Deep Sea Creatures [National Geographic Documentary 2017 HD]

53:56
Deep Sea Creatures [National Geographic Documentary 2017 HD] The Deep sea creature refers to organisms that live below the photic zone of the ocean. These creatures must survive in extremely harsh conditions, such as hundreds of bars of pressure, small amounts of oxygen, very little food, no sunlight, and constant, extreme cold. Most creatures have to depend on food floating down from above. These creatures live in very demanding environments, such as the abyssal or hadal zones, which, being thousands of meters below the surface, are almost completely devoid of light. The water is between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius and has low oxygen levels. Due to the depth, the pressure is between 20 and 1,000 bars. Creatures that live hundreds or even thousands of meters deep in the ocean have adapted to the high pressure, lack of light, and other factors. The depths of the ocean are festooned with the most nightmarish creatures imaginable. You might think you’re safe, because these critters live thousands of feet down in a cold dark abyss, but the vampire squid, which looks like a nightmare umbrella, and the frilled shark—a literal living fossil—will live on in the recesses of your mind long after you’ve clicked away. Enjoy these deep sea horrors and try to have a relaxing day afterward. ► NOTE : I'm a big fan of National Geographic and I just collect the best parts of National Geographic. I do not make money from National Geographic's Video. Thanks You very much

Deep Sea Fish Farming in Geodesic Domes: Upgrade

10:03
In this episode of Upgrade, Motherboard goes to Baja California, Mexico to get a firsthand look at these free floating pods, and to get an understanding for why we need better ways to cultivate our future food sources. Whether it’s found on a plate of sushi, grilled in our backyard, or thrown on pasta, seafood is a staple for many diets around the world, and demand is growing. And as the commercial seafood industry booms, fish stocks worldwide face perilous declines. We’ve surpassed our capacity to sustainably fish wild caught fish, shrimp, and mollusks from the ocean, and so we’ve turned to aquaculture, or fish farming, as a strategy to meet demand for our growing appetites for water-borne critters. The aquaculture industry is growing fast. According to the FAO, per capita production of seafood from aquaculture has increased 6.9 percent annually since 1970. Unfortunately for us and for our Earth, current methods of fish farming often involve crowded, tethered pens, which can have poor water circulation and contribute to the spread of disease, and put large amounts of environmental stress on the surrounding waterways. This is where Steve Page of Ocean Farm Technologies comes in. Taking inspiration from naturally-occurring schools of fish and Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes, Page co-designed the Aquapod, a free floating, untethered deep ocean fish habitat which reduces overcrowding, and creates less stress on surrounding environments due to its unique ability to change location with the ocean's current. Most SPOOKY Sea Creatures In The World!

