Ep 13 Using A Peice of Junk Dolly to Film Product Shots for Video

03:30
The key to filming a product is to get beautiful motion with pleasing lighting. In this episode we are demonstrating how to use cheap and affordable video tools to create nice lighting and motion for product shots. We will start by covering a short review of the Neewer tabletop dolly and why it may be better than a number of sliders on the market. We will then discuss a little about the 3 point lighting used for doing our product shots and the type of lighting being used. This includes 2 led panels and a diy light with 3 LIFX bulbs. We will then talk about how to choose lighting and backgrounds and where to position lights to get the best lighting for different types of products. Link to the Dolly: http://amzn.to/2pb75Sv Articulating arm (spec is 1kg load): http://amzn.to/2iTE8p4 Video was shot using a Panasonic G7 for the product shots and a Canon T5i with a sigma 18-35mm for all talking head shots. Audio was recorded with a Saramonic shotgun mic into a Tascam DR 60D mkII.

Photographing Knives and Cutlery product shots

10:14
Photographing cutlery and any shiny surface, can be very difficult, getting the balance between the metal parts and the others needs a special technique, here I show you how to solve the problem. By using reflected light , we can create shadows and highlights where we want on the blades. The key to good still life photography is taking the time to study the subject. Look at the way it reflects light, finding a suitable background is the best way towards a great photograph or image. Choosing the right lens is important as well, the shorter the lens the more difficult it is too control reflections, just stand close to a mirror look at what you see in the background, then compare the same thing from farther away, you have a lot less reflecting in it don't you.All this is important for product shots especially if they are shiny metal or silver.

Photography Tips: Product Photography At Home

10:45
Composition, light use of lenses are all important when setting up an image. But the most important thing is being able to think on your feet. In this video we're working with composition, working with available light and how to modify it, creative use of focal length, depth of field and ensuring the image is pin sharp by avoiding camera shake. Photographers always have to find ways to work around and with all of these things. Ways to make something which doesn't work - work. Natural light changes all the time so it might be perfect when you begin a shoot, and be inappropriate 30 minutes later. This is a real life photoshoot for my friend Jen Williams whose Naked Jam brand creates bespoke chutneys and preserves for exclusive clients. And she needed a promotional image - fast. Rotating display table for product shots - DSLR FILM NOOB

02:55
http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2013/02/05/rotating-display-table-product-shots/ If you do a lot of product reviews, adding motion to your product shots can really make your review stand out. A slider does a good job of handling this if you have a smooth hand, but it can set you back around $300 or more depending on the slider you select. This little Rotating display table comes is a $49 model that can handle up to 22 pounds and a smaller $24 model that's rated for 2.2 pounds. The unit demoed in this video is the $49 model. As you can see it does a great job of smoothly rotating your product around at a reasonable speed. There are not adjustments on this thing just 2 switches, one for the led and one for the rotating table. I've covered up the led in this video because it's not something I'll be using. One thing I would recommend is that you cut out a peace of black felt and place over the surface of the table. The plastic is somewhat reflective and a matte cover would make it less noticeable if you are trying to shoot against a black back ground. If you'd like to pick one of these up you can find links to the two different versions here: http://www.dslrfilmnoob.com/2013/02/05/rotating-display-table-product-shots/ Equipment used in this video: Canon t2i Canon 135mm f2 Canon 85mm f1.8 Canon 35mm f1.4 Sennhieser G2 wireless mic
