What Does "Organic" Mean, and Should You Buy Organic Foods?

There’s a lot of confusion over what organic means, and food with that label might not be as healthy or environmentally friendly as you think. Organic Food: Healthy Or Great Myth?

09:12
Is organic food actually better? We all automatically assume that organic food equals healthy, eco-friendly, and nutritious. Yet several studies claim that "organic" doesn't necessarily stand for "the best." According to a 2015 Consumer Reports study, organic products are on average 47% more costly than their non-organic alternatives. But manufacturing organic products is only 5 to 7% more expensive than producing conventional foods. In addition, the meaning of the term "organic" differs from country to country due to varying standards. In some places, product quality monitoring can be so poor that organic food won't be any different from the other kind. So let's take a look at whether or not organic really is better for you or if it’s just one big trendy scam! Since then, this number has been growing steadily by about 10% each year. - The most obvious difference between these two types of products is in the way they’re made. When they produce organic food, farmers don't use any hormones, genetic modification, antibiotics, or artificial chemicals like synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. - A 2010 study conducted by the University of Guelph discovered that some organic pesticides could have a much worse influence on the environment than regular ones. - 95% of people who go organic do this to protect themselves from pesticides. But they don't realize that since organic fruits and veggies are entirely GMO-free, they’re less resistant than their modified counterparts. - The biggest problem in all of this is that nowadays, organic farming has become a profitable business for big corporations and not local farmers. As a result, companies use machinery that emits greenhouse gases and, thus, contributes to the pollution of the planet. - In 2009, the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition also compared a bunch of different studies and came to the conclusion that organic products don't have any extra nutritional value in comparison with conventional ones. - the content and nutritional value of different fruits and vegetables depend on all kinds of factors besides an “organic” label, such as weather and climate conditions or the quality of the soil. As for crops, their characteristics may change according to the period when they were harvested. - Buy products that have the USDA seal on them. Always try to avoid unlabeled foods. - Some of the best organic products you can find are locally grown ones. First of all, in most cases, they have more flavor to them because farmers pick these products as soon as they're ready to eat. - Do NOT buy organic seafood. Nowadays, the USDA doesn't have any particular regulations or labeling standards for shellfish and fish. - When choosing fish and other seafood, opt not for organic but for ones that don’t contain large amounts of harmful substances. They include scallops, herring, shrimp, crayfish, crab, tilapia, oysters, catfish, and haddock. And everywhere we are urged to eat organic: it's more nutritious, pesticide-free, and protects animals and the environment. At least, that's what we are being told – or rather, sold. And thanks to a lot of very effective marketing, many people believe it. That's why, when researchers at Cornell University gave study participants a choice between two identical items, one labeled "organic" and one "regular," the participants confidently declared the "organic" choice to be lower in calories and more nutritious. They also said they'd pay 16 to 23 percent more for the organic choice. But these beliefs about organic food have nothing to do with reality. In 2012, Stanford University's Center for Health Policy did the most comprehensive comparison and found organic foods are not nutritionally superior to conventional alternatives. And a more recent review of 20 years of research into animal products by Italian researchers confirmed these findings. The authors concluded: "Scientific studies do not show that organic products are more nutritious and safer than conventional foods." That's fine, you might say. You don't eat organic foods just because of the health benefits, but because you care about the treatment of farm animals and of the environment. Unfortunately, the facts don't support these beliefs either. Animals on organic farms are not generally healthier than regular farms. A five-year US study of dairy farms showed that "health outcomes [for animals on organic farms] are similar to conventional dairies." And the Norwegian Scientific Committee for Food Safety reached a similar conclusion. It found "no difference in objective disease occurrence" on organic dairy farms as compared to conventional dairies. And while pigs and poultry on organic farms may enjoy better access to open areas, this freedom, studies show, also increases their exposure to parasites, pathogens and predators. As for the environment, yes, organic farming will mean that in any one field, a farmer will use less energy and create fewer greenhouse gases. But there's a problem here. By forgoing fertilizers and pesticides, organic farming is much, much less efficient than standard farming, which means that organic farmers need much more land to grow the same amount of food. A major study in Europe found that to produce the same gallon of milk organically, you need 59% more land. To produce meat, you need 82% more land. And for crops, it’s more than 200%. And more land for agriculture means less land for nature. If U.S. agricultural production was entirely organic, it would mean we would need to convert an area bigger than the size of California entirely to farmland. Economically, the lower productivity of organics means we have to commit more resources - land, labor and capital. The total cost to the US economy of going organic would run to about $200 billion annually. For the complete script, visit https://www.prageru.com/videos/organic-food-worth-cost

