ENGLISH SLANG – 15 trendy fashion words
Learn new vocabulary about beauty and fashion. Just like fashion trends, the words we use in English to talk about makeup, clothing, hair, and style, change quickly. The words that are used today are not the same as five years ago. There is a whole world of beauty vloggers and fashion hauls on YouTube. If you’re into fashion, you’ll want to look en point when wearing items from your most recent haul. If makeup is your thing, you’ll be wearing a red lip or using a palette to get a smoky eye. You’ll be sporting balayage or ombre hair (don’t worry -- I’ll teach you how to pronounce those new French-origin words too!). Watch and never forget the boyfriends of Instagram. Then take the quiz at https://www.engvid.com/english-slang-15-trendy-fashion-words/ TRANSCRIPT Hi, everyone. In this lesson we're going to look at trendy fashion words. These are words that I'm hearing used a lot now around our times, so let's have a look through the words and learn them one-by-one so we can sound really cool and fashionable. Let's start with: "en pointe". If something is en pointe, it means perfect, it looks so good. What you're wearing today, that dress, your dress is en pointe. It's so fashionable, it's so, so hot right now. Very similar meaning to something being "on-trend". If we think about the word "trendy", it means fashionable. But to say something is trendy isn't fashionable enough anymore, we have to change it and say: "on-trend". We could also change it and say: "bang-on-trend". If it's bang-on-trend, it's even more now, happening right this minute. Next, if we're talking about makeup... When I was younger we used to talk about wearing lipstick or wearing red lipstick, or a pink lipstick, but now instead of saying the word "lipstick", it's described as: "I'm wearing a red lip today." And the same thing, instead of saying: "eye shadow", "Oh, I bought this eye shadow. It's blue. Look at it on my eyes", you don't say that because it doesn't... Doesn't sound... Doesn't sound fashionable enough, it doesn't sound like you know about makeup. So, what people who know about makeup say is they say: "Oh, today I'm wearing a smokey eye." I'm not wearing a smokey eye, I haven't got anything on, but a smokey eye is when the eye shadow looks grey or dark, and it's most often worn at night when you're going out. You get your eye shadow these days in "palettes". And instead of wearing just one eye shadow, like, wearing a pink eye shadow, the eye shadow palette comes with about... Well, as many as you want I suppose, but from 4 to 12 eye shadows, and what they do is they put on the different eye shadows from the palette. So, they will talk about creating the smokey eye from palette number three, or whatever. Next is a makeup term that's been around for a few years. This makeup term came from when the Kardashians got famous because the kind of makeup Kim Kardashian would use was a kind of makeup that shades her face to give it a certain... To make it look like there's more shadow on the face and a more dramatic kind of foundation, which is done with different brushes. It's a kind of makeup technique called "contouring". Apparently it comes... Apparently it's a makeup technique that's been around for ages, but before, drag queens used to use it, men who... Men who were still men, but dressed up as women mostly for performance and being in shows and things like that. So it originally comes from there. And I did experiment with contouring. I once watched a few too many YouTube videos, and it all went terribly wrong, so moving on from contouring. Next we have "drugstore makeup". In England we don't have drugstores, we have pharmacies where you go and buy your medicine, and you can buy toiletries, but we don't have drugstores. We have chains of drugstores, for example, Boots or Superdrug, and you can go in there and buy makeup, but we never call those places drugstores. Yet, when people talk about makeup now, the younger generation, they will... They will talk about buying drugstore makeup, which means the kind of makeup that only... Only costs you a few pounds to buy, it's not the really, really expensive makeup, and you can... You can buy it easily, close... Close... Close where you live. So, drugstore makeup is the kind of makeup you can do that doesn't cost you so much money as the really expensive brands. So that's an American term, but it's being used a lot here now in England. The next... The next two terms are about hair. These are newer fashionable techniques for dying your hair, and the two words come from French. In the English pronunciation we'd say: "balayage".

