Failing this mission enough times quickly shows the more blows Ramza takes for Agrias, the more chances we have for winning. I had a very specific strategy for this fight, which may or may not work (once again compat and Faith stats play a big role). On Ramza's first turn, he should move in and silence the closest Wizard. Silence should wear off after some time, but this will leave him unable to do anything more threatening than poison somebody with a 9 damage attack... at best. The first wizard should be neutralised ASAP, which helps in the hardest portion of this battle. Another Wizard will approach together with his Archer friend (who is out of range for attacking for two turns). This Wizard will be able to reach Agrias on his second turn, so casting Doubt Faith on Agrias (Innocent status nulls magic) and moving out of the second Wizard's range means no spells will be cast by anyone on the second turn either. Doubt Faith also nulls those nasty Bolt procs from the Archer on top of the hill. Meanwhile, Knights will be attacking Agrias and probably breaking stuff. Breaks may be either a good or a bad thing depending on whether they connect and at which time. Let's say a Knight breaks Agrias's armour, and the other one hits her with a powerful sword swing - she won't have much more HP after this. But if it's the other way around, the equipment break will make her current HP her max HP, not changing much at all. In an ideal world, we just want all the breaks to miss (and breaks are more likely to miss Agrias than physical attacks). The most crucial turn is the third/fourth one, as it decides who will have the advantage. Getting a midcharge attack on somebody really helps in the end, as does Agrias Stopping somebody with Stasis Sword. To win this, Agrias should not suck, and Ramza should have opportunities to either beat the hell out of someone with his stick, or cripple things with status. There was little time for that in this battle. At the end, I was really close to losing. I didn't want to risk casting a 50% accurate Sleep on the Knight, and spending a turn using Pray Faith nearly cost me the victory there (with Agrias in critical). I suppose I just didn't expect the battle to go any other way after killing the first wizard, but when the Knight was out of range for a crystal, it was clear I won anyway.

The Evils of Implicit Conversions and other SQL Skullduggery

50:27
Presented by Tom Kyte Thurs 21st June 2012 Summary SQL and PL/SQL are deceptively simple, user-friendly languages, which is great for productivity, but also makes it relatively easy to write bad, non-scalable code. Certain features, in particular, seem to sound an irresistible siren call into a world of Oracle applications that perform poorly and yield unpredictable results. In this webinar, Tom Kyte, a Senior Technical Architect at Oracle Corporation, and the man behind asktom.oracle.com, takes a look at a few of the worst offenders: Triggers - much trickery is possible via triggers, and much of it causes pain, confusion and unexpected side effects Indexes, NULLs and cardinality - misinformation abounds with regard to the effect of NULLs on cardinality estimates, and the impact of NULLs on index use Implicit conversions - strings to numbers, strings to dates, raw to string... probably #2 on the list of 'bugs I see time and time (and time) again' With Tom's typically example-driven approach, you'll see first-hand evidence of the damage caused when fundamental features are misused, misunderstood and implemented badly. A live Q+A session with Tom follows the presentation. For our complete archive, and to sign up for upcoming webinars please go to http://www.red-gate.com/oracle-webinars

