wow you really know how to choose a good hotel for a cheap price because most of the hotels in oman are 1000 dollar per night like 3-4 stars hotels

Nice video, but that burger is so so expensive and does not show the real prices in Oman . Believe me you can have the best burger well done for about 6$ in other restaurant in Muscat and this is the normal price. In a city like Nizwa you can have a well done burger for 3$ only, which is much cheaper than Muscat.
Khalid Sulimani (3 months ago)
you are welcome Gabriel,

Good to know, thanks.

0:42 its Persian gulf
Gabriel Traveler (3 months ago)
If you check google maps when you're in Oman, it will say it's the Arabian Gulf. And if you call it the Persian Gulf in a video then you'll get loads of comments complaining that it's the Arabian Gulf, not the Persian Gulf.
OMAR (3 months ago)
Lol I love oman to bits and its not all expensive and gloomy. Muscat the capital city has the most beautiful sceneries and the Sultan palace, Museums, Markets etc.
Andrea Jokmanovic (3 months ago)
Worst video ever, after twelve minutes you showed us prices for taxi and hotel.
Gabriel Traveler (3 months ago)
Maybe this will help: At 1:04 I said the price of the hotel room. At 2:54 I said the price of the bus to Oman. At 3:34 I mentioned the price of a shared taxi. At 4:19 I said the price of the breakfast buffet. At 5:00 I showed the prices of lots of different items on the hotel menu. At 6:40 I said the price of my meal at a different restaurant in the city. At 9:14 I said the price of a private taxi. At 10:44 I said the price of another bus trip. At 12:38 I said the price of beer. At 13:54 I showed the price of my dinner. At 15:07 I showed the prices of various things in a local market.

i am in Oman, when you take a taxi from AL Falaj hotel will only cost 1.5 riyal if you bargain and 2 riyal if not.Your hotel is very near the Mwasalat bus station, you can even walk about 2 kilometers going there. If you are going to Niswa there is indeed a bus on that station the MWASALAT bus or GULF transport (just behind the mosque there)that you can hop on,buy a ticket and tell them to drop you in Nizwa, it takes about more that 2 hours i think because the busses will keep stopping at bus stations in Seeb Burj Al Sahwa. And if ever you want to visit NIZWA fort and market, i would suggest that you better take a taxi from BURJ AL SAHWA in Seeb because taxi will go direct to NIZWA fort unlike the bus that will stop only at bus station in Nizwa which is far from the fort.Taking mwasalat bus from Ruwi to Burj Al Sahwa in seeb will cost you 300-500 baiza only, you just have to walk underground to cross the road going to that bus station in Burj Al Sahwa.Talking about alcohol, you can find it in hotels or bars, few expats also granted with liqour licences for personal consumption

I have lived in Oman for 5 years and whilst hotel food seems expensive there are hundreds of wonderful local restaurants where food is really cheap.
Gabriel Traveler (3 months ago)
Cool, good to know.

Too expensive
Nao Bolliger (3 months ago)
Al Faraj Hotel (l stayed in June) to Fish Market should not cost you more than 500 Baisa, and to Ruwi Bus Station should not cost more than 100 Baisa... lt's a local price - l'm an alone woman traveller but l know how to negociate😎 l know the "white/blue" taxi at the hotel has meter which is made out of iphone (LOL) and when l took one the driver tried to charge me 5 Rial to mutrah souq - l complained sure but l still had to pay 2 Rial! The official state taxi is white/orange and is cheaper than white/blue one at the hotels. for your info😊😎 l love Oman❤

Salim Al Ruqaishi (7 months ago)
Hello all, I am Omani citizen. After watching this video for Mr. Gabriel , I was able to note that he had stayed in Ruwi area which non of many Omanis are living there and there is nothing much to do in Ruwi. Plus, I think it was during Friday morning where it is consider a day off in the Sultanate. Every one is resting. If he could planned for staying in Shatti Al Qurum where the beauty of muscat speaks, he would enjoy it much rather than ruwi. Regarding the transportation, I admit it it is a bit expensive but he could burning more (2 Rials for a short trip from hotel to the bus station is freaking expensive I would not think of riding with him). It should be around 400 to 500 Baisa or even less. Regarding food, it is not expensive at all. If you decide to eat in a hotel it will be definitely expensive. Oman its a beautiful country where you can find many tourist attractions such traditional markets, beaches, mountains, valleys, greeneries, sand dunes, etc.. Oman welcomes everyone. Our Country is yours to enjoy. Thanks.

