4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab

08:08
Grab Your Free 17-Point WordPress Pre-Launch PDF Checklist: http://vid.io/xqRL 4 Places To Edit WordPress CSS | WP Learning Lab To edit WordPress CSS you first need to know all the places you can find CSS. There are 4 common places. You may not have all these locations on your website because some of them are theme-dependent. The possible CSS locations are: 1. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet (this one you have for sure) 2. The theme options panel (this one you may or may not have) 3. A CSS editor on each page and post (this one you may or may not have) 4. Inline CSS applied directly to HTML elements on the page (this one you will have only if you're written it) Let's go through each one. The WordPress theme or child theme stylesheet When inside your WordPress dashboard if you click on Appearance then Editor you will be able to edit theme or child theme files. Usually the style.css is loaded first by default. If it's not loaded find the style.css file in the list of files on the right side of the editor page. When you find it, click on it. That will open the CSS file in WordPress editor. At this point you can make edits to the file and click on the Update button to save your changes. How to actually code CSS is beyond the scope of this tutorial, but you can check out my CSS channel over here (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCeFLITjl2v9vtIkftw9UMsw) The danger in editing CSS directly in the stylesheet of the main theme is that what you create may be over written when the theme updates. You get around this problem by creating a child theme (see a tutorial on how to create a WordPress child theme here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8n1h-85SMQ). The theme options panel Not every theme has a theme options panel, but the ones that do make WordPress CSS so much easier to edit. You can simply add CSS to the CSS box in the theme options and click save changes. The upside is that theme updates won't erase the CSS code you create. A CSS editor on each page and post Some themes, like Avada and Divi, give you the option of insert CSS code right into the individual posts and pages of your website. This is great for CSS that you want to be only one page. I would only recommend doing this if you're putting more than 100 lines of CSS into the page. If it's less than 100 lines of CSS you're better to put into the main stylesheet so you stay organized. If it's more than 100 lines of CSS code that only need to exist on one page then your site will load a little bit faster overall by not loading all that CSS into every page. Inline CSS The last place in our list and the last place you'd want to create CSS code is right in your HTML elements. This is called inline CSS and can be difficult to work with for two big reasons. First, you can't apply the CSS to more than one element at a time. So if you want to style all the paragraphs on the page in the same way you have to apply the same CSS code over and over again to each p tag. This is a pain to administer and will result in larger than needed page sizes. Second, if you add inline CSS to lots of pages it will be come difficult to remember what CSS you applied where. Then trying to find it an make edits will become a pain. Inline CSS also takes precedent over CSS in the stylesheet. So you might be make changes to CSS in the stylesheet, but nothing is happening on the page. You'll go through a frustrating few minutes before you figure out the CSS is actually inline on the page. I hope this information helps you! How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles

08:53
http://wordpresspowersites.org/how-to-edit-wordpress-theme-css-styles/ How To Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles As a web developer, I frequently wrangle with codes. one of such is building and customizing WordPress Themes. Am a big fan of WordPress Genesis framework, i do use it to build amazing WordPress themes. I also install and further customize their child themes to suite my style. If you really want to know, my blog is using the Genesis Focus Theme. I have seen quite a number of WordPress users making CSS changes inside the wordpress theme template core stylesheet. I do wonder, what if something goes wrong, how do you revert back to the initial design? Some will say, they do make backup of their theme before making any changes to the CSS. i see that as a pain in the ass. Reasons You Shouldn't Alter Your WordPress Theme CSS stylesheet Damage Of Theme -- Not everyone has the habit of always backing up files before editing. If for example, you made a change to your theme style sheet, and after previewing, you didn't like the output, you may have difficulty changing or reverting the changes. Mind you, CTRL-Z won't work 'cos the browser was loaded when you saved the changes, therefore, you can't undo the change. Keep Theme Design Even After Update -- If you make changes to your theme files, all your customization will be lost if you update the theme to the latest version. If you follow the best practice rule below, you may still have your site customization even after an update only if the update didn't change the CSS ids and classes of the theme. but the customization can be lost if it was a major theme update like from version 1.5 to maybe 2.0 It can speed up theme customization time. For those of us using WordPress theme framework like Genesis, Thesis, e.t.c that develop themes as child themes of their framework, it is advisable you don't make any changes to the CSS style sheet. rather Get either the CSS ID, class or both controlling the design of the theme and add either an Internal Style Sheet or External Style Sheet below the theme external stylesheet. NOTE -- adding the new stylesheet you want to overwrite the theme CSS must not be above the default WordPress CSS stylesheet else it won't have an effect. More on WordPress Theme CSS Practice ALTERNATIVELY There are plugins that can save you of the above stress. all you need do is, place the CSS you want to over-rule in the specified plugin textarea, save and preview the output. Some of this custom WordPress custom CSS plugins include: Jetpack Custom -- If you are new to WordPress or even if you are a Pro, i advice you install and use Jetpack my Automattic(founder of WordPress). one of the feature that come with it is the Custom CSS. i personally use it to make CSS changes to my theme. to use this jetpack feature, you have to install Jetpack plugin. PC Custom CSS -- This plugin provides an easy and effective way to use your own custom CSS code with any theme. it a top-notch plugin when it comes to adding custom CSS. saying from my experience using it. WP Live CSS Editor -- A CSS live Editor that allows you to edit, preview changes and save all your project's CSS stylesheets live in the browser. My Custom CSS -- With this plugin you can put custom css code without edit your theme and/or your plugins (really useful in case of any theme/plugin update). Live CSS Preview -- This plugin adds a textarea to the new Customize page that allows theme editors to write, preview & implement css code in real-time. Best Custom CSS -- This plugin help you to manage your css files with an easy and convenient method directly from WordPress dashboard. Custom CSS Manager -- Simple plugin to manage Custom CSS Code to change the appearance of your WordPress website. This Plugin stores the CSS Code in the WordPress Options Database. Your Custom CSS -- Add your own CSS to your WordPress Backend and Frontend. Missing style.css Sheet: WordPress Theme Upload

