MySQL 33 - Datetime, Date, Time Data Types

06:40
Next up on our MySQL to-do list is to learn about storing dates and times. There are various data types in MySQL for storing dates and times. It seems MySQL and databases likes to break everything up into multiple data types to make things more organized at the consequence of being confusing and annoying. This video is going to be talking about the DATETIME, DATE, and TIME data types. These are all used to store, you guessed it, dates and times. The one you choose depends on your needs. If you just need dates, choose DATE. If you just need times, choose TIME, if you need both stored together, choose DATETIME. Now you set a column one of these data types whenever you want every row for this field to have some sort of date, time or both…but how exactly is the data formatted? This requires us to understand some convention. For example, in the USA at least, if you have something like 4:30AM, by convention you know the hour is 4 and the minutes are 30. But this is just an agreed upon convention. MySQL has its own convention…For example 2017-02-02. The first thing is the year, the second is the month, and the third is the day. That is for the DATE. The convention for time is 22:54:30. The first is the hour (military time), the second is the minute, and the third is the seconds. Lastly, there can actually be fractions of seconds…up to microseconds! .123456. To use fractional seconds though you must specify to MySQL the precision of the TIME or DATETIME when you create it, for example DATETIME(6) would allow microsecond precision. How do you actually give a date to MySQL? By that I mean let's say you have a table with a column of DATETIME(6), and you want to give a value for that column, how do you format it? It's quoted. For example: '2017-02-02 22:54:30.333333' MySQL interprets this as a DATETIME. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Support me! http://www.patreon.com/calebcurry Subscribe to my newsletter: http://bit.ly/JoinCCNewsletter Donate!: http://bit.ly/DonateCTVM2. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Additional Links~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ More content: http://CalebCurry.com Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/CalebTheVideoMaker Google+: https://plus.google.com/+CalebTheVideoMaker2 Twitter: http://twitter.com/calebCurry Amazing Web Hosting - http://bit.ly/ccbluehost (The best web hosting for a cheap price!)

How to : Add day, hour, minute, second to a date value in oracle

10:00
Add day, hour, minute, second to a date value in oracle Date arithmetic is very common in database application. In Oracle, you can add, subtract and compare DATE columns, but you can not multiply or divide it. Oracle stores century, year, month, day, hour, min and seconds as part of the DATE column. Now let’s take a look at how to add day/hour/minute/second to a date value. Oracle expects a number constant in date arithmetic as number of days. In other words, you need to convert hour, minute and seconds to fraction of a day and then you can add or subtract that value from a date value. Here are some examples: Add a day . select to_date('02-22-2008 10:30:30','mm-dd-yyyy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-2008 10:30:30','mm-dd-yyyy hh24:mi:ss')+1 next_day from dual; TODAY NEXT_DAY ------------------------- ------------------------- 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-23-08 10:30:30 Add an hour . select to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss')+ 1/24 next_hour from dual; TODAY NEXT_HOUR ------------------------ ------------------------ 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-22-08 11:30:30 Add a minute . select to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss')+ 1/(24*60) next_min from dual; TODAY NEXT_MIN ------------------------ ------------------------ 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-22-08 10:31:30 Add a second . select to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss')+ 1/(24*60*60) next_sec from dual; TODAY NEXT_SEC ------------------------ ------------------------ 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-22-08 10:30:31 Subtract a day . select to_date('02-22-2008 10:30:30','mm-dd-yyyy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-2008 10:30:30','mm-dd-yyyy hh24:mi:ss') - 1 prev_day from dual; TODAY PREV_DAY ------------------------- ------------------------- 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-21-08 10:30:30 Subtract an hour . select to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') - 1/24 prev_hour from dual; TODAY PREV_HOUR ------------------------ ------------------------ 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-22-08 09:30:30 Subtract a minute . select to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') - 1/(24*60) prev_min from dual; TODAY PREV_MIN ------------------------ ------------------------ 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-22-08 10:29:30 Subtract a second . select to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') today, to_date('02-22-08 10:30:30','mm-dd-yy hh24:mi:ss') - 1/(24*60*60) prev_sec from dual; TODAY PREV_SEC ------------------------ ------------------------ 02-22-08 10:30:30 02-22-08 10:30:29 Date value in Oracle has two components, date and time. Oracle stores hour, minute and seconds along with date. As you can see from the above examples, date arithmetic in Oracle is simple and easy to use.

