This segment is about how to shuffle and cut the cards. Well there are many ways, and it's nice to have a few different ways at your disposal so that you can choose, sometimes just on your mood and sometimes on the requirements of a particular layout. We'll be having segments on different layouts that you can do as well in this series. But this moment is really about shuffling itself. If you are a little bit more adept at shuffling cards, you might like to do it in that very nice way that we do when we're playing cards. Like that. I like to do that four times when I shuffle them in that manner. For each letter for the name of God: yod, hey, vav, and hey. Of course that's in Hebrew. But there are simple ways. The main thing is when you shuffle, have an intention. I like to announce to the cards when I mix them. Exactly what layout I'm gonna do, who I am; we're gonna have a segment on how to choose an significator as well meaning the card that represents yourself, and how you're going to shuffle. One of the most easy ways, I call going fishing. I put the cards on the table and I strat to move them around. You don't have to be fancy but notice I move them, I'm giving them a chance to find different borders. I'm giving them an opportunity to be up-right or reversed and then when I've moved them to my hearts content; and remember this is a short video so I'm not going to move them around very much, you can take as long or as short as you like. Choosing when you're going fishing is a non rational process, so you have to trust that whatever card you're attracted to that's the card for you. In fact I often tell my students, "you can not do it wrong." Say I was going to pick a card for myself for Whats My Lesson for Today. I would have moved them around if I'm just going fishing and then I find myself attracted to one. And lucky me it's the ten of pentacles. Why, it's the ultimate in the lord of wealth and the lord of well being. I know today is going to go very well for me, it's a rich day. We have another segment on how to use reverse cards. You could pull maybe 10, 20 cards this way if you're doing a longer more involved layout. It's perfectly fine. Sometimes I use the round and round method which I like to think of all the ingredients of life being stirred in a big cauldron, and I stir my question into the cards which I have announced to the cards silently from my heart. I stir it in as though it were and ingredient in the stew of life and I want it to be well mixed so that I combine methods. Certainly one can do go fishing just any old time, but sometimes that's just step one for me. Then after I've moved them round and round, I bring them together and I don't worry to much. I put them together in a pile. Notice how I get the bottom ones nice and solid on the table and the ones tthat have stayed upright I turn to the side and bring them together. Now I'm ready to do any number of other kinds of cuts. One is I take them and I spread them like a rainbow ark on the table, and in that way I then let my hand or encourage the person who I'm reading for, to move their hand back and forth across the cards. Sometimes I'll feel more heat, sometimes I'll feel a little vibration, sometimes it's not that at all. Remember choosing is non rational. I'll just be attracted to a card, one will peek out at me and for some reason I want it. And I will choose. Say I'm doing a three card reading. I pull one. I go back and I feel for the next I pull two, and I go back; say I'm doing a little three card reading, and I pull the third. Turning them over is important. I like to always turn them over from them side, bcause I like them to be in the very same way that the Terro has presented them. Here is a little message for me. In the center we see the card of great contentment, but it's reversed. Maybe I'm too worried and not content about my work today. I may have started out, here's that maybe the past and the future all unsure. Maybe avoiding some things, but I'm gonna wind up strong and powerful, and working with the subconscious in a very good way. Respect reversed and upright and pleased check out our segment on the meanings of reversed cards. Here's another way of cutting. There are so many

Suit of Swords | Tarot Cards

And I welcome you to this taro moment from the School of Oracles. This segment is to introduce the suit of swords. Swords are also a masculine suit. The suits alternate in their identity as masculine, feminine, masculine and feminine. The taro is so egalitarian and completely equally in it's masculine and feminine representations. These are not the natural ones that we associate in society as the outer masculine and feminine but the inner qualities that each one of us has. Swords are the mental suit. They deal with changes, mental processes and extremely importantly, your thoughts or beliefs about yourself, which we might say, your identity. Sometimes people think that the suit of swords is the painful suit and indeed many of them that we will find as we do our segments on the minor arcana small cards, the ace through 10's. You'll see that the swords will deal with very often difficult situations, mostly I think it's because we often have a lot of resistance to change and a lot of resistance to truth. As we see in the ace of swords, it's the sword of truth that is being shown in the very first lead card of the suit. When you find a lot of swords in your reading or a lot of air cards, perhaps there are changes going to be taking place. It's the suit of processes, so maybe there is a lot going on moving within you or in your life. And perhaps you are working on your identity, who you think you are which actually determines so much of our experience in this world, I'd say 90%. The swords have a direction and that direction is east and their season if you're going to use them for divination in that way, their season is the fall. Swords also double. It's the only suit that doubles. We know that wands are fire, cups are water, swords are the element air, but they're also the element of spirit because air is the element that is closest to spirit. In all of the old magical languages, Latin, Hebrew, Sanskrit, Greek, the word for breath and the word for spirit is identical. "Spiritus" in Latin means both breath and spirit. In Hebrew it's "ruach elohim." In Greek, pardon my pronunciation, but I think it's "pneuma." We call things when they are godlike, pneumonous. And if you have a really bad respiratory infection, you might have pneumonia. Therefor the swords will also talk about spiritual process. It's very exciting to have a good number of swords in your reading because life is built on change and the words will always show you what your work is and what your mental process is. Work with your mind, work with your thoughts, and you change your world.

This segment is on how to make invocation when we're about to read the cards. Invocation is a calling forth a spirit. Calling forth of the energy or the intelligence that is behind the cards. This intelligence is the divine intelligence, for there is only one being in this universe. One of my favorite names for it is the being with a thousand names. Sometimes, people say, and I know this is true as well, that the tarot is really pulling things from your own sub-conscious and that it's reflection of your own soul. This is true and in that case you might call the intelligence your own higher self or your own inner self. An invocation sets up the connection between you and spirit. It can be simple or it can be complex. It can be spontaneous, or it can be a traditional prayer or invocation. The tarot doesn't mind. What is most important is that you are completely present, you've turned off the telephone and all devices that might ring or interrupt you. And, you ask the cards with sincerity. Tarot recognizes sincerity. So, that if your invocation were simply...small and simple as "oh great spirit of the tarot help me". Why, that's enough. I'm going to give you one that I use frequently. In the invocation, I like to mention my significator (?), and we will have a segment on how to choose a significator. Mine happens to be the queen of wands. We usually use a court card in the school that I use. And, I would say, "dear tarot, this is Ellen, Queen of Wands" and then I would launch into, "mother, father, god, just now we ask to be placed in the light of the holy spirit. I ask for the presence of the divine intelligence that animates these cards. And, I ask in behalf of myself, Ellen, Queen of Wands. Please show me what I need to know about myself right now so that I can take my next step in growth and evolution. And, I ask this with humbleness and gratefulness." If you were more advanced in Kabbalistic, you might end it with the Kabbalistic cross, which is the words that we know so well. "For thine is the spirit and the glory forever and ever," in Hewbrew. Atoh Malkut Mal-Koot Ve-Gevurah Gedulah Olam Amen. Whether you use one from your own repertoire. Whether you make it up spontaneously. And, I will stress they love spontaneous simple heartfelt calling forth. This is an indispensable part of your reading because the sincerity with which you call forth the tarot is the same sincerity with which the tarot will meet you.

