jQuery in Oracle APEX - An Introduction for Database Developers

45:39
Learn jQuery from SkillBuilders.com/APEX! Oracle Application Express (APEX) developers often have strong backgrounds in SQL and PL/SQL, but JavaScript is another story. However, JavaScript is a very important part of any well-built Web 2.0 application. Luckily JavaScript libraries, such as jQuery which is integrated into APEX, have made the language much easier to use. In this session, learn about jQuery through a series of analogies, nine in total, which will relate important concepts in the library back to what you already know in the database world. Oracle APEX - JavaScript Value Calculation on APEX 18

01:13
Legacy JavaScript. Work has commenced in attempting to reduce the overall size of JavaScript that is loaded by Application Express when rendering a page. JavaScript functions that are no longer served on every page are gradually being moved to a legacy JavaScript file, which can be found in /i/libraries/apex/legacy.js. When developing applications, a developer has the option to either include, or not include the legacy JavaScript functions. This is achieved by using the Include Legacy JavaScript property on the User Interface Attributes page under the application's Shared Components. Existing applications are migrated with this option enabled, for backward compatibility. To not include this legacy file, you need to go through the functions listed in the legacy file, and search your application and associated JavaScript files for any references to those files. If you are happy that there are no references to these functions, you can switch off including the legacy file and benefit from the slightly smaller library. When developing new applications, the legacy file is included by default in all applications that use a Desktop User Interface Type. New applications that use a jQuery Mobile Smartphone User Interface Type do not include this file. For both new and existing application development, Oracle recommends that you do not continue to use any of the functions in legacy.js, to reduce your dependency to this legacy JavaScript.

Oracle APEX - Interactive Gird with Javascript

04:54
Interactive Grid Interface By default, all interactive grids have a search bar, Actions menu, and Reset button. All grids also have Column Heading Menus, which users access by clicking the name or heading of a column. With the Actions and Column Heading menus, users can hide, filter, freeze, highlight, sort, and create control breaks on individual columns. Advanced users can also define aggregations, which appear at the bottom of the column or column group. Users can directly customize the appearance of an interactive grid with the mouse. Users can resize or drag and drop columns into different places in the grid. The width and order of columns can also be configured in the Columns dialog. Users can quickly chart the data with the Chart function. This feature is useful for quick data visualization or even presentation, and responds immediately to changes in the data. Users can quickly revert their modifications with the Reset function, or perform an incremental revert with the Flashback function. In cases of a highly dynamic data set, users can use the Refresh function to pull in the latest version of the data on the database. Editable Interactive Grids Oracle Application Express also contains editable interactive grids, which provide a more robust tool set for directly editing data in the interactive grid.

Part 4 – Implementing Drag & Drop functionality

41:30
Do you want to add Drag & Drop functionality to your APEX applications? That’s what this video is all about. You’ll see me working on the list created in the previous episodes (Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3MMRlrL_VFUOk-DSnnvDdN44qdJfPti-) and add the necessary JS to implement. During the video, I follow this companion blog post (http://rimblas.com/blog/2016/08/implementing-drag-drop-in-your-apex-applications). Bookmark it and use it as a reference in the future. In this 41 minute video you’ll find: 02:08 to 03:22 — Add the jQuery UI library to the page. 03:23 to 04:40 — Explaining how elements get re-arranged. 04:40 to 08:02 — Make region/report sortable. 08:02 to 16:04 — Identify the elements to sort and explaining how we actually capture the new order. 16:05 to 24:17 — The AJAX call to save changes (plus some debugging), wrapping up. 24:18 to 42:25 — Implementing the same thing on a regular Classic Report.

APEX for Mobile Development

01:01:32
Presented by Peter Raganitsch, 20th July 2011 Going mobile is a hot topic: everyone has a smartphone and wants to access their business data with it. So why not create an APEX Application to run on smartphones, taking care of the tiny screen and touch capabilities? Peter Raganitsch shows how he created a mobile APEX Demo Showcase with standard APEX components like Templates, Plugins, Reports, Lists and Forms. For the best mobile support he uses one of the many available mobile Javascript Frameworks: jQuery mobile. In this session Peter shows you how to integrate 3rd Party Frameworks into APEX and stick to standard components without creating non-APEX code. A Q+A session with Peter follows the presentation. Introduction to Oracle Application Express (APEX)

42:19
Oracle Application Express (APEX) is an easy to use platform for developing data-centric web based applications. Although it has been around for years, many people have yet to really discover and utilize its unique strengths. Those new to Apex often have many questions including: What can Apex do for me or my organization? What features are available "out of the box" and can I extend the product if needed? Is is secure and can it scale? This session will answer these questions, and many more, via a high level product overview which will include a live demo.

05 of 13 - Oracle APEX 5 - Create an application; create a form with interactive report

14:51
A new series using APEX 18.1 is now available. https://youtu.be/8P0OdAHpxFQ This is one video in a series about APEX 5. In this video we generate an application in APEX (a container for the application design elements) and we look at the difference in theme styles for an application. Next, we create a form with report which actually creates two pages--one for the form and one for the report. The report is interactive and has many readily available features for filtering, sorting, grouping, etc. The form allows a new record to be created and updates to an existing record. SQL scripts for this series are available to download at: http://db.kreie.net
