Quickstart: Getting Started with Oracle and .NET

08:56
New to Oracle and .NET development? This video gives you everything you need to know to get up and running quickly! We walk you through downloading and installing the needed Oracle software and then connecting in Visual Studio and creating a simple C# application. The video starts at the Oracle .NET Developer Technology Center website at http://otn.oracle.com/dotnet We then download the "ODTwithODAC" package, extract it and run the installer. Note that ODAC version 12 works with Oracle Database versions 10.2 or higher. After installing we connect in Server Explorer and learn about the connection dialog features, including the Filters tab which by default filters out additional schemas you may have privileges on. We connect to the database using the easy to use EZ connect format. Finally we create a simple C# application and connect to the database using ODP.NET Managed driver and a EZ Config connect string. Prerequisites: 1) Visual Studio 2012 or 2013 -- any edition except Express Edition. Visual Studio Community Edition is supported. 2) An Oracle Database to connect to. You will need to know the hostname, port number and service name of the database. During the video we install: Oracle Data Provider for .NET Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio Oracle .NET Samples Oracle .NET Documentation

The view then renders the data. Model can be entities or business objects. In part 7, we have built Employee entity. public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } In this video, we will discuss, retrieving data from a database table tblEmployee using entity framework. In a later video, we will discuss using business objects as our model. Step 1: Install entity framework, if you don't have it installed already on your computer. At the time of this recording the latest version is 5.0.0.0. Using nuget package manager, is the easiest way to install. A reference to EntityFramework.dll is automatically added. Open visual studio - Tools - Library Package Manager - Manage NuGet Packages for Solution Step 2: Add EmployeeContext.cs class file to the Models folder. Add the following "using" declaration. using System.Data.Entity; Copy & paste the following code in EmployeeContext.cs public class EmployeeContext : DbContext { // Replace square brackets, with angular brackets public DbSet[Employee] Employees {get; set;} } EmployeeContext class derives from DbContext class, and is responsible for establishing a connection to the database. So the next step, is to include connection string in web.config file. Step 3: Add a connection string, to the web.config file, in the root directory. Step 4: Map "Employee" model class to the database table, tblEmployee using "Table" attribute as shown below. [Table("tblEmployee")] public class Employee { public int EmployeeId { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public string Gender { get; set; } public string City { get; set; } } Note: "Table" attribute is present in "System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema" namespace. Step 5: Make the changes to "Details()" action method in "EmployeeController" as shown below. public ActionResult Details(int id) { EmployeeContext employeeContext = new EmployeeContext(); Employee employee = employeeContext.Employees.Single(x =] x.EmployeeId == id); return View(employee); } Step 6: Finally, copy and paste the following code in Application_Start() function, in Global.asax file. Database class is present "in System.Data.Entity" namespace. Existing databases do not need, database initializer so it can be turned off. Database.SetInitializer[MVCDemo.Models.EmployeeContext](null); That's it, run the application and notice that the relevant employee details are displayed as expected.

16.6 Java Database Connectivity with DAO Example

11:31
In computer software, a data access object (DAO) is an object that provides an abstract interface to some type of database or other persistence mechanism. By mapping application calls to the persistence layer, DAO provide some specific data operations without exposing details of the database. JDBC is a Java database connectivity technology (Java Standard Edition platform) from Oracle Corporation. This technology is an API for the Java programming language that defines how a client may access a database. It provides methods for querying and updating data in a database. Oracle Database 12c Release 2 Rapid Home Provisioning and Maintenance

42:40
Automating and streamlining the tasks associated with software distribution and maintenance allows IT to accelerate and scale operations. A standardized approach to provision, patch and upgrade across all layers of software infrastructure improves predictability and control. Rapid Home Provisioning (RHP) is a new feature in Oracle Database 12c that allows for centralized software deployment. Software is installed once, stored on an RHP server, and then provisioned to any node or cluster in the private cloud. For maintenance, RHP minimizes impact by distributing new homes out-of-place, and applying rolling updates whenever possible. A single command performs the entire operation and a simple switchback command is available in case problems arise. Upgrades are handled in a similar fashion. By relieving the burdens of software maintenance, the IT organization can meet the demands of the scale and pace that cloud is bringing, and focus on innovative activities that bring the most business value. Key benefits include: » Enables and enforces standardization » Simplifies provisioning, patching, scaling and upgrading » Minimizes the impact and risk of maintenance » Increases automation and reduces touch points » Supports large scale deployments Key features include: » Centralized repository of gold images – Grid Infrastructure, Database, application, middleware and generic homes » Manage existing 11.2 and 12.1 deployments with no changes needed » Provision new pools and databases onto base machines » Non-disruptive distribution of homes to minimize maintenance windows » Provision, scale, patch or upgrade with a single command » Built-in fallback capabilities » Notification model » Custom workflow support » Auditing » Supports all deployment models – base machines, VMs, Zones; SIDB, RAC One, RAC, Multitentant Speaker: Burt Clouse