How to Read the Twos | Tarot Cards

In this segment we're going to take a brief overview of the Twos of all the four suits of the Minor Arcana. The Twos belong, or are associated with, Sephira Chokmah, the second Sephira Chokmah on the Tree of Life. Because the Aces are such pure essences they have to not actually manifest in events in life, they're more overviews of giant principles. The Twos are the first time that each of the suits are going to show themselves in a life situation. The name of the number Two is duplication and it comes from the old root meaning to fold so that something exactly replicates each other. The Twos are the first time that the suit is reflected back to the Godhead and so all the Twos are a card of harmony and all the Twos are the element in their purest form and highest form. The Two of Wands is called the Lord of Dominion. It has an astrological attribution as every one of the small cards does, except the Aces which are the elements themselves. The Two of Wands is Mars in Aries. What a way to start the Minor Arcana! A fiery suit of Wands with a fiery planet in the fiery sign of the Zodiac and its name is the Lord of Dominion. You see here a man at the top of the world standing on the roof of his castle with the world in his hands surveying a vast amount of land that he oversees. When we see what the Wands would like to show us in their highest form is that they would like us to have a sense of self, pride and authority. This is what the Wands want to give us just like this card. On a higher polarity it is happy dominion, peace between ruler and ruled, a sense of self-respect and self control and treating each creature that you come upon as something special onto itself. On the lower polarity it's not happy polarity, it's ruthlessness, it's poor management, no self-control. Therefore, see that this man has achieved this through spiritual means. Notice the standard on his castle parapet. It's roses and lilies and a cross. This is no ordinary man, this is a Knight of the Rose Cross. The Two of Cups is called the Lord of Love, the highest form of the element of water, is to love and be receptive. Astrologically, it is the planet Venus in the sign of Cancer. Cancer is the most receptive of all the signs in the Zodiac and Venus is, of course, love incarnate. Here we see two people equally sharing back and forth with each other. This can be a love between two people of the same sex or the opposite sex, or it can be a love just inside yourself between your own inner masculine and feminine, because everybody has the other half of their soul inside. Every man has an anima, the female part of his soul. Every woman has an animus, the male part of her soul. And that intermarriage is the marriage, the alchemical marriage, and that's what's taking place here. You see the Lion who is the symbol of the raising of the Red Lion. You see that this is an alchemical card, even more than Outer Love. On the higher polarity, this card is love, cooperation, marriage, friendship, real sharing. On the lower polarity it's disunion or perhaps using a relationship simply to avoid loneliness but not because of the real value of the relationship to yourself. There's advice with this card on the lower polarity; get into relationship with yourself. The Two of Swords, the Lord of Peace restored, this card shows us a woman who reminds us of Agile of the Justice card. She is poised and seeing with a blindfold that she has on. It doesn't mean that she is blind, it means that she is looking with interior vision. The tides are low, the rocks show. You can navigate very well here because you're not going to be tripped up by the unseen because she's looking inward. Its astrological attribution is the Moon in Libra. The yearning for harmony, for quietness, for peace. In [inaudible 00:05:26], the Swords are a mental suit, therefore this is a sign of inner peace, the truce that is taking place and it is very good upper polarity meaning. It's mostly the truce within yourself. When you get this card in a reading think inner peace, truth, looking for that truth within and being able to be stilled and go about your activities in a poised way. In the lower polarity there's vacillation, confusion, looking for your truth i

I'm Ellen Goldberg and welcome to a Tarot Moment from the School of Oracles. In this segment we are going to introduce the tarot. What are tarot cards? Well, you might think they are simply a deck of cards, but they are much more than that. The tarot is actually...a book of wisdom that's disguised as a pack of cards. There are 78 cards in all they are divided into 2 groups, the major arcanna, arcanna means secrets, and the minor arcanna. These major and minor secrets will be covered in many of the segments that we are doing in this series. The tarot, the origins are really shrouded in mysteries. There are many theories about where they come from. What we do know is that they are an oracle and that they can tell you so many things about yourself, about life, about the deep meaning of things, and reflect yourself back to yourself. Well, the tarot is like having a sage as a wise friend, right in your own pocket...It's to be respected and not used simply for fortune telling because it doesn't really enjoy that aspect of itself. It will communicate, I think, on almost any subject, but it prefers to be used for questions dealing with your own personal process, your spiritual advancement. When I teach my students to use the tarot, the first question we learn, which can be used over and over on a daily basis is "Tell me, what should I know about myself, right now?" The tarot loves to reflect yourself back to yourself so that you can know yourself and you can always know how to comeback to your center, how to find your best self, how to take your next step in growth. Many scholars say that the tarot first appeared around the time of the Renaissance in Italy, and surly the first decks that we have come from around that time. Maybe things like the invention of the printing press, then the availability that made of paper products to the masses, certainly had an influence on the tarot. As well as the Renaissance proclivity for creating systems that synthesized all existing knowledge that existed, they did this quite a bit. So the tarot is an example of that. In fact, the tarot is a compendium of the entire western mystery tradition. The tarot is like a great river into which the streams of cabala, astrology, hermetic philosophy, alchemy...even neo-plutonic philosophy, all of these have flowed into the tarot and are part and parcel of it. One of the reasons that I ejnoy reading with the rider wait deck, which is the deck that we will be talking about and using as our source of images in this series, is because it was created by a hermetic magical order, The Order of the Golden Dawn in England. The order formed in the late, 1800s and lasted, I think, up until about 1920. Maybe it was 1888 that was the founding, but I can't be exactly sure, but what I do know is that they based everything on cabala and tarot. And they had great systems that they help to make the tarot grow. The tarot...it may only have appeared first in Renaissance Italy, but it's roots go back far and wide, goes back to the east and the west. There's eastern tradition from India and Tantra. There is the western Judeo-Christian Egyptian and Greek tradition in here and they all flow into this simple, seemingly simple pack of cards which is really profound. The 4 armed g- mother of time and great goddess of India, kali, from whom we get our word calendar, in her 4 arms she held 4 symbols which are representative of the 4 suits in the tarot, the wands, the cups, the swords, and the pentacles. Later on, in Greece the goddess Nemesis, the goddess of fate, before whom even the other gods bow down, she, too, carried these same symbols in her hands. And, of course, they were sacred to Mercury, who gives his name as Hermes, the Greek name for Mercury, to the entire hermetic tradition. Tarot is part and parcel of the hermetic tradition and it's still growing, still alive. The tarot an example that magic is alive and well. The other oracles that we know and love, say the etching. The rune stones, they date from about 1200 to 1500 years before Christ. Palmistry, my other great love in my life, and astrology they go back much further, and they might go back to 3000 to 5000 years before Christ. So you can imagine what a Johnny-come-lately tarot is, coming right around the time of the R

This segment is on how to pose a question to the Tarot. Forming the question that you are going to ask the cards is of utmost importance. In fact, if you form your question well, you may be halfway to the answer right there, because knowing what you're concerned with often brings so many ideas to you. If you are the reader for another person, whom we call the 'querent', it is your job as the reader to help the querent form the question. You ask them their concerns, and then you form the question with them. You always keep the question in mind as you are mixing, almost like a mantra, because you are mixing it into the cards, and the clearer you can be with the cards, the clearer the cards can be with you. I don't really think that the cards like fortune telling questions all that much. They're not gonna give you lottery numbers. They're not necessarily gonna tell you 'will you get the job', 'does he love me?' But if you pose the question in terms of 'what lesson am I learning?', you'll get just about the same advice as you would if you posed it in a fortune- telling sort of way. 'What is the experience I might have on this job interview?' 'Tell me what I need to know about myself in relationship to the man I'm in love with?' 'What do I need to know about myself in order to open my heart to love?' Or 'what do I need to know about myself to do my very best on the job interview I'm having today?' I think you get the idea. The cards love to answer questions that deal with spiritual or psychological processes, lessons that you're learning, and- then, they're a hundred percent when they answer you. Sometimes if you ask too many fortune-telling type questions, the cards might even become capricious, and- just like the I Ching, which actually has a hexagram when you've asked and thrown those coins too many times that says 'youthful folly' and is the equivalent of 'go away kid, you bother me,'  the cards will give you capricious answers just to say, 'don't bother me with this'. Consider that the intelligence behind the Tarot is a wise spiritual friend, and you don't want to go to them with just any old thing. But, you could go to them on a daily basis with 'what am I meant to learn today?' 'What do I need to know about myself today?' They would love that. As long as you are clear, the Tarot will answer you. It's very responsive, and very user- friendly.