Organic food - hype or hope? | DW Documentary

42:33
There is growing demand in the western world for organic food. But do consumers always get what it says on the label? How can authenticity be verified? Is organic food automatically healthier? Consumers are prepared to pay a significant premium for it. There are currently, however, no reliable tests for distinguishing organic from conventionally produced food. Farmers need to invest a great deal of time, energy and money to qualify as a producer of organic food. There is no proof, however, that organic food actually contains fewer contaminants than conventionally farmed products. There is no such thing as pollution-free food, and there are currently no tests available for reliably distinguishing between organic and non-organic food. That opens doors for lucrative labeling fraud, which in turn explains why there are far more organic eggs on the market at Easter than at any other time of the year. The statistics clearly suggest manipulation, but it is hard to obtain evidence due to the differences between the two production processes appearing to have little effect on the quality of the product. Irish dairy farmers, for instance, are not allowed to label their milk "organic" because the pasture land where their herds spend more than 300 days a year are treated with mineral fertilizers. Because cows are themselves bioreactors, however, the milk they yield contains no trace at all of fertilizer. On average, conventional Irish milk contains more omega 3 fatty acids and antioxidants than organic milk from Germany. The reason is the fodder; German organic farms may use only concentrates and silage as supplementary feed to increase milk output - which impacts negatively on the quality of the milk. This documentary looks at researchers who are studying potential ways of reliably distinguishing between organic and conventionally produced food. And that is no easy task. Nearly every foodstuff requires a specific test. But one thing is certain: organic farming makes a major contribution to human welfare - by helping to mitigate climate change, protect the groundwater, conserve nature and promote animal welfare. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Is Organic Food Better for Your Health?

Many of my friends and family will only touch organic food. That's their right, and I don't try to fight with them. I sometimes get uncomfortable, though, when they make claims about organic food that just aren't supported by data and evidence. Moreover, I think arguing with anyone who is attempting to eat more fruits and vegetables that theirs are in some way "not good enough" is counter-productive. Organic Food Science: What Does Organic Mean and is Organic Food Healthier?