It is present everywhere. It really doesn't matter which domain you are working in, you will surely come across Java sooner or later! Open Source: The good news is that Java is available for free! All the development tools and the environment (JRE & JDK) that is used to develop Java applications are absolutely free of cost. Android: Irrespective of the fact that you are tech savvy or not, most of us are badly bitten by the Android bug! Android is in great demand today and fortunately you need Java for Android development. Hence, the importance of Java has increased even more. Hadoop: Hadoop is one of the most trending frameworks for processing Big Data. It has been designed and developed in Java. In spite of having a tough competition on the server side from Microsoft and other companies, Java is doing extremely well on mobile platforms, thanks to Android! It has also been the primary language for Hadoop Developers. ------------------------------------- Got a question on the topic? Event Cell End Edit On Qty With VB.NET Connect to ORACLE

With the popularity of Microsoft's .NET Framework, many developers are hungry for information about the best means of integrating .NET applications with Oracle—not only in terms of basic connectivity, but also in relationship to effective and efficient application development using Visual Studio 2005 or 2008. In this article, I'll explain the basic yet essential processes involved in building a .NET application that uses an Oracle database, including: How to add project references to support Oracle class libraries in your .NET project How to create Oracle Database connection strings How to work with Connection, Command, and DataReader objects You will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned in three practice labs, ranging in difficulty from the relatively simple to the more complex. The article's screenshots are taken from Visual Studio 2008, but the experience is very similar in Visual Studio 2005. For information and labs about how to secure your application, see my article " Securing a .NET Application on the Oracle Database". (Also, see the OTN .NET Developer Center for technical articles covering a range of Oracle.NET application lifecycle issues.) Note that the free Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio, available for download from OTN, provides a Visual Studio add-in that makes the development of .NET apps on Oracle much easier and more intuitive. That subject is beyond our scope here, however. .NET Data Provider In addition to basic Oracle client connectivity software, .NET applications require the use of what is known as a managed data provider (where "managed" refers to code managed by the .NET framework). The data provider is the layer between the .NET application code and the Oracle client connectivity software. In almost every case, the best performance is achieved by using a provider optimized for a specific database platform instead of the generic .NET OLE DB data provider. Oracle, Microsoft, and third-party vendors all offer .NET data providers optimized for Oracle. Oracle and Microsoft make their Oracle data providers available for free. (Microsoft's provider for the .NET Framework 2.0 is included in the framework, but it still requires Oracle client software installation.) In this article, we will use of the Oracle Data Provider for .NET (ODP.NET), which is included with the Oracle Database or as a separate download. ODP.NET provides standard ADO.NET data access, while exposing Oracle database-specific features, such as XML DB, data access performance optimizations, and Real Application Clusters connection pooling. When ODP.NET and Oracle client software are installed, application development using Visual Studio can begin. It's a good idea to confirm client connectivity before starting development. If you can connect to Oracle using Oracle client software such as SQL*Plus on the same machine as Visual Studio, then you know that your Oracle client-side software is properly installed and configured. If you are new to Oracle, see the section "Installing .NET Products" in the Oracle Database 2 Day Developer's Guide for background information regarding installing and configuring ODP.NET specifically, or to the Oracle Database Documentation Library for general information about Oracle Database.