This segment is about reverse cards: How to read them, what do they mean, and should one use them. When you do a reading and we have a segment on how to shuffle and cut cards, you will come out in your layout sometimes, oh! you may be very lucky and you have no worries because all the cards will be upright, but usually its a mixture. There are some people who don't believe in reading reverse cards, and they turn every card upright the minute it appears on the table. Personally, I think thats reading with only half the deck because reverse cards give us very important information. They show us where our 'work on ourself' is. Reverse cards show when energy is blocked or when a card may be coming from its lower self rather than its higher self. Considering that every card in the deck is a separate archetype showing some great force of the universe, or universal situation, or personality type, they are going to have what we call both an upper and a lower polarity. All archetypes they call young have upper and lower polarities, its a continuum just like us. Don't we have a higher self and a lower self and we sort of swing between them many times. When a card is reversed it shows us where the energy is blocked. It shows us that the person may be coming more from fear, rather than faith. Cards that are upright, they move towards evolution, even if its a very difficult card, even if it was one of the cards that people dread, although they shouldn't getting... lets say, oh, the five of pentacles, which is the lord of material trouble. If its upright, it actually has a higher polarity and we'll be coving the five in another segment. Please look for them. What I mean to say is this: You can instantly tell, even if something is difficult, that the cards value my opinion uprightness very much because it means you're working with it. You're clear. You're moving towards evolution and there's faith. The great polarity of this world is not necessarily love versus hate, but fear versus faith or trust. And it is from fear and faith that love and hate develop. These cards, sometimes when they're reversed, just by seeing that blocked energy, or the fear, or the devolution as opposed to the evolution of the upright card just by seeing it. *pop* In an instant your mind says "I'm turning that around, I'm willing to look at it." And so, it isn't that its going to take a long time because consciousness is everything. You know theres an old maxim that says, "You're allowed to change your mind the minute it becomes clear." And thats what these cards do for us. They show us how to get clear. When a card is upright, take advantage of it and feel proud that you're looking at something and moving towards your evolution. What if you did a simple four card reading and every card was reversed? You know you've got some big work to do. What if you have a four card reading and every card is upright? If you are so fortunate and you have a card layout where every card is upright that is a big yes, you're evolving, you are clear and you are facing life and wanting to look at everything in the most clear evolutionary fashion. Please make use of reversed cards. They add richness to any layout.

Tarot & the Kabbalistic Tree of Life | Tarot Cards

In this segment we're going to take the fastest journey through the Tree of Life, probably ever. We're going to look at the Tree of Life, not in a traditional cabalistic, but in how it is used in the western hermetic tradition, and especially how it impacts the meaning of all of the pick cards - the aces through tens in the minor arcana. For it is the tree that gives rhyme and reason to the meaning of these cards.  Each card in the minors is going to have one safira, that it is associated with. All of the aces belong to the top of the tree, catcher the crown; all the twos belong to hochma, which means wisdom; threes belong to bena, the mother which is understanding; all of the fours belong to Hased, the seer of mercy; all of the fives belong to Givurdas of Verity; All the sixes take their meaning from Teferet - beauty, there in the very center of the tree; the sevens belong to Netsach, Victory; the eights belong to Huud, Splendor; the nines belong to Yessad, Foundation; and all the tens belong to Malkut which is the Kingdom - our kingdom. Techter is unmanifest. It is pure spirit. It is the divine before it has any division in it at all. And so, it's both masculine, it's feminiine, it's before even masculine and feminine. It's just pure essence of life. In fact the Cabal is called the beginning of the whirlings. You'll notice that when we talk about the Aces they are always called the Root of the Powers of the Element. Root of the Power of Water and so forth. One of my favorite sayings about the tree is that, "The Tree of Life is a tree that grows upside down and it's roots are in heaven," and those are the roots that are referred to in the aces. Hochma, the first reflection back to Keter. The second sphere on the tree of life, Wisdom, is showing, is going to show us the elements in their purest fom because it is the first manifestation. Keter, Hochma, and Bina, that top triangle on the tree is called the sephernal triangle. It's the divine. Of course, the whole tree takes place and manifests in a lightning flash, but we have to look at them sequentially, so we see that Keter manifests Hochma, the Great Fater, then in manifest in Bina, the Great Mother. And notice how on the tree the divine is equally divided between God the Father and God the Mother. The inner roots of these mystic paths are not as patriarchal as the outer forms. All the threes, because they have a feminineness that is connected to Bina, because Bina is ruled by the planet Saturn. The first sefira to be actually connected to a planet, Keter, is called the Beginning of the Whirlings. Hochma, represents the entire Zodiac. But here we have with the Great Mother, Saturn. Her sphere is dark, like the darkness inside the womb. And Bina is also called The Great Dark Sea, she is the great sea out of which multiplicity will become. All the threes are a fulfillment and about to give birth to something. Then the energy crosses over what is called the abyss, because you see there is a great space between Bina and the next safira that it goes across the tree to that next sphere, that fourth one, that blue sphere, Hased, mercy.  Mercy is Hochma on a lower arc, it's ruled by Jupiter. A demi-urge. It is the rulership of the world with kindness. its the fourth and all the fours have a certain stability that can never be upset and we will see in all those fours very stable aspects of their suit. The energy travels across the Givurda, severity and all the fives are going to be testing cards - difficult cards, because Givurda judges and assesses. All those polarities on the two outer pillars on the tree of life work in pairs. We can see right away Hochma and Bina, the father and the mother, here in Hased and Givura - i always think of them as good cop and bad cop. Hased is gratuitous kindness - the world was created with just giving regarless of the merit of the receiver. But not so Givura, the tester. And every card thats a five will bring you to your limits. After the fives, we return to the central pillar on the tree of life, the middle path. And it is the center Safira, Teferet - the sun, and ruled by the sun, indeed. I guess you could see that Gavura was ruled by Mars given how red it is. Teferet, an

In this segment, we're going to look at the sun card and what a beautiful card it is. This is the fifth stage of spiritual unfoldment and it is the fool as the wisdom child; naked, devesting itself of all worldly things, on it's way back to spirit. This card is the sunny world of direct experience and the last card, the moon, and we were asleep and here comes an awakening. This stage, awakening, is a very wonderful time. Is a very wonderful time. It's a time when you become, or starting to become, an addict. In alchemy, the great work is often referred to as the path of the sun. The Hebrew letter associated with the sun card is resh, which means face, or continence, and you can see that continence in the image of the sun itself, similar to the way they draw the sun in all the old alchemy books. It's to intermede that all of these things, the sun, the moon, are alive beings, not just objects in the sky, but filled with intelligence and life.  The horse that the child rides [inaudible] represents solar energy and that red flag is the vibration of the Mars voice. The alchemical marriage of the sun and moon has taken place as shown by the alternating rays emanating from the sun. The masculine and feminine, radiation and vibration. The sun flowers are also sacred to the sun. The face on the sun shows that it is an alive being, the sun is a symbol of the divine and in the ancient world the word helios in Greek meant both sun and god. When you receive this card, know that a tremendous regeneration is taking place. There is a liveness, healing, and much healing can take place for you. There is something child-like that we would love to have within us in the best way.  On the lower polarity, this card is a [inaudible] card. On the higher polarity, sometimes it announces the birth of a child because it's fruitful and there is, of course, a child on the card. On the lower polarity, it's sterility, can even be death, if it is found in conjunction with the death card, and other cards of a similar nature being reversed. But, mostly it would have to do with egocentricity. Instead of being child-like, it would be an infantile willfulness and closed to the brightness and beauty of life. On behalf of myself and the School of Oracles, I thank you for being with me. Bye for now.

Learn The 78 Tarot Cards in Two Hours (pt 1/2)

01:24:50
This video is the first part of my 2 hour video marathon, teaching the meanings of the 78 cards in the standard Tarot deck. When I decided to explore the Tarot, I got a little frustrated at first. There was a LOT of information that I had to learn. 78 cards!!! I searched all over Youtube, but couldn't find a good video that just lays out all the cards one by one. I didn't care how long the video was. I just wanted to absorb the meanings of the cards and wished that someone had taken the time to lay it all out there and help get me started. Since I couldn't find the video I wanted, I resorted to reading a TON of websites and books. This took a lot of time. Countless hours. Then it occurred to me: If I can't find the video I want, Why not make it... so that others like me will be able to find it later? So I pulled out my microphone, used the camera on my cell phone, and applied some editing with Vegas Movie Studio, just to see what I could come up with. It was fun!!! And this is it. Enjoy.