03:14
Ever get the "Missing style.css sheet" error when uploading a theme to a WordPress installment? Here's what you're doing wrong! If you are having issues uploading your WordPress theme and are receiving the "Missing style.css sheet" error, watch the video to learn how to solve that problem. Oftentimes the .zip file that is needed is actually within a larger .zip file and you are not uploading the correct one. Another common error is you have downloaded a theme that is actually not a WordPress theme, but an HTML theme. It gives you a "missing style.css sheet" error because there isn't in fact a WordPress ready .zip to upload. There are solutions to this by making the theme WordPress compatible but it will take you much more time than simply returning that theme from where it was purchased and finding one created specifically for WordPress use. Make sure to watch the video to solve your question and read the comment section as I've answered numerous questions on the matter too. Please give the video a thumbs up if it helped you! I see numerous thumbs down on the video and I would love nothing more than to help those people find the solution they need so please leave a comment if I didn't provide you the answer within the video!

The package could not be installed Theme is missing the style.css || WordPress Theme not upload

03:50
The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet. If you are facing these error SOLUTION is here. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Errors that I cover: ______________________________________________ A common issue that can occur with users new to installing WordPress themes is a “Broken theme and/or stylesheets missing” error message being displayed when trying to upload or activate the theme. This is because the theme download package on ThemeForest includes additional files to the theme such as the documentation, license etc. ___SOLUTION: To solve this simply unzip the theme package you downloaded from ThemeForest and upload the themename.zip file which is included (with the file being the name of the theme). NOTE: ______________________________________________ Simple Steps to install a WordPress Theme when you have the Theme as a Zip File 1) Backup your website (before any major change to your site)! 2)In WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance | Themes 3) Click on “Add New” 4) Click on “upload” [???: “Upload Theme”]. Find the file on your computer and select it. 5) Click on “Install Now”. Theme will install. See installation progress in lower left of screen. 6) Theme should install successfully. Congratulations! 7) Activate it if you’d like to make it the live theme. Or click on “Live Preview” if you’d like to see what it looks likes without taking it to live. 8) Make sure to check that it looks OK. Especially menus and widgets! How to Fix WordPress Broken Themes

Enqueue WordPress Child Theme Style Sheet

05:38
https://pluginforage.com How to Enqueue a WordPress Child Theme Style Sheet If you don't know how to make a WordPress child theme you need to see this video first: https://youtu.be/WQ4JiOXXYqY We will look learn how to Enqueue a WordPress child theme: - Look at the old @import method - Create a functions.php - Enqueue the parent and child style.css Code Snippet used in the video: http://skeeterz71.com/how-to-enqueue-wordpress-child-theme-style-sheet/ For an in-depth video on how to create a child theme for WordPress, view my video "How to Create a WordPress Child Theme" Just note that you should ignore the @import method shown in that video and use the enqueue method shown in this video. The final step is to enqueue the parent and child theme stylesheets. Note that the previous method was to import the parent theme stylesheet using @import: this is no longer best practice. The correct method of enqueuing the parent theme stylesheet is to add a wp_enqueue_scripts action and use wp_enqueue_style() in your child theme's functions.php. You will therefore need to create a functions.php in your child theme directory. http://SkeeterZ71.com Video Tutorials: Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, WordPress, DNN Programming Tutorials: C, C#, C++, CSS, HTML, Java, PHP, JavaScript, jQuery

How to Edit WordPress Theme CSS Styles

08:37
In this video, we're gonna take a look at how to edit your WordPress themes. Now I understand that there are literally hundreds and hundreds of different WordPress themes out there, and I also understand that no matter how good a WordPress theme is, you may always have the need to customize your theme; for example, perhaps to change the font size, to change the type of font, or even to change certain colors on your WordPress theme itself. So in this video, I'm going to show you how to edit the CSS of the default WordPress theme only. Using an FTP program like FileZilla, you need to enter your hostname, username, and password and connect to your web hosting account. And when that's done, you need to click on to the public_html folder, and click to wp-content, go inside the themes folder, and you need to go into the specific folder of the theme that you want to edit.