To support our channel and level up your health, check out: Our Fast Weight Loss Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/the-science-of-fast-weight-loss-course Our Better Health Basics Course: http://thehealthnerds.com/food-health-happiness Like us on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thehealthnerds/ PRODUCE GUIDE: https://snaped.fns.usda.gov/seasonal-produce-guide On this video, we will be covering organic food, what does organic mean, and answering the question of is organic food healthier. And at the end we’re going to discuss what foods are the most important to eat organic. Let’s get started by answering the question of what does organic mean? Organic food is food produced with the standards of organic farming. Standards vary worldwide, but they general mean food produced without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. http://www.organic.org/home/faq Animals products only qualify as organic if they do not take antibiotics or hormones during their development. Now I should clarify, pesticides can be used by organic farmers on crops, just as long as they are derived from natural sources and are not synthetically created. https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/organic Because mass producing crops without ANY pesticides would be a nightmare with wasted food in epic proportions. As my home boys over at ASAP Science so aptly put, just because a bag of chips has the “organic” label on them, does not make them healthy. Cookies, chips, and ice cream are not suddenly good for you because they are organic. But when people ask is organic food healthier, they are usually asking for a comparison of foods like veggies, fruits, and certain animal products. The scientific data we have is actually VERY so split on this issue: The reason: Money money money. MONEY. Monsanto, the famous poster child for evil pesticide producers, makes over 4.5 BILLION dollars in sales yearly and spends an average of 5 million dollars a year in public lobbying. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monsanto When most people say that organic is not healthier for you, they usually cite a Stanford Review done in 2012 that came to conclusion that organic foods are not more nutritious than conventional foods. http://annals.org/aim/article/1355685/organic-foods-safer-healthier-than-conventional-alternatives-systematic-review Although, the study did concede that organic does limit the exposure or pesticides and antibiotic resistant bacteria. A new study published in the British Journal of Nutrition is the latest addition to the debate. It’s the largest meta-analysis that has been published on this topic, covering 343 individual studies looking into organic food. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/26878105 One of the major conclusions found organic foods could boost a person’s antioxidant intake by up to 40%. One thing in favor of eating organic that these studies can not refute is reducing the amount of pesticides being ingested… On average, pesticides like cadmium had levels 400% lower, respectively, in organic produce than in conventional varieties. Since cadmium is a highly toxic metal that has been linked to an increased risk of everything from Alzheimer’s disease, cardiovascular disease, and hormone disruption, it’s probably a good idea to minimize cadmium in your diet. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24557150 Other study’s have also linked pesticide exposure in children to ADHD and other development problems like low IQ. http://content.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1989564,00.html https://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/04/21/pesticide-exposure-in-womb-affects-i-q/?_r=0 So, are organic foods healthier for you? Yes! In some studies, they have slightly more nutrients and do minimize our exposure to synthetic pesticides, antibiotics, and hormones added to what we eat. So should everyone eat organic? Not really. Cost is an issue for many people. #1. It seems animal products are more important to be organic than veggies. #2. Frozen organic foods are always a little cheaper #3. Use the clean 15 and dirty dozen list for fruits and veggies The Clean 15 are non-organic foods that have minimal pesticide exposure • Avocados • Sweet Corn • Pineapples • Cabbage • Frozen Sweet Peas • Onions • Asparagus • Mangos • Papayas • Kiwi • Eggplant • Honey Dew • Grapefruit • Cantelope • Cauliflower The dirty dozen on the other hand are the foods that have a lot of pesticide load if consumed non-organic. These foods are: • Strawberries • Apples • Nectarines • Peaches • Celery • Grapes • Cherries • Spinach • Tomatoes • Sweet bell peppers • Cherry tomatoes • Cucumbers Cheers!

Organic Food Labeling: How To Tell If Packaged Food Is Organic

01:33
http://www.howdini.com/howdini-video-6697067.html Confused by organic food labeling? Author and organic food expert Anna Lappe explains what the terminology means. Organic Food Labeling: How To Tell If Packaged Food Is Organic Sometimes it's hard to distinguish organic food by its packaging. Fresh produce is easier...it either is or isn't organically grown. But packaged foods are trickier. Here's what you need to know about organic food labels: * Look for the USDA certified organic seal. This means at least 95% of the ingredients are organic. * If you see a label that says 70% organic, that means that 70% of the ingredients are organic. * If the product has less than 70% organic ingredients, it can't feature an organic label, so you have to read the ingredients on the package. Don't be fooled by products that you think are organic because their names or packaging look like they are.

Is organic food really better for you?