This segment is a variation on one segment we've already done. Check out the segment on the three card reading. There we use it on the one we've done previously on how to use it for the most important question to the tarot - tell me what you think I ought to know about myself right now. But now we're going to do the same reading but use it in a manner of how to use those three cards as a yes or no reading. You would never apply any of this to the identity reading, tell me what I need to know about myself right now because there if a card is reversed it's quite different than here, this is very specific. We're still gonna follow the pattern of the lover's card where the card in the center is going to represent the essence of the question itself. If it's upright when we flip it over from the side, the answer is yes. If it's reversed when we flip it over from the side, the answer is no. The two cards on either side, which are like the man and the woman, show something about what you may know consciously and something about the unconscious. And since the unconscious plant seeds, it may show a little bit about future trend or where things may be heading. But really they're basically there to give more information about the center card. I've had a young woman I know ask a question. We've shuffled, we move them round and round, she shuffled four times, and after shuffling her question into the cards, I had her cut them. And then we dealt off the top of the bottom of the cut. Card number one is the center card, just like the Angel, with following the Tree of Life, Uno, ah, Keter, Chockmah and Binah, one, two three, this is center is always the first card, second third card. The question is she wants to talk to someone who's an employer of hers and she's accompanying them on a travel very soon. She wants to know, can she bring up an important question to them while they are all in Miami together. Let's find out. Might as well go for it. Turn the center card over first. Well, she shouldn't. Change may be coming if she's yearning for it, and in the future she's going to have fulfillment. Look it, the center card is no, it's reversed, but the cards on either side are both friendly in element, earth and water, are the two feminine elements and are always very friendly. Remember, the only time cards bring out extra chafing is when its near one of the only element that doesn't apply well with it. For fire, it's water. For water, it's fire. For air, it's earth, and vice versa. Here we have completely friendly elements. Look how beautiful these outer cards are, the Page of Pentacles indicating an entire new journey and new cycle of life and work, and home perhaps, but I think work. In the subconscious is the Lord of Pleasure, the Six of Cups, one of the most beautiful cards in the deck of true sharing, true beauty, true beauty of life and enjoying the process. So no, she should not talk to this important man right now. Instead, she should just wait. Beauty is coming to her, and she's going to be entering a new cycle. But this is not the time. That's how you use a three card cluster in a particular way.

How to Read Tarot Cards

02:11
Watch more Chakras, Energy, & Psychic Powers videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/317540-How-to-Read-Tarot-Cards Learning how to read these ancient cards may help you divine the future – or at least amuse party guests. Step 1: Get a deck Get a deck of tarot cards. There are many different kinds, but the popular Rider-Waite tarot deck is the one recommended for beginners. Step 2: Learn each card's meaning Read the booklet that comes with a new deck to learn the standard meaning of each card. Tarot cards are divided into major arcana or "greater secrets" and minor arcana, meaning lesser secrets. Major arcana represent forces outside our control, while minor arcana represent that which we have the power to change. Tip Major arcana cards are usually marked with Roman numerals; minor arcana cards are divided into four suits: wands, cups, swords, and pentacles. Step 3: Shuffle the cards well Shuffle the cards well; then cut the deck as the person whose fortune you are about to read asks the first question. Step 4: Lay down four cards Lay down four cards in a diamond pattern. The top card represents romance; moving clockwise, the next card relates to finances, followed by the card for health and happiness and finally the career card. Different spreads involving more cards can be used as you become more experienced. Step 5: Turn over the first card Turn over the cards and note the direction of the picture. If it's facing the reader, it's a positive card, representing good things. If the design is upside down or reversed, it's a negative card, representing conflict. Step 6: Get the whole picture Interpret the cards. Don't just analyze what the cards mean individually, but what message they convey when viewed as a whole. Tip Major arcana cards carry more weight than minor arcana, which are meant to clarify the bigger picture. Step 7: Practice Keep a record of your readings. It helps you refine your craft by keeping tabs on when you were right and when you might have misinterpreted the cards. Did You Know? Tarot cards originated in 15th-century Italy, where they were used as playing cards.

In this segment, we're going to take a look at The Emperor. The Emperor is the divine consort of The Empress. One might say that they are the Magician and the High Priestess once they have become a wedded pair. Look how similar the names are, Emperor and Empress. The word emperor means "he who sets an order" and where the empress represents imagination, he represents reason and seeing things as they really are and having a really firm grip on the world as it is. He is ruled by Aries, look at the redness in this card, look at the rams on his throne. He is power, but he's not in uniform, he's not wearing, uh, steel armor, and he doesn't have his court with him. He's out there in nature by himself because he rules by inner power. Of course, as Seneca tells us, "to rule is really to serve", and this is who he is. In his highest form, he is divine reason, the Logos. He is the great father, whereas the Empress is the great mother. The Hebrew letter that is associated with this card is "hey" and hey means "window". Look how is he combined with the Empress, she's the door, he's the window. And a window is something that puts a real boundary on what we see, it constitutes things for us, our vision is focused through it and yet, it lets in light and air. It also shows that you have outlook, a way to view the world and in its way, "hey" intonates that divine reason and order is the basis of the universe. When you get the Emperor in the high polarity, why, you know that you are seeing things as they really are. That you are taking care of things, that you are using power in a good way. Lao Tzu, in the Dao teaching, advises us that when a leader has done his work and the people have followed him, when the work is complete, they think that they have done it all themselves. The Emperor in his finest form is not power mad, but truly helps the people. When he's in his lower form, then certainly he is not seeing things as they really are, he is deceived by appearances, and then all of the negative, masculine, archetypal associations, they're right there: machismo, making war, anger, being irrational. When you get the Emperor in a reading, ask yourself "What kind of inner emperor is ruling my world? Is it calm? Is it stable? Am I seeing things in accord with reality?" You know, that's another definition of sanity. This card is a very excellent card to meditate on when you want to put your own house in order. Of course, without the Empress, he is sterile and barren, and she without the Emperor is just a wild mother nature run amok and overgrown. They are always best, operating in an alternating current. Through the School of Oracles, this is Ellen Goldberg. Bye for now.

This segment is an introduction to the Major Arcana. The Tarot, the 78 cards of the Tarot, are divided in two groups -- the Major Arcana, meaning the major secrets and the Minor Arcana, the lesser secrets. The Major Arcana are comprised of 22 cards often referred to as the trump cards and they go in a series from 0 through 21. They're easy to recognize because these are the cards that have a title along the bottom. They start with The Fool with zero. Well, you will find some people who put the fool in other places, and I cannot say they're wrong because the zero is everywhere. Really the zero is in and out of every card, so it's the beginning and the end. But we will take them in this series, from The Fool right through to the last card, The World card. These images are what one might call archetypal images. What is an archetype? This is a pattern that has been repeated so many times since the beginning of time in all cultures, in all places in the world, that it's actually become a memory deposit in our own subconscious. As the wonderful psychologist Carl Jung mentioned, "We are not born a tabula rasa. We are not born a clean slate. We are born with the archetypes of the collective unconscious, the consciousness we share with all mankind, sleeping already in our central nervous system." And these archetypes can be awakened in many ways. They are often awakened through art, which is why in some invocations in the Tarot, they refer to the cards as consecrated cards of art. Jung also mentioned that this image series of the Tarot was a pictorial representation of the archetypes of transformation. Every culture has them, and whether we were thinking of a lost tribe in the rainforest of the Amazon, or here, in New York City, in the fanciest penthouse party and jet set society, these same archetypes, attested for a time, place, culture, show up in every society. Every society has a fool, a warrior, a holy child, a wise man, a love goddess, a priestess, a trickster, a shadow figure. They come again and again, and they are in the Tarot, and we are going to learn how to awaken these, how to learn them, and how to become friends with them. Thank you for being with me. Bye for now.