3 popular slang words in British English
Learn the most popular slang used in England! I'll teach you the definitions of these words and how you can use them to sound posh, middle class, or childish! We'll be looking at: "sorted", a trendy word that is often used in advertising; "innit", a very common word that you can use in informal conversations; and "dab", which is most often used by children and usually includes a bit of a dance. You won't learn this slang vocabulary in grammar books, so watch this video, then do the quiz at https://www.engvid.com/3-popular-slang-words-in-british-english/ TRANSCRIPT Hey, everyone. In this lesson we're going to talk about three slang words that I hear around in London all the time. I'm sitting on a bus, someone uses this word; walking down the street in the supermarket, hear these words. These words are just, like, following me around or something because I'm hearing them way too often. So these must be the most well-used, most fashionable slang words at this time. Okay? Let's start with number one: "Sorted". "Sorted" is a word from the 1990s, and it seemed to die for a while and nobody was using it, but now everyone's like: "Sorted. Sorted." You use "sorted" when you have just finished or agreed to something, and now it's done, so you say: "Sorted". "Sorted" as in done or fixed. So someone could say to you: "Have you got...? Have you got the food ready for the dinner party this evening?" You go: "Sorted. Sorted." And people do that kind of enthusiastic movement, like... Or like little proud eye: "Sorted. Sorted." And I always think it looks a bit lame when people say: "Sorted", or I think they're trying to look cool when they say it. But it seems to be... It seems to be said a lot at the moment, it's used in a lot of advertisements. See it, watch it. Sorted. So it must be... Must be really hip and trendy now. When... In my... In my ears this is, like, someone who's trying to hold on really hard to the 1990s and they still think it's cool to say, in my mind. Maybe I missed out on why this is so cool. And I also think it's quite yuppie, kind of yuppie kind of... Yuppie kind of word, so you've got a bit of money. Maybe you're not that cool, but you'd like to think you are and you... Or maybe you've got enough money to buy cool things and go to cool places, but you're still not really that cool. You might be the kind of person who says: "Sorted. Sorted." Okay. Let's move on to the next word which is a classic, an absolute classic, but one that endures is: "Innit". "Do you get what I'm saying, mate? You're having a laugh, aren't ya? You better take that back to your shop. Innit"? "Innit" means "isn't it", but it gets put on the end of when you say something to show that you're finished speaking, but also to emphasize what you said before. It means: "Isn't it". I did a shouting example then, but I can say... If I want you... It's a question type, so I can say: "Oh, the weather's terrible today. Innit?", "The weather's really bad today. Isn't it?" You can put... You can put it at the end of any statement to either emphasize or make someone agree with you. So whereas "sorted" was the... Let's say more upper-class word, "innit" is the more working-class word. And if you wanted... If maybe if you are a bit posh and you didn't want everybody to know, you might use the word "innit" sometimes just so you can, like, look like you're cool with the kids. Next example, really hot right now is: "Dab!" Just dabbing. You say "dab" if you do something that you think is really cool and you were successful at it. So, let's say I thought it was really cool to flip this pen and catch it... I didn't ca-... I can't dab. Right? I'm going to try it again. I've got more pens. Right? As long as I catch... Dab, dab. Dab. I'm dabbing. Okay? So that's what "dab" is. It translates as awesome or really cool, like: "Oh, unbelievable". Like: "Everybody cheer. Dab! Dab!" That's "dab". Dab's really hot right now. "Dab" is said by 12-year-olds and under. They can be of any... Any class. So let's just put "kids" here. They are the three hottest slang words of today in London. Thanks for watching. See you again soon. Bye.

How to Speak Texan: Slang, Phrases, and Words
I made this video for some friends who think my Texan sayings were funny, so I thought I would upload to to youtube for a little Texan lesson. ;) I was born in Texas but don't quite have a Texan accent because I moved to Florida when I was 10. :) **UPDATE: I know in the comments it's a battle between "I say a lot of these" vs "I'VE NEVER HEARD OF THESE IN MY LIFE", but again, like I mentioned, a few my mom literally made up, and also, Texas is a BIG STATE, meaning every single person is different and their families say different stuff. Yes, It's kinda stereotypical sometimes, but those are honestly things my mother still says!! And lastly, I didn't mention "y'all" because every person knows that what southerners say. :) 1. Up and at em 2. Brr honkey 3. Big o' 4. Chili bowl 5. Wait just a cotton pickin' minute 6. Chunked 7. Fixin to 8. Hissy Fit 9. Dad gum it 10. Boy howdy 11. Fall and bust your head open Wendy/ Windy = same pronunciation Pen/ Pin= same pronunciation

MY PARENTS GUESS TEEN SLANG 😂 Millennial Slang Words Vs Gen Ex Parents!