05:47
Over the past 25 years the demand for organic food has increased rapidly in developed countries such as Europe, Asia and North America (Willer & Lernoud, 2016). However, whether organic food can truly benefit human health remains questionable. Organic food is food produced under the standard of organic farming that involves strictly controlled usage of pesticides, fertilizers, genetically modified organisms, antibiotics and growth hormones. The term was firstly invented in the 1940's to deliver the concept of "the farm as organism", describing a holistic, ecologically friendly method of farming as an alternative to chemical farming, which relies on artificial fertilizers (Scofield, 1986). Many recent systematic review studies and meta-analyses have identified differences in the nutritional composition between organic and conventional food. This included the higher composition of antioxidant and omega-3 fatty acids and lower cadmium and pesticide levels (Barański et al., 2014). Results from smaller human cohort studies have also revealed a positive correlation between organic food consumption and reduced risk of several diseases including pre-eclampsia, hypospadias and obesity (Barański, Rempelos, Iversen, & Leifert, 2017). However, despite the promising results from these studies, there is a major lack of data based on long-term studies that focus on chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. Also, there is a lack of data based on controlled human dietary studies that comparie organic and conventional diet. This video educates the general public on the concept of organic food, presents recent evidence that showcase the benefits of organic food and discusses the limitations of studies. Overall, although the benefit of organic food for human health is supported by some evidence, much research is still required to determine if the impact is significant. Standards vary worldwide, but organic farming in general features practices that strive to cycle resources, promote ecological balance, and conserve biodiversity. Organizations regulating organic products may restrict the use of certain pesticides and fertilizers in farming. In general, organic foods are also usually not processed using irradiation, industrial solvents or synthetic food additives Currently, the European Union, the United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and many other countries require producers to obtain special certification in order to market food as organic within their borders. In the context of these regulations, organic food is produced in a way that complies with organic standards set by regional organizations, national governments and international organizations. Although the produce of kitchen gardens may be organic, selling food with an organic label is regulated by governmental food safety authorities, such as the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) or European Commission (EC) There is not sufficient evidence in medical literature to support claims that organic food is safer or healthier than conventionally grown food. While there may be some differences in the nutrient and antinutrient contents of organically- and conventionally-produced food, the variable nature of food production and handling makes it difficult to generalize results.claims that organic food tastes better are generally not supported by evidence. The Effect of Organic Food

01:35
Is Organic food just a fad or a buzzword? This family doesn't eat organic food because it costs more than conventional food and it just isn't convenient. The Experiment. For the next two weeks this family decided to eat only organic and measure the effect. Before they begin, the family takes urine samples and discover they have a number of insecticides, fungicides and plant growth regulators inside their bodies. Chloremequat chloride Mepiquat 3-PBA TCP They are not too happy when they discover they've not only been eating pesticides, but that these chemicals have taken up residence inside their bodies. So they clear the cupboards and switch to organic for this fascinating 2-week experiment. At the end of the two weeks, they tested their urine again and discovered that nearly all traces of the pesticides had completely vanished. Watch the video and share the news! 25 Surprising Facts About Organic Food That You Might Want To Know

25 Surprising Facts About Organic Food That You Might Want To Know | List25 Want more? Check out the Food Playlist: http://bit.ly/2f6XZiy If you like this video subscribe to List25: http://bit.ly/1rPhSQH The term Organic is applied to food grown without harsh pesticides or certain types of pesticides (yes, it also means any carbon based life form, but that's not the definition we're working with today), and in the United States it's a huge business. There are a myriad of reasons why one might choose to eat Organic food - they have a disease like cancer or an autoimmune disorder; they have small children; or they simply don't wish to put a bunch of synthetic chemicals into their bodies. Some scoff at the Organic trend, saying that the amounts of pesticides that remain in our conventionally grown (non-organic) food aren't a big deal, and if they were The Government would do something about it, while others claim it's simply foolishness to pay more for say, a red pepper, because a farmer grows it differently. Regardless of how you feel about Organic food and produce, one thing is for sure: Americans, by and large, have become profoundly disconnected from where their food comes from, and what it takes to get it to the grocery store. So to shed a little light on at least the Organic portion of your shopping cart, here are 25 Surprising Facts About Organic Food That You Might Want To Know. Follow us on: Twitter: https://twitter.com/list25 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/list25 Website: http://list25.com Instagram: https://instagram.com/list25/ Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/list25/ Check out the physical list here: http://list25.com/25-surprising-facts-about-organic-food/ Contrary to popular belief, and contrary to what the name implies, pesticides are allowed in the growing of USDA Organic approved foods. There are over 40 pesticides on the allowable list that a farm can use and still get the USDA Organic stamp. So if not having pesticides is really important to you, know where your food comes from and what farms use pest control you agree with. Most organic food travels over a thousand miles to get from the farm to your grocery store, and many organics still come from countries like Mexico and China, so if you're eating organic to help the earth, you may want to pay as much attention to where your food comes from. Processed foods labeled as "Organic" - say oatmeal or cookies - can contain up to 5% non-organic ingredients and still qualify to carry the USDA "Organic" label. There aren't any Federal regulations for sustainable or organic seafood because you can't really regulate the ocean contents. So unless it's verified by a third party or farmed seafood, anything that says "Organic" as far as fish and shellfish are concerned is at best bending the truth. It should, however, be noted that there are third parties that rate seafood for sustainability, but again, there's not a US Government standard for this. Bacteria content for organically grown and conventionally grown produce is about the same, according to researchers at Stanford. However, conventionally raised and produced animal products were about 33% more likely to contain antibiotic resistant microbes. Eek! It's still really important to thoroughly wash organic produce. Bacteria is different from pesticides and can make you very sick. All produce has bacteria and dirt on it. Wash your food. And more... Organic food industry picks up pace in india