Check out the Most SPOOKY Sea Creatures In The Ocean! From terrifying deep sea monsters to mysterious and bizarre animals, this top 10 list of weird ocean creatures will amaze you! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "REAL Mermaid Sightings Around The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/ChM0CBRmVsM Watch our "10 Sea Monsters ATTACKING A Boat!" video here: https://youtu.be/0XROvoPCDNc Watch our "STRANGEST Animals People Keep As Pets!" video here: https://youtu.be/OMa96nPqz-Y 7. Northern Stargazer Astroscopus guttatus is a strange-looking fish that’s known more commonly as the Northern Stargazer. In paradoxical contrast to its romantic-sounding name, the Northern Stargazer is, for lack of a better term, unattractive, if not downright homely. It dwells at the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay and along the eastern seaboard of the United States, from North Carolina to New York, in waters up to 120 feet deep. So if you live around here, keep an eye out! 6. Giant Squid Until 2006, the existence of the giant squid was considered to be barely more realistic than that of the Yeti, the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch, and dozens of other creatures that were rumored to exist, but remained largely relegated to mythological status. The only thing that placed the giant squid a notch or two above the rest of those creatures were the scars left on whales and the discovery of their carcasses by fishermen after having floated to the water’s surface. 5. Black Dragonfish The black dragonfish is a deep-sea dweller that resides about 2,000 meters below the ocean’s surface. The amazing thing about this guy is that is represents one of the most extreme cases of sexual dimorphism, which refers to a distinct difference between the sexes in size or appearance that exceeds the fundamental difference between sexual organs. 4. Deep Sea Anglerfish Like the black dragonfish, male deep sea anglerfish are smaller than females. In this case, some male species of anglerfish are parasitic, and subsist by attaching themselves to the body of a female. While they may not have a gut, they do have teeth! 3. Goblin Shark The goblin shark is a rare species of deep-sea shark. It’s the only surviving relative of a 125-million-year-old lineage known as the family Mitsukurinidae. Because of this, the goblin shark has earned the nickname “living fossil.” The goblin shark’s distinctive appearance is creepy to begin with: it’s pink-skinned with an elongated, flattened snout that resembles a sword blade. 2. Blobfish Our next spooky sea creature is, quite possibly, the world’s ugliest animal. I don’t know, between this and the deep sea angler fish, which one do you think?? Let me know in the comments below!! It goes through life doing exactly what you’d probably expect a blob to do - not much. In the deep waters off the coasts of Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand that it calls home, the blobfish survives essentially by drifting around on the ocean floor at great depths and eating whatever appears in front of it, namely deepwater crustaceans. 1. Frilled Shark At first glance, the frilled shark looks like something you might see in a science fiction movie - perhaps, for example, an unlikely hybrid between an eel and a shark. The frilled shark however, is real. Like the goblin shark, it’s often referred to as a “living fossil,” a nickname that alludes to the minimal change the species has undergone since prehistoric times. Most Unusual Fish in the Ocean

10:03
The ocean is home to the most bizarre creatures on earth from the fish with a snake's head to one-eyed freaks of nature! 6- Salp Salp or salpa is a barrel-shaped, planktonic tunicate that moves by contracting and then pumping water through its gelatinous body. The system of jet propulsion used by salp is one of the animal kingdoms most efficient. While pumping water through its body the internal feeding filters allow it to feed on phytoplankton. Salp can be found in equatorial water, temperate and even in cold seas. They can be seen on the surface, singly although usually in long, stringy colonies. They are found in their greatest numbers in the Southern Ocean near to Antarctica. In the deep waters of the Southern Ocean they are known to form enormous swarms and are more abundant than krill. A single salp is between 1 and 10 cm tall and a single creature can asexually produce tens of thousands of individuals which will be released from the parent at a small size. They remain attached to each other in the chain, feeding and growing until the food sources becomes too inadequate to sustain the chain. 5- Lancetfish The lancet fish is a large predatory fish also known as a scale-less lizard due to its appearance. They can grow up to 2m in length although little is known about this fish except that it is found in all the world’s oceans except the Polar Regions. They have been recorded as far north as Greenland and are often caught by vessels fishing for tuna. There are two species of lancetfish, the short snouted and the long snouted. Both species have relatively long and pointed snouts. The short snouted lancetfish has a slightly shorter snout than the other species. The main feature of the lancet fish is its high and long dorsal fin. The dorsal fin contains 41 to 44 rays occupying the greater length of the fish’s back. The fin is twice as high as the fish is deep. The mouth is wide with two or three fang like teeth on each jaw with numerous smaller teeth. There are no scales present on this fish and the fins are very fragile. 4- Cornet fish Cornet fish are also known as flutemouth. There are four species that can be found in the tropical and temperate waters of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. They can be found on soft sea floors such as sand flats, sea grasses and coral reefs. They possess an elongated snout that ends with a mouth containing minute teeth. At the other end of their body is the end of the backbone extending to a forked tail fin. The largest cornet fish can grow to up to 2m in length. The blue spotted cornet fish and the red cornet fish are found in the Oceans of the Atlantic and western Pacific as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The reef cornet fish and deepwater cornet fish are primarily found in the eastern Pacific Ocean. 3- Armored Searobin The armored searobin is also known as the armored gurnard and is found in deep waters of the world’s tropical regions. They are related to the family of searobins in the Triglidae family. They are different from searobins in that they are encased in heavy scales that feature prominent spines. They also have prominent barbells on their chins. They have large pectoral fins which when they are swimming open and close like a birds wings in flight. They are able to glide short distances above the surface of the water, similar to that of a flying fish. They prefer to be in deeper water often down to 200m below the surface. They measure about 30 to 40 cm long, with a solid skull. When caught they make a croaking noise similar to a frog. 2- Mystery Fish This unknown fish was found in a fish market in Japan. It has been researched on several sites but remains without a name. So for this final entry into the unusual fish the question is being asked. Do you know what type of fish this is? Let us know in the comment section below! 1- Fish Snake The fish snake is also known as the snakehead and is a freshwater fish native to Africa and Asia. They are an elongated predator with long dorsal fins, large mouths and shiny teeth. The fish snake is also able to breathe air through its gills allowing them to cover short distances across land. The fish snake is a notorious intentionally released invasive species becoming very successful due in part to having no natural predators in those regions it has been introduced into. Adult fish snakes will eat other fish, frogs and occasionally small mammals such as rats. There are around 40 species of fish snake with the smallest being the dwarf snakehead growing to just 25cm or 10 inches. Most species grow to between 30 and 90 cm (12-35 inches). There are 5 species that reach in excess of 1m (3ft 3in).