Millennials VS Gen Ex! My Parents guess teen slang words and trivia that is popular on the internet and social media apps! My parents react to Millenial slang words and try to guess what they actually mean! ❤ OPEN ME! MEET MY PARENTS!! Coach and professor are excited to meet all of you and my parents are stoked to be on youtube for the first time! I got a list of middle school slang words, high school slang words, and millennial slang terms 2016 from Urban dictionary and had my parents guess what they mean! My mom and dad think they're pretty cool parents, but based on their answers (mostly my dad's) I think Generation Ex tends to be pretty out of touch with the internet slang of 2016! They also guessed some pop culture trivia about people like Kylie Jenner, Kim Kardashian, One Direction, Fifth Harmony, Kanye West and Justin Bieber. I want to make more videos with my parents like my parents react, my parents react to youtubers, my parents react to Jacob Sartorious, my parents react to musical.ly and my parents react to snapchat! ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●● MY EQUIPMENT// CANON 70D http://amzn.to/2l4KzGe CANON SL1 http://amzn.to/2lDifO6 SIGMA LENSE http://amzn.to/2m52CA3 TRIPOD http://amzn.to/2kIFN56 SHOULDER RIG http://amzn.to/2kIMHau MICROPHONE: http://amzn.to/2m5bfuK VOICE OVER MICROPHONE: http://amzn.to/2kIE6EQ AUDIO RECORDER: http://amzn.to/2m5inan LIGHTING KIT http://amzn.to/2lDumej VLOG TRIPOD: http://amzn.to/2kIEByq VLOG CAMERA: http://amzn.to/2l4O2ER MY FAVORITES// FAVORITE SPANX: http://amzn.to/2m57bdJ BACKGROUND SHELVES: http://amzn.to/2kIQW5M UBER CODE FOR $20 OFF: sierras2308ue ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●● FOLLOW ME// VLOG CHANNEL- www.youtube.com/sierrastephenirl TWITTER- www.twitter.com/schultzzie INSTAGRAM- www.instagram.com/schultzzie SNAPCHAT- crazycatlady ●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●●● Hi!! English Slang Dictionary - B - Slang Words Starting With B - English Slang Alphabet
http://www.englishanyone.com/power-learning/ Learn to express yourself confidently in fluent English and sound like a native speaker with our FREE Power Learning video course! Welcome to EnglishAnyone.com's English Slang Alphabet! Learn to understand and speak English like native speakers, and impress your friends with some REAL English words and phrases! Just remember that slang is CASUAL English! Use slang with your friends and people you know well! Don't use slang with your boss, with the police if you get arrested or when meeting your girlfriend or boyfriend's parents for the first time! Let's continue with the letter B! Badass A badass is someone who is ultra-cool. This term, usually used for strong, confident men, describes someone who does what he wants when he wants. That guy is such a badass! He wrestles rhinos and drinks motor oil! Bitch Though bitch means female dog, the many slang meanings of this word can be applied to both men and woman. We'll look at a few of them in turn now. When you call a woman a bitch, you're saying that she is being loud, rude, unreasonable and/or overly aggressive. Like "asshole," this is a very strong word, so don't use it on someone's grandmother. I know you're upset, but you don't have to be such a bitch about it! When a man is called a bitch, this usually means that he is being called weak or being made to feel bad because he is a subordinate, or a person of a lower rank. When a man is someone's bitch, this means that he is controlled by another person. I'm hungry! Be my bitch and make me some breakfast! As a verb, to bitch means to complain or whine too much about something you think is unfair. Stop bitching about your situation and do something about it! Ball (Bawl) To ball means to cry a lot. We say that someone is balling their eyes out when they are sad and crying very loudly. The little girl's dog ran away and she balled her eyes out for weeks. Bombshell We call a beautiful, sexy woman a bombshell to describe her as powerful and explosively hot. I met this beautiful bombshell at a party and wanted to marry her instantly! Beef Beef refers to complaints or bad feelings. To have a problem with something is to have a beef with it. I've had a beef with that guy ever since he tried to steal my girlfriend. Beer Goggles Goggles are the tight glasses you wear when swimming. Though they keep water out of your eyes, goggles usually get foggy and decrease your ability to see. Like goggles, alcohol also decreases your ability to think and see clearly. So, after someone has had a few drinks, can't see clearly and becomes more likely to want to sleep with, or have sex with, someone they wouldn't normally be attracted to, they're said to be wearing their beer goggles. Someone may look ugly to you when you're sober, or not drinking, but they'll look fantastic with your beer goggles on! Bollocks Bollocks is British slang for testicles and is said when something is considered nonsense or an outright lie. You're 25 years old? Bollocks! You look more like 60! Bug Out To bug out means to get away, or escape, very quickly. In an emergency, you bug out and get as far away as possible. We had to bug out and run home when the lightning storm ruined our picnic. Bite Like taking a physical bite out of someone, to bite someone's words or style is to steal their idea or copy them. This slang is usually used by song writers and rappers when referring to someone using their lyrics. Someone who bites is a biter. Don't bite my lyrics! Write your own! Now get out and practice these words in your conversations! Comment below and use them in practice sentences. Feel free to tell us how we're badass teachers! Have a great day and we'll see you next time with some more great slang words starting with the letter C! English Slang Dictionary - I - Slang Words Starting With I - English Slang Alphabet