It’s young because spirit is always young.  You’ll notice in the card that there is arising sign behind…a sun behind it representing that the sun is also spirit and notice how the fool’s staff is in direct alignment with one of the rays of the sun.  The sun is rising in the east because spirit is not at its zenith, as soon as something’s at its zenith, then it starts to go downward and so they show in this card a young person a rising sun; the way spirit is forever fresh. In Kabbalah they believe that the world has not only been created by the divine, by God, but it is constantly being created.  The fool is represented or is allied with the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet. There are 22 letters in the Hebrew alphabet and 22 major trumps and in Kabbalistic tarot, which is kind of what I’m talking about here, the meaning of the card draws so much of its meaning from the Hebrew letter and all of the associations that were given to that letter. This letter is Aleph, aleph is humble letter that actually has no real sound.  Its sound is the sound of breath and in the Kabbalistic law they say that when God was putting the alphabet together it was humble Aleph who didn't even come forward to request being the first letter that they gave this place of honor. And it sounds, “hhhhaaaa”, like the sound of breath being expelled. I say that because Aleph is associated with the divine life breath of Ruach alone because it is the fiery or scintillating intelligence.  Says the Kabbalah, “It is the fire, the breath that brings life into our body”. The fool, if you meditate on it, meaning all you have to do is put it in front of you and gaze at it for five minutes at a time, allow yourself to let your eyes roam over it and it will sort of rise up off the page and, in someway, it will enter you and stimulate your own unconscious.  It will bring to you a spiritual effervescence.  It raises your spirits, it encourages creativity and new cycles of life. The fool is an archetype of spirit and it is found in all cultures in different forms and like all archetypes, it has a higher and lower polarity.  In its highest polarity, this card will represent for you, many times in a reading, originality, spiritual motivation, leaping into a new phase of life.  On the lower polarity, well then it really could be foolishness, eccentricity, wild crazy schemes and really taking chances and leaping before you look.  This card, this fool is about to walk off the side of a cliff.  It means that…it shows us, spirit, descending gladly down into the world of manifestation. It comes down here but you have to be a little bit of a fool if you know life on planet earth to take an incarnation on this planet because this is not an easy place.  But meditating on a card like a fool to lift your spirits, bring spirit closer to you is the best antidote.

Here we've come to the mid point of the deck of the major arcana, of course.  Actually, the mid point are three cards:  atryptic, the wheel of fortune, justice and the hanged man.  So this is the beginning of the center, and the wheel is about to take a turn. This card is associated with the Hebrew letter Kaf, which means the hand of man in the act of grasping, but here the grasping hand represents comprehension, and the comprehension is of the cycles of life and the laws of karma and the laws of the universe.  When the wheel spins, if you're on the outer rim, you're gonna get thrown this way and that.  But when there's a spinning wheel and you're in the center, why, you can remain clear and stationary even as the wheel spins, and this card is a way of bringing us to our center and announcing new cycles of life and ways of perceiving it, controlling them, and entering them, because if we understand the laws of the universe and, in fact, its Hebrew letter Kaf, it was given the planet Jupiter who rules the laws of the universe as its astrological counterpart.  Jupiter is beneficent and this wheel would like to make a good turn for us. It's a complex card.  It's really more like a mondala than any of the other major arcana cards, there are so many component parts to it.  We see in the four corners the four animals that Ezekiel saw when he had his vision.  Actually, they're the four fixed signs of the zodiac.  The angel is Aquarius, the eagle stands for Scorpio, the bull is Taurus an the lion is Leo.  These are the four pillars of the year. Closer to the wheel we have the sphinx, which is Isis Hathor.  She is the one that stays stationary as the wheel turns, and who propounds the riddle of existence.  How well do you understand and use the laws of cycle, the laws of karma, and understand that what goes around comes around? The snake is the golden snake that comes down into manifestation.  For some it may be the idea of evil as in the snake in the garden of Eden, but for others its vibration.  Notice the vibrating look to his body.  And he comes into the Sea of Manifestation.  We have to deal with all kinds of things down here once we've manifested on planet Earth, and something has to bring it down to us and manifestation includes both good and evil. The rising figure that's red is Anubis, really a combination of Hermes and Anubis, the guider of souls and the symbol of the ever-evolving human consciousness.  It is called sometimes Hermanubis.  They contract the two names together, and this shows our potential for evolution. Look how many interesting things are going on inside the wheel.  The letters on the farthest rim of the wheel you can see that there are both Hebrew letters and the word tarot intermixed together.  We start at the top and if we go in a clockwise direction we can read T-A-R-O-T.  If we also start right after the T and go clockwise we can read the four letters of the name of God in Hebrew, Yud He Vav He. Tarot is a very interesting word and there are all kinds of theories as to what it actually means.  Many, of course, say it simply comes from the Italian word Tarotche, which was a game of cards that this deck may have evolved from or may have sheltered this knowledge until the world was ready for it, but in another way those letter, those four letters, they are an anagram for a very special sentence, and they make up four very interesting words.  First of all, depending on where we start we can see if we start with the R, we have Rota, R-O-T-A.  That's wheel.  Then, of course, we have taro, T-A-R-O, and we have the Latin, if we start with the O and go counterclockwise we have Orat, O-R-A-T, to speak, in Latin. We also have the Hebrew Tora, T-O-R-A, which is the law.  And lastly we start with the A and go counterclockwise, we have A-T-O-R, which is a form of the name Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of nature.  Put these together and we have "The wheel of the taro speaks of the laws of nature," or "the laws of Hathor." On the inner part of the wheel, we have alchemical symbols, mercury, sulfur, salt and the Aquarius symbol down at the bottom, those double waves, which is the al

How to Read the Hermit Card | Tarot Cards

Virgo is really virgin like a virgin forest meaning complete and whole and to herself.  This card, given the attribution of sexual intercourse by the zephyr yet Sayda to the letter Yod because this is the casting of the seed of creation.  The Virgo that we love is much more complex that people would know.  It is where our chemical transformation takes place because Virgo rules the intestines and in the intestines real physical transformation takes place when you’re going to become an addict. We find him alone, sometimes the card is drawn and you see it as dark night, but the hermit is never alone; he’s constantly accompanied by the divine.  The staff of the hermit is the magic wand of the magician.  Whenever you see a person drawn in the tarot in profile with a white beard, they’re showing you that this is a version of God. For the wise old man of meaning is always shown in profile; half towards us, half towards the spiritual reality. Sometimes this card is the inner teacher and it will show up in your dreams.   I find that the hermit shows up in dreams as a wise old man or a wise old woman more frequently than any other archetype.  Very available and you caninvoke this when you go to sleep.  It was said in the Greek gospels, in the Gnostic gospels that the original idea of solitary meant to be unified.  In fact, the Christ said, “I, Jesus, say this, that when a person finds themselves solitary they will be filled with light but if they are divided, they will be filled with darkness”. ‘ When this card comes in your reading on its upper polarity it has to do with union, it has to do with being taken care of and the presence of the inner teacher.   It’s wise, it has foresight, this provision because Virgo takes care of the world and feeds the world, she rules the time of the harvest. When this card is on its lower polarity, you may find yourself divided from your own inner nature, true solitary, feeling isolation.  Or instead of the wonderful maturity that this card brings when it is used in its highest sense, you may find someone with a Peter Pan Complex who refuses to grow up.  Immaturity, refusing to take any provisions for the future and just kind of like the ant and the grasshopper.  The grasshopper just living for today and not thinking about what may come tomorrow.