Once prey is caught, their flexible teeth force the catch deeper into their mouths. They can grow more than two feet in length, and have both male and female organs which enables them to mate with any member of their species. Monster Goliath Groupers with NFL Linebacker Sam Barrington - 4K

11:28
In this episode of BlacktipH, Josh is joined once again by NFL star linebacker Sam Barrington from the Green Bay Packers to go fishing for monster goliath groupers off the coast of Florida. We started off the day catching bonito (false albacore) for bait. After catching half a dozen albies for bait, Sam was ready to start goliath grouper fishing. Sam hooked up to his first goliath grouper and immediately got yanked forward. After an intense short fight, Sam Barrington landed his first goliath grouper. The day ended with Sam catching four goliath groupers. Sam's friends Johan and Richard both caught a goliath grouper, adding up a total of six goliath groupers for the day. • Follow Sam on Instagram → http://bit.ly/instagram-sam • Follow Sam on Twitter → http://bit.ly/twitter-sam • Follow Sam on Snapchat → sambarrington ► Ceuticore Nutrition: http://bit.ly/ceuticore ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ ABOUT BLACKTIPH ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ BlacktipH Fishing brings you some of the most exciting fishing videos on the web. These Fish Are All About Sex on the Beach | Deep Look

During the highest tides, California grunion stampede out of the ocean to mate on the beach. When the party's over, thousands of tiny eggs are left stranded up in the sand. How will their lost babies make it back to the sea? SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK is a ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Get a new perspective on our place in the universe. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. * NEW VIDEOS EVERY OTHER TUESDAY! * With summer just around the corner, Southern California beaches are ready to welcome the yearly arrival of some very unique and amorous guests. That’s right, the grunion are running! California grunion are fish that spend their lives in the ocean. But when the tides are at their highest during spring and summer, grunion make a trip up onto beaches to mate and lay eggs. Grunion mate on beaches throughout southern California and down into into Mexico. The grunion runs have taken on a special importance to coastal communities Santa Barbara to San Diego. For some, coming out to see the grunion run has been an annual tradition for generations. For others it’s a rare chance to catch ocean fish with their bare hands. --- What are grunion? California grunion are schooling fish similar to sardines that live in the Pacific Ocean that emerge from the sea to lay their eggs on the sand of beaches in Southern California and down the Baja California Peninsula in Mexico. There are also smaller populations in Monterey Bay and San Francisco Bay. Another species, the Gulf Grunion lays their eggs in the northern shores of the Gulf of California. California Grunion are typically about six inches in length. --- Why do grunion mate on land? The ocean is full of predators who would like to gobble up a tasty fish egg. The grunion eggs tend to be safer up on the beach if they can make it there without raising the attention of predators like birds and raccoons. Grunion eggs have a tough outer layer that keeps them from drying out or being crushed by the sand. --- When do California grunion run? California grunion typically spawn from March to August. The fishing season is closed during the peak spawning times during May and June. Macropinna microstoma: A deep-sea fish with a transparent head and tubular eyes