Entity Relationship Diagram (ERD) Tutorial - Part 1

06:58
Learn how to create an Entity Relationship Diagram in this tutorial. We provide a basic overview of ERDs and then gives step-by-step training on how to make an ER diagram with correct cardinality. Entity Relationship Diagrams are comprised of 3 main categories: entities, attributes, and relationships. Entities are objects or concepts that are associated with important data—like a customer, order, or product. Attributes represent properties or traits of an entity, such as a customer’s phone number or home address. Relationships demonstrate the link between entities. Another main aspect of of ERD's is cardinality, which further defines the relationship between entities in a numerical way. Certain symbols signify the minimum and maximum relationship between different entities. Part 1 How to find nth highest salary in sql

11:45
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-1-how-to-find-nth-highest-salary_17.html This is a very common SQL Server Interview Question. There are several ways of finding the nth highest salary. By the end of this video, we will be able to answer all the following questions as well. How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a Sub-Query How to find nth highest salary in SQL Server using a CTE How to find the 2nd, 3rd or 15th highest salary Let's use the following Employees table for this demo Use the following script to create Employees table Create table Employees ( ID int primary key identity, FirstName nvarchar(50), LastName nvarchar(50), Gender nvarchar(50), Salary int ) GO Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', 'Hastings', 'Male', 60000) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', 'Pound', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', 'Hoskins', 'Male', 70000) Insert into Employees values ('Philip', 'Hastings', 'Male', 45000) Insert into Employees values ('Mary', 'Lambeth', 'Female', 30000) Insert into Employees values ('Valarie', 'Vikings', 'Female', 35000) Insert into Employees values ('John', 'Stanmore', 'Male', 80000) GO To find the highest salary it is straight forward. We can simply use the Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees To get the second highest salary use a sub query along with Max() function as shown below. Select Max(Salary) from Employees where Salary [ (Select Max(Salary) from Employees) To find nth highest salary using Sub-Query SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM ( SELECT DISTINCT TOP N SALARY FROM EMPLOYEES ORDER BY SALARY DESC ) RESULT ORDER BY SALARY To find nth highest salary using CTE WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, DENSE_RANK() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS DENSERANK FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT TOP 1 SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE DENSERANK = N To find 2nd highest salary we can use any of the above queries. Simple replace N with 2. Similarly, to find 3rd highest salary, simple replace N with 3. Please Note: On many of the websites, you may have seen that, the following query can be used to get the nth highest salary. The below query will only work if there are no duplicates. WITH RESULT AS ( SELECT SALARY, ROW_NUMBER() OVER (ORDER BY SALARY DESC) AS ROWNUMBER FROM EMPLOYEES ) SELECT SALARY FROM RESULT WHERE ROWNUMBER = 3

What is a Bump Stock? Should it be illegal?!

06:45
How does a bump stock work? This video will demonstrate how a bumpstock works when attached to a Semi-Automatic AR-15. This has been in the news quite a bit lately as the United States government holds hearings on whether this gun accessory should be banned. This video shows how a Bump Stock works, and what it can accomplish while attached to an AR-15. It is currently illegal for private United states citizens to own a fully automatic firearm. (As of 1986) BUT bump stocks are only an accessory to a rifle, and don't actually alter the gun to fire automatically. So they are totally legal as of the posting of this video, anyone can buy one, and anyone can shoot with one. The question is: Should it stay legal? or should this accessory be regulated? 2014 Dodge Charger R/T 0-60 4.73 Seconds