This segment is about a very important card reading that everyone can easily learn to do and that is a vast importance to anyone's personal process. It's the three card cluster or the three card reading. It's based on the three figures on the lovers card which as you might remember, the lovers is ruled by Gemini which indicates that this is not only a card of love but it is a mandala of consciousness. The man on the right represents the self conscious mind. That's our every day thinking mind. It's the one that gathers information, that interprets our experience and the one you're most familiar with that's chattering all day long. The woman on the left. She represents the subconscious. She's our feeling nature, our emotional nature. The subconscious is everything we have deep inside us in memory, in habit, and what we know intuitively. The angel above them both is the  super conscious mind and this will be the highest card in the reading. It's who you think you are. As often times who you think you are is very much what you think God is or what you think the define is and nothing influences our experience in this world like our own conception of our self. You know how some people go around saying "I'm unlovable, nobody likes me" and sure enough, nobody likes them. But the people go around can say "I am so lovable. I have friends wherever I go. I can always make friends" and sure enough, they do. Or how distinctive  Henry Ford said it when he said "whether you think you can, whether you think you can't, you're right" By thinking about our self is everything. The first card down of the three is always the center one, always the angel. Why? Because we're also following the position of the pattern of the top three seferat on the tree of life. Kehter, hakma, and benaugh. The divine, the great father, and the great mother. The super conscious mind, the self conscious mind, and the sub conscious mind and together the three are a portrait of you. Before we started this layout because time is very short in these segments. I asked a friend of mine. A young man who lives nearby and I asked him to do a mix these cards and we haven't seen them yet. He asked a question that these cards loves most and what this particular reading loves to answer most, which is, tell me what you think I ought to know about myself right now. Because to understand your claim of identity and how your self conscious mind sees it and what's going on in the sub conscious mind is of utmost importance.   We did the, in order to shuffle these and obtain these, we moved the card round and round the table. I had to make them into a pack. Shuffle them for a time. He was quite good at it but you know you can shuffle any way you like and then he cut the cards, once in half and I took the bottom of the cut and dealt off the top of it. Card number one, card number two, card number three. Let's see what he's got. When you turn them over, remember, always turn them over from the side. So, that you can have them exactly the way the cards put them down. Oh, two upright and a star. We've got two cards that are Earth. We've got one card that is Air. Air and Earth have a little chaffing. Just like Fire and Water have a little chaffing, but more importantly, the card in the center is upright. He is thinking about work. He is thinking about change. Look at him. He's identifying with the fact that he is masterful because the three of pentacles, Lord of material works is upright and he's thinking of change. We read about those pages or look at our segments on pages. They are great change cards. This man is entering a new phase of life but down in the subconscious, the star, such an important meditation card, is reversed. Upright cards are evolutionary and filled with faith and going forward. Reverse cards have fear in them and the energy is blocked. Maybe he is blocked in mediation. Maybe he hasn't really developed the quest in himself because the stars about the quest. Maybe he needs to follow his inner star. He knows that change is coming. He feels that he is getting masterful in his work and he's called to do something. But the star reversed. Maybe he is being a little wishy washy about it. Maybe he's seeking his goals or his d

I'm Ellen Goldberg and I welcome you to this taro moment from the school or oracles. This segment is on an introduction tot he minor arcana. As I've mentioned, the taro is divided into two basic groups. The 22 groups of the major arcana which portray the major archetypes of the laws of the universe and personalities and spiritual forces and the minor arcana. And that's a greater group, 56 cards. 56 cards subdivided into 4 suits, the wands, the cups, the swords, and the pentacles and we'll be doing a segment particularly on the 4 suits. So, take a look for that one. But the minor arcana, sometimes people think that it is lesser than the major arcana just because it has the prefix or the title "minor." To me, that's like saying the subconscious is lesser than the conscious mind just because it has the beginning of "sub." It's not true. The minor arcana are also archetypes. They're archetypal situations and people. Each of the 4 suits of the minor arcana has 14 cards in it. 10 of it you know from regular playing cards, they're the ace through 10's. We've seen them and played with them through all of our lives. We even know the other group, but maybe not all of them. Each suit not only has an ace through 10, often called the pip cards, but there are 4 court cards, people. There's pages, there are queens, there are kings, and there are knights on horseback. I even think I found a, oh, here's a knight, knight of cups. These people are the people that you will meet in your life and they will have personalities that you will recognize. The minor arcana, we might say, is a great panorama of life because they represent events. There will be pictures on cards, which is one of the reason why I love the "Ride Awake" cards so much because every card has a picture and a title that is descriptive of the card. The work that we're going to do with the minor comes really from the order of the Golden Dawn. As we make this video I'm approaching my 70th year and I started to study the cards when I was 29. And somewhere in my 30's I spent 4 years at a Kabbalistic Mystery School based on taro and it was also based on the work of the order of the Golden Dawn which is how I've come to have the association that I do with the cards. every card in the minor arcana not only has a title which we call a lord name, it's called a lord name and not just a name to show that it is a big constellation of energy. But it also has an astrological attribution. A planet, working within a sign. We don't have time for the more complex segment it would take to show how they got their attributions but there is rhyme and reason to it, it's not arbitrary at all. The minor arcana, in my estimation, are the major arcana brought down to earth. They are a panorama of life and all the people and situations that you're going to encounter in your life's journey. Thank you for being with me. Bye for now.

In this segment we're going to take a brief overview of the "Fours" of each of the suits of the Minor Arcana. The Fours belong to the Sophitia on the Tree of Life called "Chesed", and Chesed means "Mercy". It's the first Sophitia to receive the energy after it leaves the top Supernal Triangle, or the Godhead, and so this is when the tree bursts into color. Chesed's Mercy, it's ruled by Jupiter so it's incredibly beneficent. Gives without regard to the merit or the deservingness of the recipient. It just gives gratuitously in the same way that the world, the Kabbalah say, was given and is constantly created gratuitously as a gift from the Divine. The name of the number four is "Order". This is not Kabbalistic, these are things that are more Pythagorean. But, we know the number four. Four squares are very common idiom in English for law and order, being a really straight and solid person, and certainly a square cube is a very solid item. The name of the number four is "Order", and order is something that every four is going to show us. Something solid about the suit, or at least how to achieve that solidness. The "Four of Wands" is called the lord of perfected work. Something has been accomplished here and you see that people are celebrating. They're rushing out, having a wonderful time and the whole background shows that it is infused with spirit. There is a ritual going on too. So sometimes this card is associated with a wedding, or marriage, but certainly it is completion. Perfected work. Venus in Aries, and Venus is the Empress and Aries is the Emperor, and they are a wedded pair. But it also lets us know that you cannot perfect your work, or complete your work without love, tact, and gentleness. When this card is on the higher polarity it is completion, rest after labor, celebration of a higher truth in form (which is what a ritual is), and tangible achievements. Turn this car around and you notice that the lovely bower becomes a hurdle. So it's filled with obstacles. It's a card of delays, obstacles, things that don't go very well, self-centeredness, and using egotistic self-centered mean to accomplish what you want. "The Four of Cups", the lord of blended pleasure. Associated with the moon and Cancer. Emotions are the hardest things to keep orderly, and so this card is really rather more of advice than a picture of something that is actually ordered and stable already. You see a person sitting, gazing discontentedly at three cups on the ground. And yet, if he would only turn his eyes upwards, he would see that a hand (very much like the hand in the "Ace of Cups"), is offering the "Cup of Grace". There is so much yearning here. The moon is at home in Cancer, and it feels so much. Yearns for so much. Yearning, when it's turned towards earthly pursuits, earthly things, to have more money, a better body, the best relationship, whatever it is, is not necessarily going to bring you contentment. But yearning, when it's turned towards spirit, when it's turned towards your own ascension on the tree, ascension in your spiritual practice, whatever that practice may be, that then becomes the fuel that takes you upwards. Turn your eyes in a different direction. On the higher polarity this card is that there is a spiritual blessing close at hand. Look for it, don't miss it. On a lower polarity someone has missed the point, and as a result they feel disappointed, numb, bored. "The Four of Swords", lord of rest after strife. Jupiter in Libra. Jupiter, good fortune, and Libra balance. What a lovely thing for this suit that deals with the mind. Here we see a person in repose. Many people think that it maybe it is a tomb, but it really is not. It's a person in deep, spiritual repose, and it's the repose of the entire mind. Sometimes this card is called not just rest from strife, but rest in and through strife. If you notice, in the upper corner there's a stained glass window, and if you look carefully at it, you'll see that it is Christ giving someone a blessing. These pictures that you see in stained glass windows in the cards always have meanings. They always tell us something about the card. This card is a blessing. In the higher p