03:02
New Delhi, Feb 04 (ANI): Being natural and chemical free, are the two aspects which people in India look for their eating habits today…Same is the case for Amit and Mridhu Mahajan, who believe that organic market has come a long way, developing its space in the national market. Their store ‘Nirvaaha’ is one such stop which offers variety of organic vegetables, pulses, spices, cooking oils and other organic products. They believe that the trend of health consciousness among consumers has led to bring upsurge in the organic food sector. With variant income groups and region of the country, consumers for organic food products are increasing day by day with their acute awareness from health hazards of chemicals and pesticides. Organic food market, which was considered as a niche segment by the Indian consumers, has now transformed into full-fledged industry with high growth potential. It has shown a growth at a CAGR of 30.7 per cent over the period of FY’2009-FY’2014. And, according to the recent report released by ASSOCHAM, the organic food market is estimated to rise from 402 million USD to 965 million USD in 2016.

Organic Food: Rooted in Lies? - Professor Carolyn Roberts

59:54
Organic food production is environmentally benign, better for animal welfare, has human health benefits and tastes better - or so say its proponents. Conversely, detractors allege that the rising global population cannot be fed without using artificial fertilisers, herbicides and pesticides, that the environmental impact is slight and manageable, and that organic consumers are being duped by farmers. With a global market approaching 70 billion, theres a lot at stake. Including some blind taste tests, the environmental science evidence behind organic farming will be reviewed, exploring facts and debunking a few myths. Why organic food is the future? | Ashmeet Kapoor | TEDxLeh

10:40
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Contemporary lifestyle has for a few generations neglected the essence of life, i.e. food. Not just in terms of nutrition and what we consume, but how irresponsible every step of the production process is - toxic chemicals used on the farms and the effect on the entire ecosystem (soil, water, biodiversity), farmer incomes continually dwindling, wastage in distribution, long term health impacts on consumers. Organic food production along with efficient distribution can go a long way in solving these issues, with consumer demand as the core driving force. Ashmeet is the founder of I Say Organic, a company working towards making organic products in India conveniently available and accessible, with the larger vision of helping create a movement for sustainable production & responsible consumption. Ashmeet has been focused on developing market driven approaches to fight poverty and previously he was a founding member at an early stage company designing a water purification device for rural communities. He started I Say Organic after moving back to India from the US and traveling widely across the country, which inspired him to tap into the enormous potential agriculture presents to create prosperity, while addressing the various environmental and economic threats the country faces. Ashmeet holds a Masters in Innovation Management & Entrepreneurship from Brown University, and Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from University of British Columbia. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

What Does "Organic" and "Natural" Mean in the U.S.?