01:29
MBARI researchers Bruce Robison and Kim Reisenbichler used video taken by unmanned, undersea robots called remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to study barreleye fish in the deep waters just offshore of Central California. At depths of 600 to 800 meters (2,000 to 2,600 feet) below the surface, the ROV cameras typically showed these fish hanging motionless in the water, their eyes glowing a vivid green in the ROV's bright lights. The ROV video also revealed a previously undescribed feature of these fish--its eyes are surrounded by a transparent, fluid-filled shield that covers the top of the fish's head. This video is narrated by senior scientist Bruce Robison. For more on this story, see MBARI's news release at: http://www.mbari.org/news/news_releases/2009/barreleye/barreleye.html For more cool animal images, see MBARI's feature images galleries: http://www.mbari.org/news/feature-image/feature-image-gallery-2.html
13 Glowing ALIEN Fish From The Deep Sea

10:04
From Fluorescent Viperfish and Bioluminescent Catsharks to Glowing Anglerfish and Genetically Modified Glofish. These are 13 Glowing Fish. SUBSCRIBE for the latest videos: https://goo.gl/7xzjzR 13 GloFish Let’s start off this video about fish that glow, with GloFish! They are a patented and trademarked brand of genetically engineered fluorescent fish. The first fluorescent zebrafish were created at the National University of Singapore in 1999, by scientists trying to make a fish that would detect pollution by glowing in toxic waters. They combined the zebrafish embryo with genes that encode fluorescent proteins from jellyfish and sea coral. Yorktown Technologies, a company from Austin, Texas, bought the worldwide marketing rights to the fluorescent fish and in 2003, introduced the GloFish in the United States. It is the first and only genetically engineered animal to be publicly available and can only be found in the US. 12 Stoplight Loosejaw At number 12, we have the first naturally glowing fish on our list, the Stoplight Loosejaw. A type of barbeled dragonfish, it lives in the mesopelagic areas of all oceans. The mesopelagic zone is between 200 and 1000 metres below the surface of the water. Sunrays usually stop well before the 1 kilometre mark so creatures living here need to adapt to the darkness. Like our loosejaw, who lurks below the waters looking for zooplankton, with its huge mouth wide open, while using bioluminescence to look for Copepods, its favourite food. It is called a Stoplight Loosejaw because it has two big photophores, one red and one green and they look like the colors on a traffic stoplight. Due to the way light travels and dissipates in deep water, the red photophore allows it to see prey without being detected. They are also called rat-trap fish because of the unusual open structure of their jaws. 8 Cookiecutter Shark Moving on to the Cookiecutter Shark, or the Cigar Shark, an oceanic fish that likes to swim at depth of over 3 kilometres below the water. The name "cookiecutter shark" refers to its feeding habit of gouging round plugs, as if cut out with a cookie cutter, out of larger animals. Marks made by cookiecutter sharks have been found on a wide variety of marine mammals and fishes, as well as on submarines, undersea cables, and even human bodies. But the Cookiecutter Shark also glows in the dark, one of the most glowing of all fish, it’s bioluminescence persists up to 3 hours after being out of water. The photophores are strategically places on its underside to disrupt the light coming from above, confusing predators and hiding it’s real silhouette. 7 Lanternfish This method of camouflaging yourself with light is also used by the the Lantern Fish. A species of small, deep water fish, it is one of the most widely distributed fish. It is estimated that 65% of the oceans biomass are Lanternfish, with 246 species discovered so far. Small fish, they are between 2 and 30 centimetres long, although most of them stay well under 15 centimetres. They are masters of disguise, using their bioluminescence and counterillumination to confuse predators and mask themselves on the bottoms of the oceans. Thy also have gas bladders that confuse other fish that use echolocation or sonars. 2 Viperfish Next we take a closer look at the Viperfish. They are between 30 and 60 centimetres long and live in tropical and temperate waters and swim at great depths, 1500 metres below sea level during the day and down to 4000 metres during the night. They have snake like bodies and long, needle like teeth, and they are really ugly. They are predatory fish and feed on almost anything they gets their teeth into. The Viperfish has 3 types of photophores on its body, used mainly to attract prey. They have microscopic spheres all over their dorsal side, large spheres with pigment, reflector and lens, and finally, large, bell shaped organs grouped together along the dorsal surface. Although it may look like the viperfish is covered in scales, it is in fact covered by a thick, transparent coating of an unknown substance. 1 Anglerfish And at number one, probably the most famous and bizzare glowing fish, the Anglerfish. There are many types of Anglerfish, all over the globe, living at a variety of depths. But what all Anglerfish species have in common are their huge mouths full of razor sharp teeth and the esca, a fleshy growth on their heads, that houses light producing bacteria, and acts like bait for their prey, luring them straight into the fishs mouth. Anglerfish are a delicacy. Some Anglerfish species are a source of food. In North America, Europe and East-Asia, Goosefish are widely used in cooking and is often compared to a lobster tail in taste and texture. In Asia, especially in Korea and Japan, the liver of the Monkfish is considered a delicacy.