http://www.englishanyone.com/power-learning/ Learn to express yourself confidently in fluent English and sound like a native speaker with our FREE Power Learning video course! Learn English slang! Let's continue with the letter I! Ice Ice is the slang word for fancy jewelry like diamonds. You'll most often hear this word used in rap music. With a very different meaning, to "ice" someone means to kill them. My lady has expensive taste and loves to be covered in ice from head to toe. Idiot Box Idiot box is another word for television, because many people think TV makes people mindless, stupid and unproductive. Stare at the idiot box for too long and your mind will turn to mush! ID ID is short for identification. An ID can be anything from a driver's license to a passport or a library card. You'll have to show your member's card and ID if you want to rent a car here. Itch Itch in the usual sense means irritated, uncomfortable skin, usually in the form of a bite from an insect, that you can't stop touching. Similarly, the slang definition of itch means an intense desire to do something. If you have an itch to play soccer, you really want to play soccer. To act on your desire, or relieve your itch, is to scratch your itch. I'd better scratch my itch to open my own seaside restaurant soon, before I go crazy! Item An item is a couple in a relationship. When two people fall in love or start dating, they become an item. People that follow celebrity relationships often talk about two celebrities becoming "quite the item." My friend and his girlfriend fell in love last year and have been a serious item ever since. Inhale To inhale something is to eat it incredibly fast as if you were inhaling air. People that inhale their food often look like vacuum cleaners sucking food off of plates. Don't inhale your food! Eat slowly and chew properly. In What's popular, trendy and fashionable during a particular time period is considered "in style" or just "in." Trendy music, food, fashion, events and anything else in popular culture can be called "in." Popular people can also be considered "in," and the popular group of people at a school or organization is known as the "in crowd." I'll never be cool enough to keep up with what's "in" today. In The bag Something that's in the bag is easily or assuredly achievable. To remember this phrase, think of something that's in the bag as if it's something you're already holding. If you know that you will win a game, then victory's in the bag. We're winning by 30 points with only one minute to go! Victory's in the bag! In The Know Someone who's in the know is someone who has information that others don't. If you receive information before others, or know secret, confidential information, you're considered to be in the know. My friend gets all the great deals when buying rental properties because he's in the know. In-Your-Face Something that's in-your-face is something loud, aggressive, obnoxious and/or confrontational. People can be in-your-face if they are literally standing close to you and being aggressive. Advertising can also be in-your-face if it's loud, distracting and annoying. I wanted to sit and read a book but this other guy at the library was all in my face and annoying me with questions. Iffy Something that's iffy is doubtful, suspect or questionable. Anything you're unsure of can be iffy. If the water you're about to drink looks green, even though you're told it's OK to drink, you'd be right to call the water "iffy." I'd like to go out and have a picnic today, but the weather looks a little iffy. Now get out and practice these words in your conversations! Challenge yourself to see how many of these cool words you can fit in one sentence in the comments section below. Have a hell of a day and we'll see you next time with some more great slang words starting with the letter J! 7 Dominican Slang Words and Phrases From the Streets of the Dominican Republic - With Audio
https://www.grittyspanish.com/2017/01/01/7-dominican-slang-words-and-phrases-to-know/ I created a blog post talking about 7 Dominican Slang words and phrases... I actually got one of the characters from the original version of Gritty Spanish (orig) to say all seven of the words in a real sentence as well, not just simply saying the word and on the next. This is something new I wanted to do, create blog posts with with slang/curse words, etc, give a nice explanation of the word/phrase and have a local say them in a short sentence, in their own accent, this way, you'll get the all important listening and reading experience as well. I believe it's something you and the rest of Gritty Spanish's subscribers will enjoy.