03:33
If you live in the US you've probably seen different sections in the grocery store for organic and conventional foods. So what is the difference? What most people understand organic to mean is food produced without the use of any synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. The opposite of that is conventionally produced food, which uses all kinds of substances to artificially boost production. But really, the definition of organic goes way beyond pesticides and fertilizers. When you see an organic food label in the US, it means that the food is not irradiated, genetically modified, does not have artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. If the product is from animals, an organic label means the product does not have any hormones, antibiotics and the animal was not raised in a cage. There are also requirements for how organic produce is grown such as how the soil is treated, how pests and diseases are dealt with, what types of seeds and seedlings can be used and how the food is handled. For livestock with the organic label they have to be fed only organic feed, have access to the out of doors, clean water, sunlight and the ability to move freely. This is no the same as free range however, or the term grass fed, or cage free. You may have noticed that some labels say "organic" while others say "100% Organic" or "Made with Organic Ingredients." The different labels relate to the different percentages of organic ingredients. So obviously if something says it is 100% organic, then all its ingredients have to be organic, but if it just says "Organic", up to 5% by weight of the ingredients could be non-organic. For example if a loaf of bread is made with organic flour, but uses baking powder, which is not organic, then it could still be labeled organic. The only requirement for the remaining 5%is that it can't be genetically modified. For food that says "Made with Organic Ingredients, that means that 70% of the ingredients are Organic. Now, even if some ingredients under the organic label aren't organic, they still have to be on a list of approved ingredients by the FDA, and the producer has to prove that there is no commercially available organic alternative. The certification for a farm to be organic can take up to three years and thousands of dollars. As you can imagine, not all farms can afford that, especially since a producer can't sell at the organic while it's in the process of being certified. This means that while the stall at your local farmers market may not be able to say they are certified organic, they may be more qualified for the label than ones that are certified. The other health label that you probably see often is "All Natural" or "Natural". This word actually isn't regulated unless it is put on eggs or meat. In that case the USDA says it means "minimally processed and containing no artificial ingredients." What minimally processed means I guess is open to interpretation, but it doesn't really matter on things like peanut butter or fruit because it isn't regulated anyways. As you can imagine, this has made a lot of people frustrated that the all natural products they choose aren't necessarily any better for them than conventional products. When we go to the grocery store we can be overwhelmed with all the choices but the one thing we don't have is a transparent production trail. Unless it's a farmers market , we are so disconnected from the place, people, animals and plants that make the food that we have to rely heavily on labels. While it's good that the organic certification exists, are the companies that produce organic doing it for the right reasons, or are they just trying to make more money? Will knowing what makes a food product organic change your buying habits? Let me know what you think in the comments section below and thanks for watching. inFact: Organic Food Myths

03:15
Everyone says organic food is better for you and better for the environment. But is that true, or is it just eco-marketing rhetoric? http://infactvideo.com Organic food is now a huge market segment, driven by consumer demand for food that's healthier. The biggest misconception held by many organic lovers is that organic produce is not grown with fertilizers or pesticides. That's simply wrong. Organic fertilizers and pesticides are manufactured by all the major producers. Pests attack crops whether they're certified organic or not; and all plants take nutrients out of the soil that have to be replaced. Many think organic farms handle that through soil management. And so they do, but so do all farms. Every farm rotates crops as much as possible to keep the soil healthy and reduce pest proliferation; by no means is this unique to organics. It's been a farming fundamental for centuries. Chemicals are one of a farm's biggest expenses, and both organic and conventional farms strive to reduce that expense. Modern agriculture depends on efficient fertilizers that deliver the needed nutrient load with a minimum of waste and runoff; and newly developed seed strains that thrive with less fertilizer and that are naturally resistant to pests. Organic practices, however, prohibit both of these innovations, restricting farmers to less efficient fertilizers made from post-consumer and animal waste, and banning the use of the newest crop strains. Why? Because that's what organic is. It was never about farming in the best way we know how; it's about farming in a particular way, that rejects modern developments. The National Organic Program is managed under the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service. Organic is about marketing, not about science, not about health. Not that there's anything wrong with that. If organic is what you want, great, enjoy; that's why the food producers are making it for us, because people want it, and it's great to have such choices. At the end of the day, there's no real difference. The Internet's full of videos where volunteers can't tell organic from conventional produce in blinded tests. Daily variations in produce quality are much larger than any inherent difference between organic and conventional. And yes, you can find studies that show organic food is healthier, but to find them, you have to dig past a much larger number of studies that find no difference at all. Buy and enjoy whichever you prefer, just don't be fooled by bad science and marketing rhetoric.