China’s first deep-sea fish farm opens for salmon breeding

01:02
China's first deep-sea fish farming facility, Shenlan 1, was opened for salmon breeding in the Yellow Sea on Monday. The octagonal apparatus is China’s first self-developed and world's biggest fully-submerged net cage. It can cultivate 300,000 salmon during a growth circle, and is expected to meet the annual output of 1,500 tons. 10 MOST DANGEROUS OCEAN CREATURES IN THE WORLD

10:17
10 Most Dangerous Water Animals In The World ► Subscribe: https://goo.gl/vHN6qB For copyright matters please contact us at: [email protected] There are many different types of creatures that live in streams, lakes, seas and oceans. And while many of these creatures are harmless, there are many that are incredibly dangerous if you happen to have an encounter with them. These dangerous animals lurk beneath the surface of the water in a world vastly different than ours, and must be deadly to survive. Join us as we take a look at 10 of the most dangerous water creatures. 10. Australian Box Jellyfish – This creature is not one to be messed around with if you happen to swim into a swarm of them. And while they may seem harmless, the Australian box jellyfish is considered to be the most venomous marine animal in the world. They have tentacles that are covered with tiny darts called nematocysts, and they are loaded with poison. 9. Flower Urchin – Beautiful but deadly, these sea urchins are extremely venomous. They look like a bouquet of small flowers; to which they get their name from. They feed on invertebrates, sponges, and dead fish, and have well developed jaws for grinding up their prey. 8. The Saltwater Crocodile – Evolving around 200 million years in the Mesozoic epoch, crocodiles have far outlived the dinosaurs. The Salt water crocodile is the world’s largest reptile, and they have been known to grow up to 27 feet long and weigh 2,465 lbs. 7. Textile Cone Snail – Mother nature teaches us that anything in nature that is beautiful, is most likely deadly, and a warning to predators and humans to not touch or disturb them. This holds true for the Textile Cone Snail. 6. The Sea Snake – These highly venomous marine snakes are closely related and belong to the same family as the cobra. There are two independently evolved groups: the true sea snakes which are related to Australian terrestrial elapids, and the sea kraits which are related to Asian cobras. 5. The Lionfish – Lionfish are skilled hunters, using specialized bilateral swim bladder muscles to provide exquisite control of location in the water column, allowing the fish to alter its center of gravity to better attack prey. The lionfish then spreads its large pectoral fins and swallows its prey in a single motion. 4. The Stingray – Stingrays are a group of rays, which are cartilaginous fish related to sharks, and are one of the oceans deadliest creatures. Most stingrays have one or more barbed stingers on their tails, which are used exclusively for self-defense. 3. Blue-Ringed Octopus – This octopus has some of the most striking colors of any ocean creature. They get their name from the brightly blue colored rings on its body. 2. Needlefish – These strange looking creatures are very slender, and have a single dorsal fin, placed far back on the body. Needlefish are capable of making short jumps out of the water at up to 37 mph. Since Needlefish swim near the surface, they often leap over the decks of shallow boats rather than going around. 1. The Moray Eel - Most attacks stem from disruption of a moray's burrow to which they react strongly, but an increasing number of accidents also occur during hand feeding of morays by divers, an activity often used by dive companies to attract tourists.