How to Read the Magician Card | Tarot Cards

I'm Ellen Goldberg and I welcome you to this Taro Moment with the School of Oracles. In this segment, we can learn a little bit about the magician. The magician is the first card of the number series. We've already talked about the full which is the zero and as you know, the zero is everywhere. But the number one who's name in numbers is initiation is the first. And of course, this is a very important position so that the person who is on this card is very important character in our own taro journey. This is Mercury, Hermes, the three times great. Hermes Tres Majestis, he who is the one that the entire Hermetic tradition is named for, he who was the initiator, priest, king, and bringer of good unto each and often called also the Scribe of Saturn and giver of each of its 48 books of knowledge including astronomy, astrology, medicine, architecture, mathematics, medicine, you name it. It was said to have come through Hermes-Mercury Tres Majestis. The Hebrew letter that goes with this particular card is called Bet, and Bet means house and it refers back to the time in each of when building was a sacred art practiced by the priest under the jurisdiction of the priest. But also, our home, our body, this is the place we operate from. His intelligence is called the transparent intelligence or I should really make that clear, that the intelligence of Bet, given to it by the oldest book of the Coballa, the Zephyr gets it, uh, the Book of Formation. It gave the each of the letters, and as you know each of the letters and forms so much what the nature or kind of card would mean and that the power that it carries, it gave to Bet, the very appropriate title of the transparent intelligence. He is in an octipal position, a Mudra, with one arm raised and one are holding a magic wand, but the real magic wand is the finger that he points downwards because he's transparent and that energy comes right through him. He is bringing the energy from above to below. The primary Hermetic action of this tradition is as above, so below. We are a microcasm of the macrocasm and when we unite the macrocasm with the microcasm that is ourself, why that's the completion of the great work of self realization. You'll notice that the above the magician there are roses, and below him is he points with that finger of Jupiter, there are both roses and lilies. And this indicate symbolically in the taro that he has brought so much marvelous energy through him that he brings down not only the roses but creates something even richer and more beautiful. On the table before him, you'll see the symbols of the four suits of the taro, there's a wand, a cup, a sword and a pentacle and he is ready to work. The table is sometimes referred to as the Field of Attention. And one of the greatest lessons that we can learn by meditating on this card is that of concentration. In fact meditating on this card will help your power of choice and power of concentration. Tom Berg says about the magician, "He who finds the silence in the power of concentration without effort is never alone." The forces from heaven, the forces from on high are there supporting him from then on. And that is true about this card, this develops concentration without effort. The magician is totally focused on what he was doing but he's relaxed. When this card comes in it's upper polarity, it has to do with the power of concentration with making good, skillful choices with directing energy from above to below. When it's in its lower polarity, hmm, then the tricks that's part of Mercury comes to the forward. In fact, this card when it's given the rulership is ruled by the planet Mercury. Yes, on the lower polarity is plenty tricky. It also could be scattered forces or confusion, or the inability to make a choice. Enjoy it, take the pose, feel what it's like to pull energy down. Use this card to develop your own skill. He's our guide through the rest of the whole journey.

This segment is about the 4 suits of the minor arcana. The wands, the cups, the swords, and the pentacles. Each of these suits have very particular concerns that cover the vast array of the events and energies of life. The suit of wands, as you can see form the picture, is a masculine suit. It's ruled by fire and it takes a great deal of its meaning from the element of fire. Fire is hot, we think of fire when we talk of passion and wands are passionate. Everything they do is filled with vigor. Wands are associated with the season of spring when life is coming alive. They represent areas of life like commerce, change, vitality, your own enterprise and the beginnings of things just like spring is a new beginning for each of us. When there are many wands in a reading because you'll do reading and sometimes you'll see that there is a preponderance a particular suit or element. Because as you know, the major arcana, each card is an element as well. If you find a lot of fire or many wands in a suit, in a reading, perhaps something is commencing. perhaps a lot of energy is going on. Perhaps you are commencing something new and there is a commerce being made and the idea of the business of it. Everything that wands do has a tremendous vitality to it. In a word we can say that wands are the life-giving force of the universe.

How to Read the Death Card | Tarot Cards

I'm Ellen Goldberg, and I welcome you to this tarot moment from the School of. In this segment, we're gonna take a look at the death card. Sometimes people get frightened when they get this card, but they shouldn't. It's far less about physical death than it is about the kind of death that is necessary in order to make a great transformation. Because there is now transformation without letting go of something, and that's a kind of a death. The Hebrew letter associated with this card is nun, n-u-n. And nun means fish, as a noun. But as a verb, it means to sprout and to grow. So in all truth, this card could equally be called life as well as death. There is an intimation here that there is life after death, a new card, life because, in the card, if you look on the bright side, you see the sun rising. Because cards have a North, a South, and East and a West. And always, what you see as the card faces you, on the right, is the East, just like the full sun is rising in the East. We see the sun rising, indicating two, a new life in between two towers. Those towers are called. They are the towers sacred to that used to appear as markers of the boundaries of the known, and a crossroads in the ancient world. We see them here in front of the son to show we are going beyond the boundaries of the known. The river that you see in the card represents the union of change and eternity. There's a Pharaoh's boat on the river. Death here is ruled by the sign of Scorpio. No surprise. It's on a white horse that represents spirit. And we see every sort of person he is coming to. There is an emperor or a King already lying on the ground in this step. We see a Pope greeting him. Perhaps he has prepared himself for death. But there is also a young girl and a small boy. The little child greets death, openly, easily. And if you have ever had the misfortune to watch a child die, perhaps of some early illness. You see how easily they accept their fate. Often times, he's also the skeleton. It's our most precious and secret treasure. It is the most eternal part of us, and it's androgynous. Oh, yes. Experts know which hips are a little bigger and which are a little smaller, but basically, the skeleton is our most enduring part and our own secret treasure. Did you know that Shamans, the world over in training as a part of initiation, are told to experience death as a symbolic part of initiation. Sometimes they have to see their own skeleton, even by sometime scraping the skin down to the bone, because it's hidden from us, this enduring part. The would be just a massive of a lump of tissue. This holds us up. When you see the death card in your reading, know that on it's upper polarity, it's not talking about death. It's talking about change, transformation, the movement from one state of being to the next. And there's always a process in transformation, disintegration, growth and progress. Then, of course when it reaches it's zenith, in whatever it is, it starts it's decline, and the cycle starts again. This cycle has been repeated since time and memorial. On the lower polarity, yes, it sometimes can mean death. But usually, it means involuntary change, change that you have not invoked, that's difficult, or a living death. Boredom. Fear of death poisons us, and it's worse than death itself. And there is a kind of stunting of life that comes by people who fear death so, that their afraid to live. To make friends with death is to be able to live more fully. Will the tarot talk about death? Well, occasionally, it absolutely will. But it won't just give you the death card alone, say reversed or. This is a Scorpio-ruled card, and that's a water sign. If there is fire cards on either side, it's gonna bring out the worst of it. Maybe even a living, mental death, like schizophrenia. But if it's to be physical death, I have found that it will bring together two or three cards that also talk about death. The tarot knows how to do this and all in the same readings. Sometimes it will just line them up. Some of those cards might surprise you. We can assume, death is. But also, the Ace of swords reversed when combined with death, the to of swords combined with death, and even the sun reversed, because the sun is so alive on it's upper polarity, that it's lower polarity goes very low. Want to read Tarot with confidence? Head over to http://www.biddytarot.com/blog/ where the conversation continues at Biddy Tarot. Many of us learn to read Tarot by studying with the best Tarot teachers, reading as many Tarot books as possible, and absorbing as much information about the Tarot as your brain can possibly store! But what about those people who learn to read Tarot more intuitively? What if you are able to bypass the Tarot books and traditional meanings of the cards? Can you still be a talented Tarot reader if you learn this way? Today's Ask Brigit question is from Kathy, from Kentucky, USA. She writes: "I have always read tarot intuitively. Oddly enough, my intuition often matches the traditional meaning of the cards but not always. Do you feel it is necessary to be grounded in the traditional meanings to be a professional tarot reader?" Watch this video to find out my answer. Loved this video? This is stage one.  Stage one is called "Consciousness of bondage," because if you don't know you're in prison, how are you ever gonna get out?  It's the aching discontent we feel and the need and yearning we need for change that is the beginning of our ascent into a higher state of being.   This card is ruled by the sign of Capricorn, and so there is something, the goat, of course, and we see him as a goat-headed god here in this card.  He has a very curious kind of hand.  Let's see if I can make it.  A hand gesture, it is not from some other planet or TV show.  It's an old mudra, and it means, "what you see is all there is."  And it's just that, taking everything at face value, which is something that helps us to really feel less than: less inspired, more depressed, because there is a great world beyond simply the material, but the devil would like you to believe this is it.  You'll notice that he sits on a half cube rather than a whole cube, and that means he's best on half knowledge rather than whole knowledge.  His hebrew letter, "ayin," means "eye," and it is our most important sense tool, but through it, we see appearances only.  Notice how the woman in the, "two of swords," has a blindfold when she goes in for inner peace, where many of the characters that we meet, like the hermit, have his eyes closed to show that they're looking with interior vision.  We cannot rely just on appearances.  But the devil is kind of a joke the way he's drawn, with kind of chicken feet and a furry bottom.  And, his light, his torch, rather than being held aloft, is turned downwards, igniting and inflaming the passions of the man, as in the lover's card, and this might be called almost a reverse image of the lover's card 'cause the lover's card is number six, and this is card number fifteen. Of course, right away we see it in roman numerals, but if you added one and five they equal six and it refers back to the lovers.  And here the devil is in the same place as the angel, and the man and woman are in their respective places as well, but here they are beastialized.  They have horns, they have tails, each of a different type.  The man's passions are being inflamed, and he looks at the female.   The female in this card is not looking for advice from the heavenly angel as she does in the lovers, but whatever suggestion the self-conscious mind, represented by the man, is giving to her is going to bear fruit, and that is why she has a tail that looks like a kind of a lovely bunch of grapes or fruit, because the sub-conscious brings us whatever we really truly believe and put into it.  This card is a necessary card.  If you have to confront it and feel a little frightened to meet the dweller, to look at your own shadow, then bring the wonderful angel that you have met in the previous card from temperance to stand at your side with you, you don't have to do this alone.  In a fine book, I don't know if it's still in print, called "The Rabbi's Tarot," it was said that in the long history of mankind, there has been no one who has found their way to god without first having gone to the devil to learn the path there.  When this comes on a higher polarity, its frustration as a spur to action, it's hard work and endurance, things that we get from Capricorn.  It's understanding the limitations are not real.  Look at the chains around those peoples' necks, they're so loose, they could lift them up easily if they wanted to.  Their bondage is illusionary.  On the lower polarity, you're caught in your personal hell.  You know when Dante went down to the inferno, down to the very lowest rung, and he finally meets the devil, is he jumping up and down on hot coals? No, he's frozen in ice, all he sees is him from the neck or shoulders up, and eve