What is Organic Food - The Many Benefits of Organic Food

09:07
What is Organic Food - The Many Benefits of Organic Food -- http://www.noahhammond.com Today is about health and why you absolutely, without a doubt, must start buying and eating organic food only. This is something that I just woke up to, I would say about a year ago. I know a lot of people are still in the dark about this so I felt that it was really something that I had to get out there. This is REALLY important and it is going to save you potentially a lot of strife down the road and a lot of health problems. The Benefits of Organic Food -- More than Health! The first obvious benefit is simply nutrition. The way that industrial farming is done, they plant the same crop on the same soil over and over and over and over again. They stuff it full of fertilizers and they do not allow the natural cycle of composting, decomposing, and crop cycling to occur. The way farming is supposed to be done is you farm a crop and then you allow the soil to replenish by composting and rejuvenating it with lots and lots of nutrients. To do that, you must allow organic material to decompose there. Then, you plant another crop and you cycle the crops so that you can keep doing this. In industrial farming, they do the exact opposite which is planting the same crops in the soil continuously. If you can compare this to anything, it would be trying to get all of your nutrition from vitamins only. It simply does not work. Your body can't take only vitamins and get what it needs. In fact, vitamins are BAD for you. The same thing happens when they try to stuff the soil with fertilizers to make these plants have the nutrition they need. The end result is that the food they grow, while it LOOKS the same, its nutritional value is NOWHERE near the same. The most extreme example of this is a study they did at Rutgers University where tomatoes that were grown organically had about 2,000 parts per billion of iron to one, compared to only 1 part per billion in the non-organic tomatoes. Obviously, if you were eating tomatoes thinking you were getting your iron (essential for our health and balance), you were wrong. The inorganic tomatoes do not even have any because they are not even in the soil. So, number one is nutrition. What is that going to affect? It is going to affect disease. Diseases come only from two things - either TOXICITY or DEFICIENCY. If you don't get your vitamins and minerals, you become deficient. If you are deficient for long enough, your body can't maintain balance and you are going to get diseases. So, not eating organic food is going to cause you to have more disease. This is just proven. This is just factual. The tests are out there. The data is out there. So you want to get organic food for that alone. Now, another thing you want to understand is that the pesticides they use on these inorganic plants. They are very difficult to get off the food and a lot of times people do not prepare and scrub as diligently as they need to. You end up consuming these chemicals. At this point, it's even showing up in people's urine. It's showing up all over the place. People are really just getting inundated with these HARMFUL chemicals. That's going to cause toxicity. Again, you can only get sick or get disease as a result of toxicity or deficiency. Therefore, from the lack of nutrients, you'll have deficiency and from the chemicals, you'll get toxicity. So, inorganic food is a double whammy right there. Lastly and really most CRITICALLY, is that inorganic food can be genetically modified which other countries around the world have banned. In the United States though, we are inundated with it. A HUGE quantity of our food supplies are genetically modified, especially from corporations like Monsanto. These genetically modified foods are proven to cause CANCER and other issues. They are abundant in our food supply. So, if you are not buying organic and natural foods, you are likely getting something that was farmed in a way that it has almost has no nutrition, that is covered in pesticides and other harmful chemicals, and then it is genetically modified in a way that does not deliver to your body what it needs and actually causes cancer. All three of those combined could be a really, really powerful case for trying to buy only organic foods. Now I only eat organic foods and I have actually developed the ability to tell when I am eating something that is not organic. My body can sense the difference in nutrition. It is actually blatantly OBVIOUS to me at this point. I know this to be true from experience, not just from reading...