01:58
I've been waiting to make this video for the best possible conditions and today was the day. READ THIS UPDATE AS OF 01/04/2016- A commenter brought it to my attention the timer jumps to each second after .30. The reason for this is because the timer is going off of frames and running at 30fps. Example of correct timing for run #1 = 60 mph at the 22nd frame out of 30 frames (per second). Meaning the 22nd frame of a 30fps timer will always happen at (22/30) 73% of a second, or, .73 seconds which means the run actually comes out to a 4.73 Honestly I'm surprised no one else caught this until today, especially me. Splitting the clip in the editing software also confirms this and you're welcome to time the runs with your phone or any other device to confirm but this is indeed correct. REAL TIMES OF ALL FOUR RUNS: Run 1 = 4.73 Run 2 = 5.06 Run 3 = 5.40 Run 4 = 5.03 Here is all the info regarding the car and runs: Outside Temperature: 62 degrees Fahrenheit/cloudy Humidity: 31% Car Info: 2014 Dodge Charger R/T Blacktop Edition Only a quarter tank of gas (93 Octane) I weigh about 150lbs Spare tire still in the trunk Sport Mode ON + Paddle shifters enabled Traction Control off for the first two runs and on for the second two A/C Turned OFF Car Mods: Air Raid Cold Air Intake Magnaflow Exhaust (Just mufflers and a resonator delete) 3.06 Gears (Came with the Blacktop Package) - These make a huge difference over the stock R/T Chargers Continental Extreme Contact DW Tires (245/45/20) Billet Technology Oil Catch Can Driver mod? :) About the Runs: Run #1 was honestly flawless. The quick burnout before the run made for a launch with zero wheel spin. I'm really surprised I was able to hit 4.73 but I knew in the moment it felt quick. For my car basically being stock I believe I hold the fastest 0-60 time for an R/T Charger or Challenger that is NOT tuned or heavily modified. Run #2 was almost a burnout all the way to 40mph - spinning ain't winning. Run #3 also had a hard time putting the power to the ground. Run #4 felt pretty good despite the slight wheel spin at the launch, I'd say this run was a good "average" run for the car. How was the timing done? The stopwatch seen in the video is a plug in through my editing software which basically means there is zero room for error as it counts frame by frame. I would start the timing right when the speedometer left 0mph and would stop it right when the speedometer said 60mph. Example of correct timing for run #1 = 60 mph at the 22nd frame out of 30 frames (per second). Meaning the 22nd frame of a 30fps timer will always happen at (22/30) 73% of a second, or, .73 seconds which means the run actually comes out to a 4.73 I hope this clears up any questions but feel free to leave a comment if you have any additional ones. Part 2 SQL query to get organization hierarchy

10:14
Link for all dot net and sql server video tutorial playlists http://www.youtube.com/user/kudvenkat/playlists Link for slides, code samples and text version of the video http://csharp-video-tutorials.blogspot.com/2014/05/part-2-sql-query-to-get-organization.html To get the best out of this video, the following concepts need to be understood first. These are already discussed in SQL Server Tutorial. 1. Self-Join - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qnYSN_7qwgg 2. CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXB5b-7HJHk 3. Recursive CTE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGoV0wTMCg0 Here is the problem definition: 1. Employees table contains the following columns a) EmployeeId, b) EmployeeName c) ManagerId 2. If an EmployeeId is passed, the query should list down the entire organization hierarchy i.e who is the manager of the EmployeeId passed and who is managers manager and so on till full hierarchy is listed. For example, Scenario 1: If we pass David's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from David. Scenario 2: If we pass Lara's EmployeeId to the query, then it should display the organization hierarchy starting from Lara. We will be Employees table for this demo. SQL to create and populate Employees table with test data Create table Employees ( EmployeeID int primary key identity, EmployeeName nvarchar(50), ManagerID int foreign key references Employees(EmployeeID) ) GO Insert into Employees values ('John', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Mark', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Steve', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Tom', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Lara', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Simon', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('David', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Ben', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Stacy', NULL) Insert into Employees values ('Sam', NULL) GO Update Employees Set ManagerID = 8 Where EmployeeName IN ('Mark', 'Steve', 'Lara') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 2 Where EmployeeName IN ('Stacy', 'Simon') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 3 Where EmployeeName IN ('Tom') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 5 Where EmployeeName IN ('John', 'Sam') Update Employees Set ManagerID = 4 Where EmployeeName IN ('David') GO Here is the SQL that does the job Declare @ID int ; Set @ID = 7; WITH EmployeeCTE AS ( Select EmployeeId, EmployeeName, ManagerID From Employees Where EmployeeId = @ID UNION ALL Select Employees.EmployeeId , Employees.EmployeeName, Employees.ManagerID From Employees JOIN EmployeeCTE ON Employees.EmployeeId = EmployeeCTE.ManagerID ) Select E1.EmployeeName, ISNULL(E2.EmployeeName, 'No Boss') as ManagerName From EmployeeCTE E1 LEFT Join EmployeeCTE E2 ON E1.ManagerID = E2.EmployeeId