SQL: Lag

04:40
In this tutorial, you'll learn how to make use of lag function in oracle sql PL/SQL (Procedural Language/Structured Query Language) is Oracle Corporation's procedural extension for SQL and the Oracle relational database. PL/SQL is available in Oracle Database (since version 7), TimesTen in-memory database (since version 11.2.1), and IBM DB2 (since version 9.7).[1] Oracle Corporation usually extends PL/SQL functionality with each successive release of the Oracle Database. PL/SQL includes procedural language elements such as conditions and loops. It allows declaration of constants and variables, procedures and functions, types and variables of those types, and triggers. It can handle exceptions (runtime errors). Arrays are supported involving the use of PL/SQL collections. Implementations from version 8 of Oracle Database onwards have included features associated with object-orientation. One can create PL/SQL units such as procedures, functions, packages, types, and triggers, which are stored in the database for reuse by applications that use any of the Oracle Database programmatic interfaces. PL/SQL works analogously to the embedded procedural languages associated with other relational databases. For example, Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server have Transact-SQL, PostgreSQL has PL/pgSQL (which emulates PL/SQL to an extent), and IBM DB2 includes SQL Procedural Language,[2] which conforms to the ISO SQL’s SQL/PSM standard. The designers of PL/SQL modeled its syntax on that of Ada. Both Ada and PL/SQL have Pascal as a common ancestor, and so PL/SQL also resembles Pascal in several aspects. However, the structure of a PL/SQL package does not resemble the basic Object Pascal program structure as implemented by a Borland Delphi or Free Pascal unit. Programmers can define public and private global data-types, constants and static variables in a PL/SQL package.[3] PL/SQL also allows for the definition of classes and instantiating these as objects in PL/SQL code. This resembles usage in object-oriented programming languages like Object Pascal, C++ and Java. PL/SQL refers to a class as an "Abstract Data Type" (ADT) or "User Defined Type" (UDT), and defines it as an Oracle SQL data-type as opposed to a PL/SQL user-defined type, allowing its use in both the Oracle SQL Engine and the Oracle PL/SQL engine. The constructor and methods of an Abstract Data Type are written in PL/SQL. The resulting Abstract Data Type can operate as an object class in PL/SQL. Such objects can also persist as column values in Oracle database tables. PL/SQL is fundamentally distinct from Transact-SQL, despite superficial similarities. Porting code from one to the other usually involves non-trivial work, not only due to the differences in the feature sets of the two languages,[4] but also due to the very significant differences in the way Oracle and SQL Server deal with concurrency and locking. There are software tools available that claim to facilitate porting including Oracle Translation Scratch Editor,[5] CEITON MSSQL/Oracle Compiler [6] and SwisSQL.[7] The StepSqlite product is a PL/SQL compiler for the popular small database SQLite. PL/SQL Program Unit A PL/SQL program unit is one of the following: PL/SQL anonymous block, procedure, function, package specification, package body, trigger, type specification, type body, library. Program units are the PL/SQL source code that is compiled, developed and ultimately executed on the database. The basic unit of a PL/SQL source program is the block, which groups together related declarations and statements. A PL/SQL block is defined by the keywords DECLARE, BEGIN, EXCEPTION, and END. These keywords divide the block into a declarative part, an executable part, and an exception-handling part. The declaration section is optional and may be used to define and initialize constants and variables. If a variable is not initialized then it defaults to NULL value. The optional exception-handling part is used to handle run time errors. Only the executable part is required. A block can have a label. Package Packages are groups of conceptually linked functions, procedures, variables, PL/SQL table and record TYPE statements, constants, cursors etc. The use of packages promotes re-use of code. Packages are composed of the package specification and an optional package body. The specification is the interface to the application; it declares the types, variables, constants, exceptions, cursors, and subprograms available. The body fully defines cursors and subprograms, and so implements the specification. Two advantages of packages are: Modular approach, encapsulation/hiding of business logic, security, performance improvement, re-usability. They support object-oriented programming features like function overloading and encapsulation. Using package variables one can declare session level (scoped) variables, since variables declared in the package specification have a session scope.