I have lived in Muscat for 7 years and l still love the place. The govt has deliberately spread the population there and hence you will not find crowds on roads (in fact nil). If you want to see crowds then go to shopping centers like Ruwi, Muttrah souk, qurum etc..

unless something goes wrong, I'm going to be an intern in oman for 2 months. do you think is it possible to live there w/o a car?
Gabriel Traveler (8 months ago)
Muscat is ridiculously spread out. Personally, I wouldn't want to live there without a vehicle of my own to get around. I guess it would depend on where you were living versus where your work and friends are. If they aren't right nearby then you would end up spending a lot on taxis or a lot of time waiting on buses.
fightermafia (8 months ago)
in muscat yes but it is not clear now where exactly I would stay but pretty sure, it won't be in city centre

Yes, definitely. I only took the bus to Nizwa and back. But keep in mind it was all men on the buses. Still safe but could feel a bit strange. I'm not sure how else to get around unless you rented a car or paid for a tour.
Fatima Elkebir (9 months ago)
Thank you gabriel. Is public transport also safe ?
Gabriel Traveler (9 months ago)
Yes, Oman is a super safe country, probably one of the safest countries in the world. The people are incredibly friendly and there shouldn't be any problems traveling as a woman there.

For People saying that Muscat is boring and no one is there ,thats because it is a residential Area . Residential areas are like that in Muscat .... If you go to the main city like shatti al qurum which is the beach area and there are many good hotels which are expensive . He just showed a residential area he didn't showed the main city and all ...... Those areas are very very busy even at the night especially the beach area . Residential areas are very peaceful because people ofcourse live there 😁🇴🇲 . I used to live In Oman and now i shifted in the UAE thats why i know .........

The new 2018 cost of living index is out from the Numbeo. https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/rankings.jsp Good way to select countries that are in the middle or lower on the list and not at the top for some less expensive traveling☺
Global Adventurer (9 months ago)
Gabriel Traveler Yes. And it's designed mainly for people who intend to relocate and "live" in a city oppose to staying in hotels, which would of course be somewhat more expensive. But, everything else listed would be the same for travelers and residents.
Gabriel Traveler (9 months ago)
Quite a comprehensive list! Interesting stuff.

Which camera are you using? With the GoPro then you will want to adjust it to the Linear setting. I can't say for other cameras exactly but just go with the narrowest angle. The GoPro 5 has a Narrow setting but that's too close up, don't use that one for talking to the camera.

Can you explain why there are no people bustling about in Oman? It's an odd thing to see. So desolate. Thanks a lot, Gabriel for your travel videos.
Mahmood Al hinai (6 months ago)
It’s probably a weekend!! Most people in Who live in Muscat go back to their hometowns during the weekends
Steve Cherches (9 months ago)
Gabriel Traveler there’s more going on in Mutrah and also Shati Al Qurum. Also things to get more lively at night, since it’s so hot out during the day. The best things in Oman are outdoors activities, so take road trips to the desert, beaches, and canyons. Camp anywhere. Hike and swim in Wadi Shaab. Camp in the dessert. Explore the canyons beyond Nizwa. Have fun. It’s an amazing place.
Gabriel Traveler (10 months ago)
Good question, but I'm still asking the question myself. It's the case everywhere I've seen, very empty towns. I guess they just don't have a high population. Not a bad thing I suppose, keeps things more quiet and peaceful.
K T (10 months ago)
Hi Gabriel I live in Muscat Oman. It is good to see that you are finally here. I watch your videos online. Please visit Alhoota caves outside Nizwa. It costs about 6 Rials to get inside. Also visit the village of Misfat Al Abriyyin about 1 hour out of Nizwa. For Arabic food please go to Kargeen restaurant in Muscat Madinat Qaboos area. You can also visit Jebel Shams near Nizwa. You will need to go on 4x4. It is called grand Canyon of Oman. Have fun and contact me if any question. :-)
Gabriel Traveler (10 months ago)
Today I went to Alhoota caves, Misfat Al Abriyyin, Jebel Shams and more. Went to a great Omani restaurant in Nizwa. This area is really amazing, videos coming soon.

Do people in Oman have social anxiety? It seems empty almost everywhere I see. And Muscat being the capital I would have thought it be very busy and full of people.

It is extremely HOT. Mostly at night is when people go out 😊
S.z.F ! (9 months ago)
lol it depends on wt time u go out.
Steve Cherches (9 months ago)
angel m. It all depends on where you go. It actually gets busy later at night, partly because it’s usually very hot there. The best part of Oman is traveling outdoors to beaches, desert, and canyons... all within a few hours (sometimes minutes) from Muscat.