Using Oracle to read data from SQL Server

10:47
Hi everyone, Andy from Easysoft Limited here, what I want to show you today is how to get data from SQL Server into Oracle. Now for this we will be accessing SQL Server 2014 from Oracle 12 and getting data across. This could be quite easily be any SQL Server version from 2008 and any Oracle version from 11.2, the configuration and process is the same. We can obviously get access to data on SQL Server prior to 2008 and Oracle prior to version 11.2 but it will need a different configuration to what I am going to show you today The plan is also to add more data to the SQL Server table and show this new data back in Oracle. To start off you'll need access to ensure that you have access to your SQL Server and Oracle databases. You'll also need the Easysoft SQL Server ODBC Driver available from www.easysoft.com; just download it, install it and request the free 14 day trial licence. Before we start we need to make some changes to the standard Easysoft config files. cat /etc/odbc.ini Here I have changed Mars Connection to Yes. It must be set to "Yes" if you are connecting to SQL Server 2005 or newer. Easysoft supports all SQL data types from the version of SQL Server from version 7. Oracle supports data types that are common to most ODBC Drivers, but not some of the SQL Server ones. If you intend to access VARCHAR(MAX) for example, then there are some additional settings that need to be set up. Now as I would like to show you VARCHAR(MAX) data moving from SQL Server to Oracle, I have made the relevant change. As you can see, VarMaxAsLong says "Yes" We now need to create a link from Oracles Database Gateway (DG4ODBC) to the ODBC datasource that we already have, this is done in an init(sid) oracle file; let's have a look at our file. cat $ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin/initsqlsrv.ora Please note that HS_NLS_NCHAR must be set to UCS2 Oracle assume that most database vendors use UTF-8 for wide characters, however Easysoft, like almost all ODBC Driver vendors (including Oracles own ODBC Driver) uses UCS2 for wide characters. So that's the link between DG4ODBC and the datasource setup correctly. Next we need to set up the Listener entry The Oracle Listener waits for incoming requests from the Oracle database. For the Oracle Listener to listen for requests, information about DG4ODBC must be added to the Oracle Listener configuration file, listener.ora cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora The PROGRAM=dg4odbc tells the Listener that we are wanting to use the Oracle database gateway to communicate with ODBC. The ENVS=LD_LIBRARY_PATH tells Oracle what library to load Now that's all set up and OK we need to tell Oracle which server to attach the listener entry to. This is done in tnsnames.ora, and he is the file that we ensured was set up earlier. cat $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora The Oracle Listener now needs to be restarted. lsnrctl stop lsnrctl start OK, that's now started the Listener up again. So we have ensured that all the configuration files are set up correctly. The Listener and tnsnames.ora both set up OK. The final step is to create a link from the Oracle database to the "tnsnames.ora" entry. CREATE PUBLIC DATABASE LINK ODBC CONNECT TO "test" IDENTIFIED BY "test" USING 'sqlsrv_ptr'; Right, that's all done. Let's access the data in SQL Server now. select * from [email protected]; Where 'demo' is the name of the SQL Server table and 'odbc' is the public database link name. OK, there we have the data. So to recap, I'm in Oracle and we have managed to read the data from SQL Server. Let's just add an additional row in that SQL Server table and retrieve the new data in Oracle. quit; /usr/local/easysoft/unixODBC/bin/isql.sh -v sqlsrv insert into demo values (2,'Easysoft') select * from demo select * from [email protected]; And there is the new data. Easysoft Limited can help you with your data access ... for our full range of ODBC and JDBC Drivers, Bridges and Gateways visit easysoft.com Be sure to let us know if you have any comments or questions. Until next time, thanks again and we'll see you again soon.

Best Android Studio: How to Connect Android with PHP, MySQL

Best Android Studio: Tutorial on How to Connect Android with PHP, MySQL (PhpMyAdmin) XAMPP. Recommended to Read this post to understand more about my library: http://kosalgeek.com/connect-android-php-mysql-generic-asynctask Please subscribe https://youtube.com/oumsaokosal?sub_confirmation=1 To connect Android with MySQL Database, you cannot do it directly. You need a Web service as a medium. In this case, we can use PHP because in PHP you can have a single of code that easily converts database data into the JSON format. You can convert it to XML as well, but many prefers JSON due to its size and performance. Download the lib at https://github.com/kosalgeek/generic_asynctask Android recently changed its IDE from Eclipse-based Android Development Toolkit (ADT) to IntelliJ IDEA-based Android Studio. The big reason for that is Gradle. Gradle is a modern open source build automation system. It works better in many ways than Ant, which is used by Eclipse-based Android IDE. The change also affects some old APIs to deprecate. In this tutorial "How to Connect Android with PHP, MySQL", l uses the new IDE, Android Studio along with the new APIs. Moreover, I created my own library that simplified the way of how to connect Android with PHP and MySQL. Before this, you had to have a private class extends AsyncTask class all the time in order to connect to the Web. The AsyncTask class works as background thread. Since Android 3.0 API 11 (Honeycombs), you are allowed to use the main thread to do a long process, such as connecting to Web. I named the lib as GenAsync.jar (Generic AsyncTask) and you can download it at https://github.com/kosalgeek/generic_asynctask. My lib hides all the complexity and all you have to do to instantiate the PostResponseAsyncTask class and pass a POST data as a second argument of the constructor. You call the execute() method and provide the URL that you want to pass the data to. Finally, you can receive the data by processFinish() method. This course guides how to create a database and a table in MySQL and create PHP pages. Check out the latest articles on Android Phone at: https://kosalgeek.com Subscribe. Like. Share. Comment.