How to Read the Aces | Tarot Cards

In this segment, we’re gonna take a brief look at the four aces. The four aces are the leading card of each of the four suits and they embody the element in their purest form. In fact, their name is always the root of the element of whichever suit. And that root has its being miss in heaven. The aces are very powerful cards. They’re the most powerful cards in the Minor Arcana. When you get an ace in the reading, you know that something very big is happening. A strong force is present and you take it seriously. Each of these is very close the meaning of itself and we’ve done segments on the four elements so it might be fun to go and refer to them also to refer to them as the Tree of Life because we talked about how each of the groups of cards, the twos, the threes, and of course the aces belong to the corresponding Sephira on the Tree of Life.  The aces belong to the very top of the Tree of Life, the Kether. And therefore, it is spirit incarnate or actually not incarnate yet, but spirit on its way to be incarnate. The Ace of Wands you see is a masculine card.Notice how the Wand is very valiant looking. It’s so alive. The little green leaves show the onrushing of spring. They shape very much like yards which is a seed, the building block of the entire Hebrew alphabet. There’s power here, and vitality, and passion. When the Ace of Wands comes in the reading and it’s well dignified know that there could not be any better card to receive at the commencement of an enterprise because there is so much of the onrushing force of life here. There’s potency, there’s energy. When it’s in a more negative mode, or ill-dignified, lower polarity then it’s energy that is impudent or too much energy, fury, and calamity. Be aware negative Ace of Wands can have so much energy all blocked up that it can be very damaging. The Ace of Cups is feminine and all the aces are gonna alternate masculine, feminine, masculine, and feminine, the Ace of Cups because cups refer to emotions, psychic development, feelings, intuition, creativity, and love. We see what a loving card it is as the dove who is sacred to Venus descends to the cup of receptivity, ad fills the cup so, so that it runs over. When you get the Ace of Cups in the reading on the higher polarity, it’s love, yearning, psychic development, caring, inspiration. On the lower polarity it could be psychic drain or you going down the drain emotionally, or the creativity all blocked up for someone who is totally self-absorbed. The Ace of Swords is one of the most important parts in the deck because swords are the change suit, and the ace being the most powerful of the swords. This is the card of ultimate change. Change is coming, change in your process. This is the sword of truth and it represents the middle pillar on the Tree of Life. How do we know that? Because we see the top, the Crown which is Kether. We see somewhere in the middle the six floating Yods which represents the sixth sephira, Tipareth, the Sun which is the direct reflection of Kether. Each of the hand of aces which is the hand of God will often see it appear like this in all the alchemical and spiritual manuscripts. And each hand is slightly different. You can kind of see the personality that it give to the element. That hand on the Ace of Swords is ready for action. This is the sword of spiritual brightness,is a sword of truth. When the Ace of Swords shows up in the reading, know that there’s going to be a lot of change in your own personal process, or even more importantly, change in your thoughts about yourself, your identity. The “I am…”you fill in the blank is one of the things that determines our entire experience of life. This card will show you that there is an enormous powerful force at work could be for good or could be for evil or could be for evil because the greater the light, the greater the shadow. And when this card is in its lower polarity, there is untruth. There is the invoking of force, uh, for, well, purposes that are just no good. There’s a lot of power here. When it’s upright, think of the brightest, finest, truthful things in the world, then when it’s reversed there’s lies and deceit and change in blocked. I'm Ellen Goldberg and welcome to a taro moment from the School of Oracles. This segment is an introduction to the suit of cups, one of the 4 suits of the minor arcana. The cups are the receptive suits. They're feminine and as you see the picture of the cup, the holy spirit represented by the dove is holding a little wafer which represents earth and coming into the cup of receptivity and the cup runneth over. In each of these aces, but we'll have a separate segment on the aces, it's the hand of God holding the representation of the element of the suit. Cups are associated with the season of summer and with the direction west. We see that there are little "yuds," the building blocks of the Hebrew alphabet floating in the air. There are 26 of them in this card in the Ride Awake because that is the number that the name of God in Hebrew add up to. Cups are pleasure-loving and because they're receptive, they receive not only impressions and feelings form the atmosphere but they are the psychic suit. This is the suit that deals with emotions, psychic activities and really creativity because really we receive creativity oftentimes from a source beyond ourselves. We know that in "inspiration," meaning spirit flowing into us and then it flows out of us. That is why the cup runs over in this card so that we share what we have with the world. When you find that you have done the layout for yourself or reading and there are many cups, more than any other suit then perhaps there is a special emphasis on emotional life, psychic development, creative life. Pay attention to these cups. These mean so much to us. Thank you for being with me and bye for now.