Difference between intersect and inner join Intersect operator retrieves the common records from both the left and the right query of the Intersect operator. Introduced in SQL Server 2005 The number and the order of the columns must be same in both the queries The data types must be same or at least compatible Let us understand INTERSECT operator with an example. The following query retrieves the common records from both the left and the right query of the Intersect operator. Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA Intersect Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB We can also achieve the same thinkg using INNER join. The following INNER join query would produce the exact same result. Select TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id What is the difference between INTERSECT and INNER JOIN 1. INTERSECT filters duplicates and returns only DISTINCT rows that are common between the LEFT and Right Query, where as INNER JOIN does not filter the duplicates. To understand this difference, insert the following row into TableA Insert into TableA values (2, 'Mary', 'Female') Now execute the following INTERSECT query. Notice that we get only the DISTINCT rows Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA Intersect Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB Now execute the following INNER JOIN query. Notice that the duplicate rows are not filtered. Select TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id You can make the INNER JOIN behave like INTERSECT operator by using the DISTINCT operator Select DISTINCT TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id 2. INNER JOIN treats two NULLS as two different values. So if you are joining two tables based on a nullable column and if both tables have NULLs in that joining column then, INNER JOIN will not include those rows in the result-set, where as INTERSECT treats two NULLs as a same value and it returns all matching rows. To understand this difference, execute the following 2 insert statements Insert into TableA values(NULL, 'Pam', 'Female') Insert into TableB values(NULL, 'Pam', 'Female') INTERSECT query Select Id, Name, Gender from TableA Intersect Select Id, Name, Gender from TableB INNER JOIN query Select TableA.Id, TableA.Name, TableA.Gender From TableA Inner Join TableB On TableA.Id = TableB.Id Text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/intersect-operator-in-sql-server.html Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2015/09/intersect-operator-in-sql-server_6.html All SQL Server Text Articles http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/free-sql-server-video-tutorials-for.html All SQL Server Slides http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/p/sql-server.html All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in English https://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists?view=1&sort=dd All Dot Net and SQL Server Tutorials in Arabic https://www.youtube.com/c/KudvenkatArabic/playlists

Valkyrie Crusade: Trying to Fight LAWs Without Active Skills

03:13
So, these were some of my attempts to find a team for PachyxLee's challenge of defeating a LAW using only autoskills. Apparently, even I don't have quite enough dumb luck to make it work out perfectly, especially with the limited chances to fight Tamiel. ._. I feel like Niagara actually did not work out as well here with the cards I have since having only 2 cards to buff her only let her reach about 1.2 million per tap during burst. And adding a third would have meant sacrificing nulls. Plus, in some attempts, she died after 50+ turns without bursting. ._. But considering how close the last couple of teams came, I think it should theoretically be possible with enough RNG luck. The ideal situation be to tap the LAW 3 times with each Letta at the beginning, once with Pure Oracle, next two taps with Oracle to get rid of the servants, and then back to hitting the LAW with Oracle and switching to different cards when they burst. It would also need the cards to not burst until after all buffs are in place and for bursts to not overlap much so that the extra damage can be used to compensate for the lower damage during the first seven turns. Plus, not running out of hp and nulls. Or at least not getting domained and/or losing Oracle. So, somewhat more RNG luck than I was able to manage. :-P I did have 3 other attempts with that last team reach over 90 million damage but the one in the video was the highest. I tried teams with other snowballers like Leiria and Couverture as well but Oracle seemed to work best because of her secondary nulls. And experimented with cards like Radiant Pixie, Chale, Sacred Seika, Holly, Arava, Sellana, and R&T at various points but nothing else worked as well. (As for today's music, I couldn't think of much that would fit Tamiel well so it was chosen more for the "falling like stars" line since her quotes say that she likes to make stars fall.) Music: "The Riddle" sung by Terrence Mann, Christine Andreas, and Douglas Sills (https://youtu.be/DKR0-lg3WMk) from the original Broadway cast recording of "The Scarlet Pimpernel"

SQL Add - How to Use Addition in SQL Server - SQL Training Online

03:58
http://www.sqltrainingonline.com SQL Add - How to Use Addition in SQL Server - SQL Training Online The SQL Add, or the Addition operator is used to add two numbers. I first want to take a look at the Employee table in the SQL Training Online Simple Database. select * from employee In particular, I want to look at the Salary and Commission columns. We can add those two columns together by using the plus sign (+), or addition operator in SQL: select salary ,commision ,salary + commision from employee But, since there can be nulls in the commission column, we need to handle that with the isnull function: select salary ,isnull(commision,0) as commision ,salary + isnull(commision,0) as total_compensation from employee Next, I want to show you how to add with a datetime. When you use the SQL Add operator, SQL Server will actually add the number in days. Here is an example: select hire_date ,hire_date + 2 as training_date from employee This example will add 2 days to the hire_date. Let me know what you think by commenting or sharing on twitter, facebook, google+, etc. If you enjoy the video, please give it a like, comment, or subscribe to my channel.