These reef-dwelling hunters nab their prey in microseconds, then slowly eat them alive. SUBSCRIBE to Deep Look! http://goo.gl/8NwXqt DEEP LOOK is a ultra-HD (4K) short video series created by KQED San Francisco and presented by PBS Digital Studios. See the unseen at the very edge of our visible world. Explore big scientific mysteries by going incredibly small. New research shows that cone snails — ocean-dwelling mollusks known for their brightly colored shells — attack their prey faster than almost any member of the animal kingdom. There are hundreds of species of these normally slow-moving hunters found in oceans across the world. They take down fish, worms and other snails using a hollow, harpoon-like tooth that acts like a spear and a hypodermic needle. When they impale their prey, cone snails inject a chemical cocktail that subdues their meal and gives them time to dine at their leisure. Cone snails launch their harpoons so quickly that scientists were previously unable to capture the movement on camera, making it impossible to calculate just how speedy these snails are. Now, using super-high-speed video, researchers have filmed the full flight of the harpoon for the first time. From start to finish, the harpoon’s flight takes less than 200 micro-seconds. That’s one five-thousandth of a second. It launches with an acceleration equivalent to a bullet fired from a pistol. So how do these sedentary snails pull off such a high-octane feat? Hydrostatic pressure — the pressure from fluid — builds within the half of the snail’s proboscis closest to its body, locked behind a tight o-ring of muscle. When it comes time to strike, the muscle relaxes, and the venom-laced fluid punches into the harpoon’s bulbous base. This pressure launches the harpoon out into the snail’s unsuspecting prey. As fast as the harpoon launches, it comes to an even more abrupt stop. The base of the harpoon gets caught at the end of the proboscis so the snail can reel in its meal. The high-speed action doesn’t stop with the harpoon. Cone snail venom acts fast, subduing fish in as little as a few seconds. The venom is filled with unique molecules, broadly referred to as conotoxins. The composition of cone snail venom varies from species to species, and even between individuals of the same species, creating a library of potential new drugs that researchers are eager to mine. In combination, these chemicals work together to rapidly paralyze a cone snail’s prey. Individually, some molecules from cone snail venom can provide non-opioid pain relief, and could potentially treat Parkinson’s disease or cancer. --- Where do cone snails live? There are 500 species of cone snails living in the Indian and Pacific Oceans, the Caribbean and Red Seas, and the Florida coast. --- Can cone snails kill humans? Most of them do not. Only eight of those 500 species, including the geography cone, have been known to kill humans. --- Why are scientists interested in cone snails? Cone snail venom is derived from thousands of small molecules call peptides that the snail makes under its shell. These peptides produce different effects on cells, which scientists hope to manipulate in the treatment of various diseases. ---+ Read the entire article on KQED Science: https://wp.me/p6iq8L-84uC ---+ For more information: Here’s what WebMD says about treating a cone snail sting: https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/cone-snail-sting ---+ More Great Deep Look episodes: This Mushroom Starts Killing You Before You Even Realize It https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl9aCH2QaQY Take Two Leeches and Call Me in the Morning https://youtu.be/O-0SFWPLaII ---+ See some great videos and documentaries from the PBS Digital Studios!
